If you’ve switched from Mounjaro to Wegovy, how’s it going?

I’m on my first week of Wegovy having been on Mounjaro for most of this year. I was on 12.5 Mounjaro dose and started Wegovy at 1.7.

It’s not terrible but it’s not going great. No issues with side effects at all, which is a relief, but so far I have definitely wanted more food. I’d be surprised if I don’t gain this week. Maybe it’ll be improved when I go up to the 2.4 dose.

How have others found the switch?

Not good, my belly is rumbling constantly my food noise is back with a vengence. It's been hard to not eat everything. It does make me full quick but it does not stop me thinking of food all the time. I'm also more constipated on Wegovy than I ever was on MJ. I have regrets

BigTightropeWalker · 01/10/2025 09:33

It’s such bloody pain isn’t it @SianyGrant! If only the price hike hadn’t happened 😔 I’m feeling quite sad that I might not achieve what I thought I would initially.

I’m beginning to wonder about committing to the extra cost of Mounjaro for a limited time - maybe 3 more months - and really go for it! And then switch to Wegovy. It’s so so so frustrating.

I am almost at my target weight which is so frustating too. I have just under a stone. Wish I had stuck to Mounjaro. I may just get the mounjaro next month if this doesn't work. I have only been on it a week so maybe it will improve? It's just the food noise coming back, I know it will eventually come back when i'm off it but I just wasn't expecting it so I have to now work harder on eating well and within calories which was never an issue on MJ. Wish I could be on it forever :(

Theoturkeyflieseast · 01/10/2025 13:02

I'm about to switch in 3 weeks ,pen has arrived
I'm going straight on to the highest dose ,as I'm currently on the top dose of mj .
Swapping mainly for price ,but also weight loss on mj is now very very slow ..so I'm thinking a change may help

I’m not as close to target sadly. I’m nearly at overweight as opposed to obese! I still have a fair way to go. I’ve been a very slow loser but I’ve been okay with that. It’s just really gutting. I’m only in the first week of Wegovy though - started on Friday. But it doesn’t really make sense to me that it would become more effective, but fingers crossed.

@Theoturkeyflieseastgood luck - I hope you find it better than I do!

I'm going to reserve judgement untill I've done a month on it .
If I'm eating more ,I will look round for a supplier to go back on mj ..
I have a lot of times felt mj wasn't working,or it had slowed down ..but I think generally I'm quite an impatient person, and sometimes my expectations of mj have been to high
I'm hopeful it's similar to mj ,so I can save some pennies

Yes I think I might be being too hasty, it’s been 5 days. It makes sense to give it longer. I might go up to the max dose though!

Some days / times ,I found I was hungrier, needed more food ..and I'd start thinking mj wasn't working..but it balances itself out as I eat less the days after the next injection...I have to keep reminding myself it's a marathon not a sprint

I switched almost 4 weeks ago and I am finding it better. I was taking 5mg mounjaro and I’m on .5mg wegovy. I am still losing and have appetite suppression but I no longer have the indigestion issues I had with mounjaro. Moving up a dose for my next order.

That’s brilliant @Wiseowltaylor! Did you find it better straight away?

@BigTightropeWalker maybe about a week later. I was really worried about switching because the weight loss on mounjaro was great, but I always suffered with acid reflux and bowel issues. Since I’ve swapped to wegovy I’m still losing at the same pace but no longer have these issues.

That’s really encouraging to hear - thanks!

I switched a month ago (just finished my first pen). No side effects (i.e. I'm feeling fine) but I'm definitely a bit hungrier than I was on MJ. I went from 7.5mg of Mounjaro to 1mg of Wegovy. I was due to switch to 10mg of Mounjaro though and so for my next pen, I'm going to ask for a higher dose.

Hi @meatyryvitayes I definitely feel a little hungrier, but it’s only been a week for me so far. I’m slightly returning to that thing where after dinner in the evening I start to think about what snacks there might be in the house 😕

Well I’ve been on Wegovy now for around a month and I haven’t lost any weight and in fact I’ve gained 2lbs! I’m absolutely bloody gutted. Mounjaro was so much better for me. I woke up so hungry this morning. My sugar cravings are back - not as badly as before starting WLIs but they’re definitely back.

I think I could maintain on this if I put my mind to it, but I doubt I would lose much more and I’m still obese so wanted to love a fair bit more.

I feel really fed up ☹️

I'm sorry to hear this .it must be very frustrating for you
I have a wegovy in my fridge unopened..it has a 2 year date on it
So I've decided I'm not going to risk using it ,untill I'm at maintenance
I've still to much weight to loose to mess around with something that might or might not work.
From what I've read
If someone starts of on wegovy ,it tends to work better ,than if they swap from monjroro..I think this is because monjroro targets more areas and we get used to less hunger ,Less food noise .. wegovy is not quite as strong so it feels like it's not working...yet had we gone on wegovy first we most probably would of felt it was working..that's my take on it anyway

BigTightropeWalker · 26/10/2025 08:48

Thanks @Theoturkeyflieseast. I bet you’re right about that- that starting on Wegovy, rather than switching to it from Mounjaro, means it’s more effective. Makes sense to me. I’m seriously considering going back to Mounjaro. This will probably involves switching provider for a cheaper one, so will need to get researching asap coz I’m due to reorder soon.

There are some cheaper providers, did you have any luck swapping back

I read that the manufacturer of WeGovy is losing its patent early next year. So it can be made generic and cost about £20 a month.

When is MJ losing its patent? When it does it will be cheaper.

TheLivelyRose · 30/10/2025 09:09

Ok so I looked it up and MJ will come off patent in 2032. So not any time soon. What a shame. It's going to stay expensive for a long time.

Wegovy the patent is due to expire in early 2026. Generic versions should cost about twenty pounds a month.

If i haven't managed to lose the weight I want to by the time it loses its patent.I might try wegovy generic.

HopeIt · 30/10/2025 13:37

Took my first dose of Wegovy last weekend having been on MJ since mid March, as I was on 10mg I started at 1.7mg I have to be honest and say I’ve found the suppression similar, although I should say I had been on 10mg for a few pens and it was becoming more ineffective, so this is fine managing to control eating etc. I have half a stone to lose so will get at least one more pen from wegovy. I was really worried after reading lots of stories but have been quite pleasantly surprised.

Wegovy patent expiration differs per country. Expires in 2031in the UK.
