Anyone sticking with Mounjaro despite the price increase?

I’m still debating, I have my next pen then need to decide.

I’m just about to start using it, having a consultation with a local pharmacist next week! It will probably cost more from them as well but I gave a number of health issues and feel more comfortable with using an in-person source where I also have 4 weekly checkups.

I have been paying for twice weekly physio appointments for acupuncture to alleviate arthritis pain in hands and knees so am cutting those back to once a week to pay for the pens.

I feel sorry for anyone who is using MJ to lose significant weight and is going to struggle with the increased costs. I’m not as sympathetic for my friend who has been using it when she is only a stone overweight, she “cheated” in her online consultation by fudging the photo of the scales!

I'm tapering down from 15mg, on 10mg currently so if I decide to stay on a low dose I'll stay on mounjaro as I know it and know it works for me and I don't have side effects, apart from being cold and tired, but I think that's due to low calories. I also work full time, don't have kids, have paid off my mortgage and save the majority of my pay, I don't drink or smoke and haven't been abroad since before covid, so my outgoings are quite low, so for me it's fine. Hoping to get to 5mg then see how I feel about it. 5mg is affordable, less than what I was paying for 15mg.
May be different for those with lots still to lose or needing higher doses.

Callie42 · 04/09/2025 16:24

I don’t think so. Think I’m going to switch to wegovy but I’m not 100% decided. Obviously, it’s not nice having to pay more money but it’s more the principle of the matter for me. I feel like if I stick with mounjaro, I’m rewarding them for the price increase in a weird way. Probably really illogical as my order isn’t going to make the difference either way!

I know someone who did this too at a normal bmi and weight of 10st at 5ft 4.5", she put on 3 layers of clothes for the photo and said she weighed 2st 4lbs extra to get to a bmi of 30.

Yes. I've been on it a year, and am staying on it.

Fatmumslim01 · 04/09/2025 17:34

Me, I'm almost 6 months in, 2.5 stone down, another 2.5 to go. I'm too scared to switch to wegovy incase the non weight loss benefits I've had on mj (and there have been lots!) come back.

MagnoliaTreePetals · 04/09/2025 17:37

Yes, staying with MJ.
It has a number of proven advantages over Wegovy.

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 04/09/2025 17:43

I'm staying. I'm only on 2.5mg with no plans to move up any time soon so the price difference is minimal.

lifetheuniverseandeverything42 · 04/09/2025 17:46

Yep I’m sticking with MJ. I’ve been on it since May and still on 2.5mg so the price isn’t too much worse. I’m about halfway to target so sticking with what I know works. I think I would be considering Wegovy if I was on a higher dose though as that is when the pens start costing a lot more.

Invisablepanic · 04/09/2025 17:49

I am. I'll probably try and figure out a golden dose now however, which I haven't been doing though!

user1481837070 · 04/09/2025 17:52

I’ll be staying on it. I’m still waiting for my order from medexpress from 18 August and I’m getting worried now as I’ll be using my last 12.5mg dose tomorrow so I’m hoping it’s sent next week. I’ve lost 3.5 stones and am at the weight I want to be but will need to start to slowly reduce the dose.

KitsyWitsy · 04/09/2025 17:54

I am. I don't know how I will navigate the issue of making my pens last ages and not wanting to buy more for a while. but I have 4 pens and another couple of stone to lose. I am not going to change at this stage.

PrincessASDaisy · 04/09/2025 17:56

yes. My dose is going up by £40, so it’s manageable for me.

IsItSnowing · 04/09/2025 18:04

I've considered changing but in the end I've decided to stay on mounjaro. I'm on 12.5mg, I was considering going up to 15mg but I think I will stay on 12.5mg now. I've lost nearly 5 stone. Got at least 2 to go.
It's working and I really don't want to mess it up now.
I still haven't decided if I'll switch for maintenance but my thinking is that I'll stick with mounjaro but try to titrate down to a lower dose which will be cheaper.

1stTimeMummy2021 · 04/09/2025 18:37

I'm staying on it, I've been going between 5 and 7.5 doses, going to start getting the extra out though, save some money that way.

PoundsLost · 04/09/2025 18:38

Yes - I’m staying on 10mg as I have adequate suppression and it’s £97 more but I’ll swallow that. Worth it to me. It’s been slow but easy.

PearlsPearl · 05/09/2025 11:53

I’m staying. It’s the first thing in my life that has ever worked for me; and I’m not risking stopping now. It’s also had a massive effect of my inflammation (I have severe lipoedema) and that’s been life changing, so I wouldn’t risk anything changing that.

Orangesandlemons77 · 05/09/2025 14:16

I was pondering over switching to wegovy or stopping, but think I will stay with MJ. I have been on it a year now and lost 5 stone. I'm on some other meds which cause weight gain, it has helped with that.

I'm with Voy, and due to friend referrals can get £100 off each pen so this should bring the cost down a bit, particularly the higher dose pens. But I hope to reduce dose anyway.

gallivantsaregood · 05/09/2025 14:22

Me! I'm staying with MJ. I'd be worried Wegovy wouldn't work as well for my food noise, my arthritis, my feeling of calm. I'm only on 5mg (well 3.75mg really) just now so not a huge leap.

PurpleCoo · 05/09/2025 14:44

I’m sticking. I have been on it since mid Feb, I have lost around 24kg, and only have about 3-6kg to go. The plan is to taper down once I am at the weight I want to be, whatever that turns out to be. It would be silly to change at this stage, when it’s been working so perfectly, and also addresses other issues such as IBS and some peri symptoms that HRT alone wasn’t really tackling.

I have just finished my first 7.5mg pen, and managed to get 6 x 6.25mg doses out of it. Hopefully I won’t need to increase from this and can continue to get six doses. I have two pens, as I managed to buy 1 extra pen when the price changes were announced. So 12 doses at current regime. To be fair, even if I started reducing, I wouldn’t stretch to more than 6 doses, I don’t mind going a few days over the 30 day guideline, but no more than that.

I am hoping that by the time I need to buy another pen, I will a) be on a lower dose/cheaper pen and b) prices will be a bit cheaper once pharmacies are trying to entice people to carry on with/start mounjaro. It’s been a bit of a sellers market with the scramble for pens at present.

HollyhockDays · 05/09/2025 14:48

I’ve never gone above 5mg. I’ve stayed with Voy the whole time. I don’t have time to shop about. I’m tapering down at the minute on 2.5 so need to see if I can hold at that weight. I’ll probably stick with them as it’s about £20 more expensive.

OnceIn · 05/09/2025 14:58

I’ve been working my way back down again, and now at 5mg, I’ll be sticking with it as I did try to stop and my hunger came back with a vengeance

lemoncrisp · 05/09/2025 15:07

I'm staying on it. Been taking it for 9 months and reached my target weight. Not sure how or when to taper off just yet so not rushing to change.

maxisback · 05/09/2025 19:04

Yes but I only take 2.5mg so have had the smallest increase.

addictedtotheflats · 05/09/2025 20:39

Yes. I have 12lbs to lose. I am currently on 7.5mg using a 10mg pen and i'm going to buy a 12.5mg pen next month and continue to use 7.5mg which should last me 8 weeks. Once I am at maintenance I will continue to buy 12.5mg and gradually decrease the dose.
