Does the injection hurt?

I didn't realise the jab came with an actual needle that I'd have to inject.
This is a bit wussy but ... Is the jab going to hurt?

What did you think weight loss injections would be then?

It doesn't hurt but I do feel a scratch when it goes in. I know most people don't though.

Overtheatlantic · 23/08/2025 18:03

Not at all. I’m an absolute wuss about needles so I was surprised and grateful that it didn’t hurt or sting, even a little.

Keepingthingsinteresting · 23/08/2025 18:04

I’m scared of injections. Yes it does hurt, but not a huge amount you just have to hold your nerve for about 30 seconds and it’s over. If you’ve decided you need WLIs it’s got to be worth that, right?

You barely feel it ... I'm almost needle phobic and I could cope with it.

The side effects were a problem for me but not the needles.

SilenceInside · 23/08/2025 18:06

No, not even a scratch for me.

🤣🤣 I know, right?!
I assumed it was like a smart pen - you pressed a button at the top of the syringe that pushed the Mounjaro into you.

Weirdly my first couple bruised (but didn't hurt) now I don't even feel it!

Via magic?

it don’t think it hurts at all. And you get quite pro at it quite quickly.

EveryDayisFriday · 23/08/2025 18:11

Occasionally it stings for a second but over with easily enough. I've not been brave enough to jab my arms or legs which have less fat. I figured my wobbly tum would be better to inject.

ItsStillWork · 23/08/2025 18:13

It didn’t hurt at first, but the more weight I lost and the less fat I had on me, then it used to hurt every time

Comedycook · 23/08/2025 18:17

I barely feel anything...in fact the first time I did it I was worried I hadn't even punctured the skin as I thought I'd feel more.

AmythestBangle · 23/08/2025 18:20

I don't feel it at all. If I wasn't looking at it I wouldn't know it was happening. And it's not "30 seconds and its over", more like 5 seconds, when I do it anyway. Total non-event, sensory-wise.

AmythestBangle · 23/08/2025 18:22

But like others I also have to wonder how you bought something called an injection and were surprised to find it was an injection!

They still use needles to get the liquid through your skin!

I'm genuinely gobsmacked how some adults get through life sometimes.

It’s completely normal to worry but it really doesn’t hurt x

MonjourMadame · 23/08/2025 20:21

The needle/plunger thing surprised me too. I'd presumed it would be like the thing that you use to draw blood from your finger for reading your blood sugar.

It didn't hurt me, but I've never quite got over how unnatural it is to pierce one's skin.

Recently it's started to sting, so PP's comment about it being easier in the earlier (fatter) days makes sense to me.

Nunenco · 23/08/2025 20:28

As you lose weight and there is less fat you start feeling the needle a bit more but it’s not at all painful. If you are really nervous maybe to some numbing cream such as Elma. Fab it on the area and cover with cling film and wipe clean when you are ready to inject. I used to buy numbing cream for the kids when they needed blood tests etc.. I also found a video as to how to prep the pen a good confidence giver.

FurForksSake · 23/08/2025 20:29

No, I don’t find it hurts. You do need to push the needle end down to dispense the liquid and then after that leave the needle in for a good five seconds while holding the button down before taking it out. I don’t even notice a pin prick or blood afterwards.

when you put the needles into the sharps bin don’t push them down by the uncovered end or you’ll prick your finger. Instead turn it so the covered needle tip is up and push it in that way.

Yes same, I'm bmi 24.0 and it hurts everytime but barely felt it until a few months ago. It does hurt less when I relax my tummy.

ShrankLastWinter · 23/08/2025 21:22

I’m a (just about recovered) needle-phobe but even I don’t think this injection is a big deal. The needle is tiny and incredibly thin. Occasionally I get a sensitive bit, so then I take it out and re-jab somewhere else before squeezing the syringe.

Imperativvv · 23/08/2025 22:00

Been at it nearly 6 months. Once I had one that made me yelp for some reason. Never otherwise.

usedtobeaylis · 23/08/2025 22:06

I don't think they're sore as such but I do find I feel some more than others. I was five months on Mounjaro before I realised the needles I've had and have still got are all different lengths. There's 4mm, 5mm, and 6mm though I haven't checked the gage in them. As I said, they're not sore but if you're worried check the length of them and see if you can use a 4mm.

I think she means a bit like an epipen?

LittleNoosh · 23/08/2025 22:23

Sometimes it stings a little, sometimes it doesn’t. But whenever it does it’s far more like getting slightly pricked by a sharp stable or splinter than a full on injection.

As someone who is scared of needles I do have to pull myself together before each time, but I can manage it.

What I do is to prep the needle without trying to think about why I’m doing it. Then a take a few breaths and then try to inject it in quite quickly. The longer I wait the worse it is.

The first time I did it I asked DH to do it. But he waited so long before actually doing it that I got more nervous.

it gets easier I promise
