Not losing weight on MJ

HappyTuesdayyyy · 26/09/2025 08:03

I have been on Mounjaro for 11 weeks now. I have had 2 pens on 2.5mg and am currently on week 3 of 5mg.

I have only lost 13lbs (8lbs was in the first 3 weeks). I have lost absolutely nothing in the last 3 weeks.

I have appetite suppression and am eating around 1400 cals per day but sometimes that is a struggle. I do try and eat veg, salad and usually grilled chicken every day. I drink water, though admittedly not 2 litres a day.

My exercise has almost stopped due to an injury but hopefully will pick up soon.

What can I do to shift the lbs?

Just keep at it, and you will move through this stage. Your average weight loss is more than a pound a week which is great, and it's very normal for weight loss to slow at times.

SepticPegsSepticLeg · 26/09/2025 08:10

Keep at it.

Drink more water. I always stall when I don't.
Try calorie - cycling (eating more some days and less others)

Yellowsubmarine55 · 26/09/2025 15:19

Just to be sure, check your TDEE and the calorie deficit and then just plod on 🙂

OrlandointheWilderness · 26/09/2025 15:26

Keep at it. I lost nothing the month I was on 5mg. I’m now 8 1/2 stone off and tapering down with a view to coming off it. Keep going and I’d move up a dose.

Zempy · 26/09/2025 15:26

I would gain on 1400 calories a day, so I am not surprised you are maintaining.

Are you obese? or 3 foot tall?

Woompund · 26/09/2025 15:30

OP you've lost weight - you've lost over 1lb a week. What is your TDEE?
You didn't actually lose 8lb of fat in the first 3 weeks, you lost fat and water, and as the water was replaced you carried on losing fat but the water rebalanced so the scales showed less loss. It doesn't mean you have stopped losing weight. What's your starting BMI?

Zempy · 26/09/2025 15:42

Woompund · 26/09/2025 15:29

Neither.

I am 8:11 and 5 ft 4, and disabled. My post menopausal metabolism is completely messed up and I need to stay under 1400 calories in order to maintain a healthy weight.

At the start of the year I weighed 13:7 and had a cholesterol reading of 8.75. Mounjaro has improved my health dramatically and my consultant endocrinologist is very happy with me 😊

But OP has only just started on Mounjaro so she's nowhere near 8 stone! Your TDEE at 13 stone would have been much higher than it is now!

Zempy · 26/09/2025 16:10

No. It wasn’t. I don’t actually know what mine is at the lower weight yet as just started maintenance. At 13:7 I was gaining if I had as much as 1400.

Like I said, consultant endocrinologist is involved in my care. Some of us aren’t chomping through ten Twixes a day to get obese.

Septictanking · 26/09/2025 16:59

If you're menopausal op, welcome to the can't eat fuck all club, I eat very very little to lose, only doable because of mj, I'll be maintaining soon and won't be eating much more it's brutal. My tdee was supposed to be 1200 per day at the start, at 5,5 and 12 st7 but no way could I lose on that, so I cut it right down and did IF 4 stone down now and I'll start to play around to see what maintenance cals look like, I take good quality supplements and have felt healthy and energised so it is what it is.

It’s the same with PCOS. I’ve argued with so many people about this, I cannot lose unless I eat under 1,000 calories a day. Which isn’t sustainable without WLIs!

InfoSecInTheCity · 26/09/2025 17:07

It all comes down to calorie deficit so the important information here is wat is your TDEE and are you eating less than that.

Youve said you’re eating about 1400 calories, how accurate are you being in your trackings.

Why would you say that you aren't surprised the OP isn't losing on 1400 when you are clearly an outlier with an endocrinologist involved? Surely you know that it isn't normal to be obese and have such a low TDEE?

I have PCOS and T2 diabetes. I can eat more calories I just can’t eat carbs.

when I started I was eating 1600 calories and losing weight, as my weight has dropped my TDEE has in line with that. Now I eat about 1300-1400 calories to lose and 1600 has me maintainkng.

I’m not an outlier. If you check out some of the threads where people have been losing weight with WLI, many of us have been unable to lose weight without dropping below those kinds of levels. It’s shit. And it explains why so many of us become obese in our fifties.

BlackOtter · 26/09/2025 19:12

I also can only eat around 1000 calories a day to lose*. I’m 5 ft 6 “. I weight 12 st 4 lbs. Actually I’m in a stall now so not even losing with that!

When I weighed 14’st I needed to eat less than 1200-1300 per day to lose.

I expect at target - 11 st 7 lbs - I will need to eat less than 1000 to maintain.

Rate of weight loss is slow too, much slower than others. Average just over 1/2 pound a week.

I’m 65 and not very active due to chronic health issues. Like others here it really doesn’t take much to push me into the obese category at all.

But keep at it OP. Very early days. Think tortoise and hare!

Absolutely. There are so many variables, and it's not uncommon, and we are not a minority or outliers.

For me, it's disability, menopause and a raft of various other health conditions. I don't think it's unusual to have thyroid problems, Autoimmune conditions and all sorts of other issues by the time you hit 45 / 50+. It's depressing (but not surprising) that so many folk still don't understand this.

A lot of medical research is starting to come out now including the fact that high blood pressure in females is driven by falling hormones in menopause.

HappyTuesdayyyy · 26/09/2025 22:21

I wasn't expecting so many responses, so thank you everyone.

To answer a few questions I'm 52 years old and am 5'4". My starting weight was 236 lbs, and I'm now 223lbs.

I will stick to it at least until Christmas by which time I should be on 12.5mg. I really hope it starts to work for me.

But for tonight, I'm a bit fed up so having a few glasses of wine and enjoying every sip!

Back on it tomorrow.

So with your weight, height and age you should be aiming for 1428 calories a day (see screenshots attached) that puts you in a 500 deficit and should result in 1-2 lbs loss a week.

You do need to be reasonably diligent about tracking your calories, at least while you are getting into the swing of it, you need to be weighing things out because some foods are deceptively calorific and guesstimating could easily lead to you eating more than you think, you also need to make sure you are factoring in cooking oils, condiments etc. You won’t need to be strict forever but for a few weeks just to get a firm understanding of portion size is useful.

You also say you’re not drinking much, in order to break down fat a chemical process called Lipolysis takes place. That process needs water. You don’t need to exclusively drink water but you do need to have enough fluids to stay hydrated, water is calorie free and fills you up so it is a good option and you can add sugar free flavourings if you don’t like it plain.

{mention:HappyTuesdayyyy}@HappyTuesdayyyy enjoy the wine by all means, but not to sound too depressing I absolutely cut out all alcohol as well, because even one glass was a lot of calories to waste and when you're only eating a small amount it matters. The mj actually put me off it, as it does a lot of people I've heard, I never went above 5mg to lose either, I figured it's expensive so I'm not going to treat it like I have other diets as in oh I'll just have a bit of something diet starts tomorrow ki nd of thing because honestly it never does. I am proof that a v low calorie diet works in your fifties, but it only works if you stick to it sadly. I'll be micro dosing from now and have consigned myself to the fact that this is for life now I can't eat and drink like I used to, not if I want to be slim anyway.

Kittkats · 27/09/2025 09:42

@HappyTuesdayyyy Drink water! I stall on less than 3 litres a day. The other things I’ve found are that I need to have more protein to kick start my metabolism, and that too many carbs instead slow/ stall my loss or make me gain even if the amount of calories from a carb heavy diet are the same as those on a protein heavy diet.
Also, try to think of this as skin recovery time rather than as not being able to lose!

FurForksSake · 27/09/2025 15:49

My weight loss has not been linear at all, I’ve come to accepted I stall for 2-3 weeks and then lose a chunk, rinse and repeat. It then evens out to 1lb a week mostly.

Keel going, the stall is going to end. Drinking more will help.

Mumofboys2006 · 28/09/2025 01:03

@BlackOtter- I’m the same. Weight only comes off when eat under 1000 calories. My weight loss has been super slow. Not even a pound a week. Lost a total of around 16lbs in that many weeks. I’ve now moved up to 7.5mg in the hope that helps.
im physically active - gym Pilates etc but post-meno.
