Mounjaro seems to be getting less and less effective…

This is my 4th month on MJ. I had good suppression on 2.5 for the first month and lost quite a lot so I ordered another 2.5 for the second month. However towards the end of that my appetite was coming back so I went up to 5. I didn’t notice much difference so for this 4th month I’ve gone up to 7.5 but it doesn’t seem to be making any difference. My appetite isn’t anymore suppressed, in fact it’s coming back even more strongly. Has it just stopped working?! I feel no difference on 7.5 than I did at 2.5. Anyone else found this? Did going up to 10 make any difference? I only had mild side effects in the first month, don’t have any now

Unfortunately Mounjaro doesn’t work for everyone, some people have better results with Wegovy for example.
I moved up a dose monthly up to 7.5mg which gave me no suppression at all. I’ve stayed on 10mg for a couple of months now and it’s just starting to not be as effective. Shame I won’t be able to afford the next dose up!

Diabetes aside, I’m struggling to understand how people are being prescribed these drugs. If you get them on the NHS, are they free? Can you get them simply for being fat? Does anyone know the long term effects?

😂😂. Firstly, you could Google and find much of this information.

Secondly most people are not prescribed in NHS, they are prescribed privately via a pharmacy/doctor and private prescription.

And just being fat- comes with a number of health risks, all of which can be overcome by losing weight. You have to have a BMI of 30 (some exceptions for certain co-morbidities).

FoxRedPuppy · 23/08/2025 22:37

Further, the have been used for weight loss for 10 years plus, so yes a lot is known about long term effects. They are life changing.

@PeopleWatching17

If you get them on the NHS, are they free? If you don't pay for prescriptions then they would be free, otherwise they would be the standard prescription charge. But currently the NHS has additional requirements for eligibility for Mounjaro that mean that very few people actually qualify, even if their NHS area are able to provide this service. Wegovy is only prescribed on the Tier 3 weight loss service which you need to be referred to and often has a long waiting list, and often only offers bariatric surgery instead.

Can you get them simply for being fat? For a private prescription, you need a BMI of 30 or higher, which is obese. Or for certain ethnicities, a BMI of 27 or higher which is where "obese" starts for those groups. Or you can have a BMI of 27 or higher with a weight related health condition.

Does anyone know the long term effects? Yes, these medications have been researched and trialled, as with all other medication. Does this mean that some as yet unknown negative issues might arise in the future, well, who can say? But that is no different to any other recent medication.

Does that help you to understand a bit more about WLI?

I’ve been on it for 4 months. Not noticed any change at all. It’s all very well people saying you have to change what you eat and stay in calorie deficit, every woman knows this is the basis of most diets. The jab is supposed to make that easier by suppressing appetite and reducing food noise. Otherwise you may as well not be on it because the struggle is the same! I have tried and tried to follow the usual diet rules while on the jabs but had the same success as usual. I’m going up to 12.5 shortly and can only hope the higher levels have an effect. Otherwise I feel like I’ve wasted best part of £600 with nothing to show for it.

Maybe that 'outing hobby' that gets vaguely mentioned here so often is haunting the WLI threads with 'concerns' or 'genuine questions'.

Valenciaoranges · 24/08/2025 01:55

I have great appetite suppression on 2.5/5 and 7.5. I lost 2 stone but have stayed at that loss give or take a few pounds
I exercise regularly: spin sessions 3/4 times a week plus weights at least 3 times but my weight isn’t really changing. I look slim to be fair but psychologically don't like being 68kg at 1:64 and my BMI is 25.3 which is still classed as overweight!! I really have to make myself eat the required protein but very good at fruit/veg etc. i drink lots of water.

All the studies show that for some people there is no effect (for the life of me can’t remember the scientific term).

If you are calorie counting then you should be losing, with or without MJ. It’s worth going to GP for check up if you aren’t, as that is concerning.

Otherwise check you TDEE, make sure you are eating enough (less than 1200 for most people means your body holds onto fat). Make sure your calories are balanced so mostly from protein and fibre, not too many carbs etc.

I was prescribed Mounjaro by my GP because i have type 2 diabetes and I'm dangerously overweight. Whilst on 2.5 I managed to lose 9kg over two months - not the amazing results I was reading other people were having, but I was happy. I went up to 5mg and the good effects started to wear off. The dosage has now been increased to 7.5, but screwups between the surgery and pharmacy meant I've been on 5mg for another couple of months. I'm desperate! I've changed my diet when I first started off on MJ, mainly portion sizes, as I was already eating home made healthy meals; I stopped drinking alcohol. Now I feel hungry all the time! Like before. I eat loads of fruit during the day, to try and 'feed' the hunger, but I feel down. I've not given up yet. This is the first time I read about someone having the same issue as I have, of the drug not working anymore! I feel your pain! Hopefully something will change!

How much protein are you eating? Fruit doesn’t fill you up much, but protein will. Low carb and high protein is the best for natural satiety. While you wait for the prescription stuff to sort itself out.
