Are weight loss jabs worth it?

Has anyone privately used weight loss jobs and how have you found them?

I have been loosing weight through dieting but am genuinely getting annoyed with seeing all my friends who are on the jabs loose weight faster than me. They have the jabs and continue to eat and drink like they used to, meanwhile I am literally working my butt off to lose weight.

Are they worth it? I have health anxiety and this is the only reason I haven’t tried them so far as I know I will be panicking about what they are doing to me 🤦🏻‍♀️

Yes, for me they are worth it. Not sure about your friends continuing to eat and drink as normal, as I absolutely would not be able to do this on Mounjaro. Perhaps they are already teeny-tiny people who have always lived on chicken salad and mint tea.

SilenceInside · 22/08/2025 15:53

An important bit of information is that people lose weight at different rates whilst on weight loss injections. If you look around at the threads on here there’s one for “plodders” who are losing weight very slowly, and everything in between. So being jealous of your mates is not a reason to decide to take a prescription medication.

Another useful bit of information, your friends will not being eating and drinking like they used to, no matter what you think you’ve seen or what they’re telling you. That is absolutely not how WLIs work, they don’t melt fat whilst you sit and eat cake. The only way you lose weight with them is to be in a calorie deficit.

SilenceInside · 22/08/2025 15:54

Another point, would you meet the prescribing criteria for them? Is your BMI 30 or higher?

MrsMiagi · 22/08/2025 16:02

So you can't eat the same. I have made a good effort to seem the same to my friends who don't know I am on the jabs but if you looked closely enough you'd see I move food around the plate so it looks like I have eaten more than I have. I went for a prosecco brunch and topped up the drinks so it wasn't as obvious I was drinking much more slowly.
I have lost just over 50 pounds and I am pleased but I may have to be on them for life which will be expensive

HansHolbein · 22/08/2025 16:07

Worth it in what way? I’ve lost 8st with no side effects and it’s managed my PCOS, so it’s worth it in that respect, yes.

With regards to food, I’ve eaten UPF a handful of times since October. I don’t relate to your friends.

I did it the ‘hard way’ for over 20 years, it’s a relief to have it easy for once.

DarkForces · 22/08/2025 16:08

If you want to buy weight loss injections the first thing to do is check whether you meet the prescribing criteria. If you do please research how they work. They just make it a bit easier to eat less by stabilising your hunger signal hormones and slowing digestion. You still need a calorie deficit and it's not a quick fix.

Thebigonesgetaway · 22/08/2025 16:09

It isn’t possible to keep eating and drinking as you used to and lose weight, the drugs don’t melt fat, they simply enable you to diet.

PickleSarnie · 22/08/2025 16:10

Your friends absolutely are not "eating and drinking what they used to"

WLI's dont magically burn fat. You still need to eat less calories than you expend. All WLIs do is make that much easier to do because you feel fuller faster and less interested in snacking.

AugustMounjaroTeam · 22/08/2025 16:11

They have the jabs and continue to eat and drink like they used to

No, they don't. They wouldn't be losing weight if they did. The jabs aren't magic, all they do is make it easier to restrict how much you eat. If you still managed to eat the same amount, you wouldn't lose weight.

As to whether they're worth it, absolutely yes for me.

Ganddiva1 · 22/08/2025 16:35

They are not eating what they want, they're restricting calories, it may look like they're eating what they want but in private they would have to be in deficit to lose, they aren't a magic pill unfortunately, if that's what you think they are you'd be disappointed.
Plus if they've continued to eat crap and not overhaul their diet they'll clap it back on, I eat completely differently now, I Fasting, protein prioritised, no alcohol, hopefully I'll keep off the 3 and a half stone, only half a stone to go now to 8 2 and I'll be happy, it's been worth it for me.

Nevertrustacop · 22/08/2025 16:38

If your friends are losing weight, they are eating less than they used to eat. How else would the jabs work?

TheCaloricDecline · 22/08/2025 16:39

I can imagine it feels really unfair seeing your friends lose weight quickly while you’re putting in so much effort. One thing to keep in mind though is that the jabs do affect appetite, and people still need to make changes to their eating and drinking habits for them to work long term.

It might look from the outside like they’re carrying on as normal, but often that’s not the full picture.

If the jabs make you feel anxious, then it’s probably not the right option for you at the moment, and that’s completely okay.

BabyCatFace · 22/08/2025 16:39

Your friends cannot possibly be eating and drinking like they used to and also losing weight. They aren't magic, they help people eat in calorie deficit. Of course they are worth it, they are amazing.

Joeydoesntsharefood25 · 22/08/2025 16:42

If you do use the jabs it's extremely important that you change your eating habits and start strength training as people who rapidly lose weight are losing a lot of muscle which leaves you frailer and less metabolically healthy in the long run. When you inevitably stop the drugs your metabolism will gave crashed and you'll likely gain the weight back.

Sunshinesash · 22/08/2025 16:44

You say you have health anxiety - are you generally in good health? I think that for the vast majority of people this is a life changing piece of medicine and really does make change for the better. Of course there are side effects but for most people who are otherwise healthy with no underlying health conditions this is a great place to start when you’ve exhausted all other avenues

Enrichetta · 22/08/2025 16:47

Absolutely fine if you use it as an adjunct to a fundamental change in lifestyle. Now is the time to switch to a healthy Mediterranean diet and working out most days, both cardio and - very important! - resistance based exercise.

HeidiLite · 22/08/2025 16:49

your friends who are losing weight are not eating and drinking the same as before. That's not how jabs work. They make it easier to stick to calorie deficit.

CharlotteLightandDark · 22/08/2025 16:55

I’ve just started them and am losing weight pretty slowly, around 500g a week. Slow and steady is much better for avoiding things like pancreatitis/gallstones.

i still have to stay in a calorie deficit and prioritise healthy lean protein and veggies, although I can eat less healthy stuff if I want, just less of it. I’d be very surprised if your friends are eating exactly like they did when they weren’t on it.

if you can lose weight steadily without them I would save your money, they’re about to increase significantly in price

Thebigonesgetaway · 22/08/2025 16:57

Op losing weight isn’t a race, anyone losing weight is eating in a defecit. Whether they are on the jabs or not to help them achieve that. It maybe better to take time to understand how the drugs work, especially if you suffer from hypochondria, as injecting something you don’t understand, and even seem to think magically melts fat and people can continue as they were when obese, shows a distinct lack of understanding of even the basics, which are very well publicised.

once you take the time to understand them you can make an educated decision, or even talk to your friends, as it seems you’ve not done so and don’t understand what they are doing either, as what you’ve written is not humanly possible.

Apart from anything else , if they continued to eat and drink normally in the way they did to get fat in the first place then they wouldn't lose weight. So that is bollocks .

Eating less is literally the only way to lose weight, jabs or no jabs. The injection allows you to lower calorie intake and stick to it which is probably why they are losing faster.

Also the vast majority of people are buying them "privately" because virtually impossible to access via the NHS .

Absolutely agree! So many people think that WL jabs enable you to eat what you like,as much as you like and the fat just melts away!

Time for the bingo card

Yellowsubmarine55 · 22/08/2025 19:17

I'm assuming that the food they were eating previously and now allegedly eating is not particularly healthy. Therefore they may well be eating it but judging by my experience and others on here they probably are spending the rest of the night in the loo with d&v.

If that's what they want, crack on I'd say.

But if you don't want to live in the loo then changing eating habits including quantity is the way forward.

reluctantbrit · 22/08/2025 20:29

I am on MJ for a month now and my whole eating has changed. I hadn’t had any sweets, biscuits or junk food. I had the odd glass of wine but I am drinking a glass over 2 hours instead of refilling once or twice per evening.

I went out twice for dinner, both times I couldn’t finish my meals, ate mainly the protein,

I would say I eat 1/2 of my pre-jab portions sizes. I eat around 1200-1400 calories per day and loose around 2lb per week.

The jabs help getting your food cravings under control and help suppressing appetite, they are not a miracle pill to have your fat melting away.

Also, you have to be above BMI 30 to get it prescribed privately.

Yeah they aren’t doing that.
