I can't edit the title, it's not on New Scientist, I have too many tabs open.
But it's very exciting news and you should read it!

That is really interesting, I think the fact that trials on mice showed no weight regain after stopping the medication is unprecedented.

If that stayed the same you wouldn't need any other weight loss medication but this one!

slightlysmallerPoisonIvy · 27/09/2025 21:43

and very little muscle loss in comparison to other wli as it specifically targets the fat and leaves the muscle alone?! I'm excited to see the human trials results for this one!

This is potentially a game changer. Would do the makers of Mounjaro and Wegovy out of business because of its long term impact on weight maintenance, post medication.

SilenceInside · 28/09/2025 14:16

It sounds fascinating. I would find it a bit worrying in a way, that the rodents tested were apparently permanently unable to gain weight. It sounds potentially risky, if you lose too much weight for whatever reason then what do you do? Or is that an unnecessary concern?

slightlysmallerPoisonIvy · 28/09/2025 23:49

@SilenceInside good point, perhaps more monitoring might be required to make sure people don't lose too much weight?

@slightlysmallerPoisonIvy that would certainly be something to consider when the clinical trials on humans are done. I guess it would depend on what the reason for the inability to gain weight was. Is it a permanent reduction in appetite, which could be overridden if you made yourself eat. Or is it down to a permanent metabolic change that couldn’t be reversed. I will be interested to read more about this medication in the future, when the trial results are published.

OMG thanks for letting us know! Here we were thinking that scientists actually know stuff about obesity. You must let them know it really is just that simple and the silly billys can stop wasting time and money on the research.

No sign yet of effective treatments for stupidity or being a bit of a twat, unfortunately.

Love that you edited that to ensure you could be as offensive as possible, I think everyone enjoyed your valuable ans insightful contribution, they should nominate you as head of the WHO and award you a Nobel prize.

Go back a generation or two and see how many morbidly obese folk there were. Go to a country with horrendous poverty where people can't afford to gorge themselves multiple times a day, you won't find morbid obesity.

SilenceInside · 29/09/2025 13:17

@Allthatshines1992 why do you think this is new information to anyone here? That is not what is being discussed. This trial of a new medication is what is being discussed, which you don't seem interesting in discussing. You seem to want to be as rude as possible to people and state obvious things that aren't relevant.

SilenceInside · 29/09/2025 13:17

Edited to remove accidental double post....

Goodness, thanks for rhe additional words of wisdom. You are really helping us all out here. Really Poor people can’t afford to get fat. Who knew! Fat people gorge themselves multiple times a day! Who knew! People were not fat when it was rationed! Who knew !

please share more of this wisdom, consider writing a paper for the British medical journal. All those scientists and doctors wasting time on drugs, when really it’s just lazy greedy people gorging themselves. Write a letter to the telegraph! Inform the WHO!

seriously, keep em coming. We all are hugely enjoying your insights.

You don't need the medication, just eat less and move more.

😂😂😂

slow hand clap for you!

SilenceInside · 29/09/2025 13:28

And... Bingo!

Have you ever considered just how inane it is to repeat that trite little phrase. If it was sustainable for the majority of people to "just" eat less and move more, when told to by a randomer on the internet or even by their GP, or their partner, friend, parent, colleague whatever....then the majority of the UK population would not be overweight or obese. For goodness sake.

@Allthatshines1992 I have lost 10st so far on Mounjaro. I am now not obese for the first time in around 20 years. I have been trying to eat less and move more my entire bloody life, and this is the only time it has been wildly successful. You should be thrilled that the morbidly obese can now fulfil your demands to eat less and move more, thanks to this medication.

Does that mean finally my shares in novo will finally go up?

Also so many skinny mice out there

Seriously though im glad people who need this help will get it.

There are people with nothing starving to death and some selfish greedy person keeps gorging, it's morally repugnant

why don’t you start demonstrating and jog on pal 👋

SilenceInside · 29/09/2025 13:58

@Allthatshines1992 thankfully your god is fictional as is the book you quote. I can see that you judge weight as a moral issue and seem to delight in judging people as immoral and wicked as a result. I think that tells us all we need to know about you.
