Shemed January Starters - Thread 4

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 22/08/2025 18:38

Hello everyone! I completely missed the other thread was full (haven't been too well this week) so I've started this one and will tag as many people as I can think of from recent pages. Do tag anyone else you think of that might miss the new thread!

I hope everyone is okay. It's been unsettling times hasn't it with all the news about the price increases and very little from Shemed as to what they are planning. I am hopeful that of all people we will be shielded the most due to being on the Study (fingers crossed).

I weighed in this morning and took second dose of the 10mg. I seemed to put on this morning but if I take the weight I've been most of this week...

I am exactly half way to my target! And I've lost 25% of my bodyweight!

10mg - so far no burps or nausea but I am wondering if this extreme tiredness is in part due to the drug. Was eating just as I was before the last couple of days but today don't want to eat so who knows!

I'll read up and tag people if I can.

Morning!

In office day for me yesterday plus jab day. I went for 2.5 out of my 5mg pen, still two in the fridge. Scales are a pound up, to be expected after the weekend.

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden the pharmulous call was 5 mins. I'm not confident until I start ordering that I can do one month on and off. i suspect I will need to reduce to 2.5 for them to allow me to do that.

@kittykarate I hope you're not too sore today

@meatyryvita it is frightening how I was squeezing into clothes. My size 10s all still "fit" but when I had to buy something new for a funeral I had to buy a 14 and now in the same shop a size 6 is loose. Obviously generous sizing but that doesn't bode well for the 14 I was wearing on my tiny 5'1 figure!

@Kaggi9 I was literally talking about this today. I look in the mirror and don't feel any different. Although I have a wrinkly stomach and C-section overhang that's been there since first child, got worse with second. I don't think I had a wrinkly belly after losing weight from the second child but I didn't get this lean (half a stone heavier). I can't trust myself with mirrors so will need to stick to the scales and as above I also can't trust myself with clothes given I was squeezing into them for years!! 🤣

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 16/09/2025 08:19

I was definitely wearing clothes that were on the small side. I was wearing stretchy seasalt dresses and leggings and they do look better with less weight....

Well I’m glad weigh in was yesterday! Jumped on the scales this morning, as I always do, and I’m 4lb heavier than yesterday 😳 Struggling with constipation again though - as much as I’m liking 10mg, it isn’t liking my digestive system!

Reginaphalangeeeee · 16/09/2025 12:09

Morning all.
I was reading the horse ridding posts and thought nope… no way will I ever get to a weight where I feel it would be ok to put that on a horse.
I mean, it’s not one of my goals but then got me thinking. What things in society I automatically exclude myself from due to my my weight…

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden you brought up rides and yes, I was worried about fitting on them after one embarrassing experience of being turned away at Alton towers. I too do not like ride much now but have booked a trip to Disney! We go in October and I’m so excited to be a more normal size to experience it.

planes-seatbelts is a big thing and after my recent holiday now feel confident I don’t have to worry about needing an extension.

Horse ridding, I don’t know what the weight limit is but not a chance I could do it.

Howabout those zip line courses… I have not considered due to my size, but maybe I could one day.

I think my magical landmark of getting to under 100kg is on the horizon. I am 103.5kg today.
It means just under 1 kg loss this week but considering the + 2 KG from holiday a few weeks ago gone and I had my period this week I am happy.

10mg (used my Numan pen) has felt surprisingly strong this week. I know it has to be the same as the SheMed one but it hit me. No sulphur burps, reasonable supression but intense tiredness, dry mouth, so cold and headache. It took me back to the start of this journey. I could have slept the day away.

The weight limit at my local Riding for the Disabled place is 13st in all clothes/hat etc. I think most places are the same. I used to ride regularly and had my own horses for years, but didn’t think I’d ever get back to a point where I could think about doing it again, but I now need to lose less than I already have to get there!

kittykarate · 16/09/2025 13:49

The weight limit is generally viewed as the total weight of rider wearing all their gear + the weight of the tack (saddle, bridle etc) must not exceed 20% of the weight of the horse. However, best practice is not to be at 20% (because everyone lies about their weight, and most horse weights are estimates based on measurements), but closer to 15%.

I've put a kg on during my last week of Mounjaro, so that's a bit of a downer. Just done my first Wegovy, gotta get my brain back in gear. As a piece of equipment, the Wegovy pen feels much better engineered than the Mounjaro one. Much more positive clicks when the needle is attached, much smaller plunge on the injection etc.

Reginaphalangeeeee · 16/09/2025 15:42

Safe to say I won’t be riding any horses any time soon.
With in 1-2 Kg I will be out of the 16stone bracket and into 15.
Strange as this really will be very light for me but I also remember as a child a friends mum accidently sat on those weigh scales from the 90’s at a sports centre and we all saw her weight was 15stone. I remember that her mum was ‘bigger’ and wore baggy trousers but the chatter among the girls was how massive that was, more than most daddies and wow maybe as much as a horse 🙄

Its funny how memories come back.Through my life Inhave switched from stone to KG and back and forth a few times so time stamps and conversion often trigger memories

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 17/09/2025 06:46

I am absolutely nowhere near being able to ride a horse... But it is one of those things I'd love to do with my daughter if I get to a healthy bmi (sort of "end goal" target!) rather than one to tick off on the way.

@Reginaphalangeeeee I am so excited for you to be going to Disney!!! I would love to go. We've been to Paris one a couple of times but my girls would also love to go back to Paris. I'm hoping that my income will increase a bit at work but we're still just about affording MJ 😬. Rides wise I think Disney have more space than AT - I love the Disney theming - have a fab time ❤️.

I hope the mounjaro switch is going well for those moving over.

@Reginaphalangeeeee ive got similar associations with various weights. I feel at this stage I'm constantly in a half way tension of "oooh I've lost weight - I've not been this slim in 10 years" and "gosh I weigh more than my dad"

OP posts:
Reginaphalangeeeee · 17/09/2025 07:43

Thank you @FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden
we have never been to Disney before & so a few days there including a day in Paris is very exciting. It is out of my budget of honest so will be paying it back a long time but this year has made me worry “I’m running out of time’.
I know grief has done that but also loosing this weight… it’s made me sad I have wasted time, time being unhealthy and unhappy and living a 1/2 life. My children are growing and I don’t want to miss chances. I hope I am not becoming as unresponsible with money as I have been with food and my health. But I have started to have some urgency about getting memories, things to make me happy. These longer term goals feel a bit like torture, the putting off and putting life on hold until ‘I finally loose the weight’ which replicates my forever thoughts. I want to do those things now.
Who knows if that is grief or weight loss that has changed my mind set but it played a big part in the Disney trip and again in my decision to stay on MJ to loose weight.

Bananaramram · 17/09/2025 10:40

Hi all! Gosh, I haven’t posted in ages, but I have been lurking!

I’ve hit the 5 stone mark now, think another stone will do me. I still have a tummy but I can see some serious muscle definition on the arms and beneath the loose skin on my legs.

I have made the switch to Wegovy, first jab is meant to be next week. However, my dad has given me a 10mg pen. He’s on it through the NHS but only takes it every other week now so has ended up with an extra. Going to have to be careful with my check-in calls but if I do this last MJ pen, it means I end up with an extra month after the study ends.

SheMed gave me 0.75 of WG even though their chart says it should be 1mg for 10mg of MJ. Irritating but I didn’t raise it immediately and I should have.

kittykarate · 17/09/2025 11:33

I'm a bit torn on how the change over is being handled (by all providers)

  • Previously, providers wanted you to have a few weeks off and then start at lowest dose on switchover.
  • Now suddenly it's 'ok' to just swap without a break and to start on a 'higher' dose.
I also think the dose comparison charts are just fitting the available doses against each other so it looks comparable, and not necessarily based on science.

I was bloody freezing last night after my first Wegovy, had to put an extra blanket on my side of the bed.

Kaggi9 · 17/09/2025 11:50

I took my first WG last week and haven’t had any side effects. I was switched across to what they class as compatible to MJ 5mg after discussion with a clinician and told because I had had no side effects I just needed 7 days in between the two.

However, I’m also cold, but not sure if that’s coming back from Italy to freezing England!

Earthgirl3971 · 17/09/2025 12:19

I think it's been two weeks since I took my last injection of MJ.

Cold turkey is hard I don't recommend it. I am having to have immense self control to keep fasting and drinking water to prevent brain hunger signals. I've eaten more snacks and more of my meals as I've felt like it. Bloody nice to not feel so nauseous all the time and ate out last Friday with my kids and enjoyed every morsel.

The reason I've done this is I couldn't get my head around starting my menopause medication plus starting a new WLI so I've decided to prioritise the menopause medication as it's a life long treatment I need to be sure it suits me. Despite terrible migraines and explosive farts I think I've been ok and settling down with side effects. This will be the last month I ovulate or have any rectum or period pain in all hope. Pray for me. 🙏

I plan to start my 0.5mg of WG either tomorrow or next Thursday. I keep using the late check in log late injection on the app as it feels a performance to check in falsely on the phone. I haven't weighed myself. I think I'm roughly the same but ovulation is blowing me up like a balloon as always. Fingers crossed it's for the last time.

X

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 17/09/2025 16:32

@Reginaphalangeeeee It doesn't sound irresponsible at all - and yes it's so important to grab the chance to do these thigns if you can isn't it. My eldest is nearly 17 and talking about uni and yes it does feel so fast. I've had moments thinking of the things I've not been able to do with them - especially rides/horses/long walks/shopping trips and just them knowing "mummy needs to sit." My youngest used to run ahead and grab a bench for me...

@Bananaramram Wahooooo 5stone!!
@kittykarate Yes I'd wondered similarly. I think one of the pharmacies I looked at still recommended you start from the beginning. Grrr for the cold I was like that when I started MJ and I guess the Glp1 is more in wegovy. Hopefully any side effects will just be it settling in.
@Kaggi9 Yay for no side effect ts!

(((((Earth girl))))))). I hope the move to wegovy y goes okay. And it must be strange to enjoy food again if you weren't before. I hope the meno meds go well. I started adhd meds and MJ earlier this year and haven't approached the Dr about menopause meds yet...

Been wondering how all of you WG transitioners are doing? Hope side effects manageable.

I found this month I am so so tired on MJ, like at the very start. My dose is stable at 10mg but it’s floored me this week without digestive side effects. Beginning to wonder if this tired as transitioned into soup lunches & maybe calories are lower but I don’t think so.
I think about 1Kg down this week which feels right especially as post period.

interested to hear from u all

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 19/09/2025 00:24

I am truly exhausted. I think I am eating less and less variety which may be part of it for me (I must be as I'm losing weight again overall). I don't feel like I'm eating less as I feel so full...

I'm going to try jab 9 tomorrow in the hope it helps. I've done 5weeks on 10 so I'd hoped it would settle but I'm so so tired. I've also got sulphur burps happening around the jab. And I vaguely wondered if I eat enough iron/variety of veg anymore. I'm so disinterested in cooking my husband does a basic jacket potato or basic meal but at lunch I'm not even cutting up the veg I was at the beginning... I don't think I get rhe amount of protein some people get.

I need to make some veg soups.

But work is also very hard and life.. So who knows. And I may not have actually lost this week (will see in the morning) but I lost half a stone over 2 weeks and had a woosh just before - all after the slow month so it's a bit all over the place.

Are you thinking of trying mounjaro? I want to dose down MJ to see if I can be less tired but don't want to lose the weightloss... With 5 stone to go it still feels a long way.

A manager at work I only see a few times a year was really lovely today. She kept saying I was doing really well and did say I was shrinking - I just agreed and said I am! And I'm hoping it keeps going. But when I left she really smiled and said how well I looked :)

This was the moment I wanted a few months in and it's good to finally be there.

Also apart from the exhaustion - I was full of energy this morning (then I crashed) and life really is better. I know I'm coming across more confident and happier.

OP posts:
Reginaphalangeeeee · 19/09/2025 06:59

That’s a good shout @FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden
I did 9mg while on holiday. Main reason because It was the golden dose and I got my measurements wrong 🙄.
However once I realised it was probably a good thing given food choices etc.

I know I am on my second pen but looking back at Shotsy I realise I did 9mg for the first 2 jabs too. So 9, 9, 10, 10, 9, 10,10.
maybe my exhaustion is the build up of 10mg that I hadn’t quiet considered until you mentioned.

Like you, I don’t want to stop the weight loss & if anything I need to think of how long I can afford to keep going.

Numan released its new prices for October 😩
I don’t regret going with them as x2 pens at £169 each is great but new prices even more than SheMed.
I think with my current stock/next purchase and using golden doses I can keep on it until January. But I think that will be my end point.
Figure no point moving SheMed into WG as our deal would end Jan anyway. If I ordered and used it to transition, I then may not get in with it and waste it.

I dunno @FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden. January if the end point on drugs for me unless I purchase some cheaper doses to help maintain then. But I can not afford new prices.
C*gpt helped me predict my weight loss. Currently about 2.5kg a month. So 7.5kg off by end date. There is a long way to go after that still.

kittykarate · 19/09/2025 09:37

Hi @Reginaphalangeeeee - I've only just switched over to Wegovy onTuesday and my side effects seem comparable with when I stepped up a dose on Mounjaro

  • Definitely feel cold more
  • Tinnitus
  • Sleep a bit random (2 nights where the cats standing on my head didn't wake me up, followed by one night of being semi awake - though this might be because I'd got to an exciting bit in my audiobook)
  • Feel about the same amount of 'fullness' but maybe a little more aware that nice food exists.

Things that are different - slight constipation, no metallic taste in my mouth.

I was probably stepped back a step on the dose strength when I transferred across, was on 7.5 MJ now on 0.5 mg Wegovy, which I think is closer to 5 MJ.

Hope you're doing ok @Earthgirl3971 you must have jabbed your first now!

Earthgirl3971 · 19/09/2025 10:07

Hey yes 😁 I decided to bite the bullet last night after dinner and just did the late check in today.

The pen is so much easier to use than the MJ pen and hurts much less. Easy to find 0.5mg.

I hadn't put on a 1lb of weight over the 2 weeks of not taking it which was a bonus but like I've said before I've needed to think about every single thing I've put inside my mouth which of course has been challenging sometimes. I've kept my portions the same though, fasted until 11.30am and drank loads of water. Some unhealthy food has snuck in but I'm trying to separate brain hunger from physical hunger actively now and not furnishing myself with a choc bar after dinner as of course I'm not hungry I've just eaten.

I'm normally feeling pretty dreadful by now with tiredness so it's nice to not feel that. Id definitely reached my limit to tolerate MJ, I'm glad of the change now.

Constipation is bad with Ryeqo that's the only thing , Wegovy might disrupt the absorption of it so I've been advised not to use it as a contraceptive until my periods have completely dried up, could be a few months. It's ok as not much action over here anyway. Adeno and Edeno pain flare ups see to that!

Hope everyone is good and coping well with the transition.

X

Took jab 2 of WG today. Current side effects are possibly the cold, although maybe just the weather, and interestingly, I’ve had horrendous period pain overnight - more like what I used to get before I started on MJ. Maybe the second ingredient was the key!

I lost lbs this week though, so now 10st7. Wasn’t planning on that!

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 19/09/2025 20:02

Fab to hear that Wegovy is going well 😊. I'd certainly be keen not to have this tiredness zzzz.

@Reginaphalangeeeee There are definitely cheaper providers... Medino and pharmulous are the 2 I was looking at but still not quite sure how it works after a few monthsb"break"to use up pens - especially if we split doses. I wish I was a bit closer to target as I'd be happier to switch to wegovy.

I can't risk changing while work is this crazy so it would have to be Xmas or easter or ideally summer...

So - I may have compeltely screwed up my golden dose. I sometimes teach maths.😳 This was basic error (over tired - I am poster girl now for why they should have tighter regs). I've jabbed 10.8 instead of the 9 I was going for 🙈.

Hope everyone's okay. I suspect I will sleep /zombify the weekend...

Oh no @FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden.
it is surprisingly easy to work it out wrong. How many ml on syringe did you do? It should be 0.6ml.
i got confused and did 0.5ml while on holiday = just under 9mg

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 19/09/2025 22:05

I did 6.5. I meant to do 5 so not quite sure how I ended up doing that. I think I was trying to get it to ". 5" instead of 5. It's only my second time with the syringe... I know I haven't dine any damage just feel stupid as I was aiming for less side effects not more! I will be more careful next time!!

I've already had a sleep when I got in from work and just know I'll be a zombie tomorrow. Thankfully although I've got a lot of work to do I'm mostly home so can do it Sunday and rest Saturday afternoon at least.

Great to hear from you @kittykarate@Kaggi9 and @Earthgirl3971
so pleased you are well on your way with WG.
So coldness and constipation seem the deal for same fullness levels but good more temping to eat yummy things. Oh and less tiredness.
sounds like a good transitioning to help support you but test your will power too.
Maybe one day I’ll get there and prices will be lower by then.

I wish SheMed would release some sort of statement of how many members on adherence have moved to WG, how many staying on MJ and how many left them. Really interested but know they won’t released that.
How about in general WLI users, you think mist have moved to WG. I mean I know someone where Money is no concern but out of principle they refused to buy it and moved to WG.

If Money were no issue I would get down 3-4 stone more then titrate dose down low and stay on it for life. Oh and hire a chef to cook for me.

@OneAzureMaker and @Bear2014 and @JBJ hope you are all doing ok?

OneAzureMaker · 19/09/2025 22:24

@Reginaphalangeeeee I am good thank you, I had somehow stopped getting notifications for the thread until you tagged me, so thank you!

So I have a full 10mg Numan pen, and another one on its way on the 30th September, I still have the golden dose left of my last Mounjaro from shemed to use too. Numan have just sent an offer of 20% off their list price if you commit to 3 months, so I may do that, but really not sure, so might go elsewhere.

I have begun a HIIT strength training group for women aged 40+. We meet at 7am in a park and exercise outside using weights, dumbbells, medicine balls, battle ropes etc! As part of this there is. 6 week induction which looks at diet, increasing protein etc. and I'm really hoping it will give me the kick start I need. Very strangely, for the first time ever I'm enjoying the exercise, though it is hard, really hard. I think being outside, being with a group of women and the fact I'm home by 8 and feel that I've actually achieved something really helps.

My eating isn't great, I still have good suppression on 10mg, but the combination of starting a new role and feeling so tired with all the new stuff, getting to know people and routines, is exhausting and old habits creep in. Today deliveroo brought burgers - though they were beautiful handmade ones and I didn't eat the bun!!

It's good to hear about those on wegovy and that it is going well, it may well be a route I take.
