Is anyone else planning to stick with Mounjaro?

I’ve seen a lot about people who are switching to wegovy or coming off, but does anyone else plan to stick with MJ for the time being?

I’m waiting for Oushk to confirm their pricing but it looks like I’ll be able to afford it - I’ll have to cut back from some other areas to make it comfortable but I should be okay. So even medium term, I do plan to stay on. I’ve got about 5 stone left to lose I think, and I’ve lost 7 stone 3.7lbs on it so far. So I feel quite reluctant to mess with a good thing! But is there anyone else sticking with it? I’m suddenly getting horror visions of nobody stocking it because there’s no demand!

@neveroutofthekitchen I dread t think how much I've spent on diets/weight loss products over the years 😬😬😬

I do get side effects on MJ and have considered swapping to see if I don't react so badly to wegovy. But I'm actually doing well and losing weight on MJ, so I'm going to stay on it for the time being.

And the 4 week period without drugs while changing also puts me off

They've changed it so it's only a one week "wash out" period to swap to Wegovy.

It was 5 weeks when I moved the other way (from Wegovy to MJ)

BerfyTigot · 20/08/2025 08:54

Oh wow! Thanks @Crunchymum - that might sway my decision 🤔

bluestand · 20/08/2025 09:03

Yes, I’ll be sticking with it. I was a bit concerned with the initial reports suggesting 5mg could go up to £350 but even then I worked out the cost if I was to stay on it for another 6 months and decided it’s worth it. That’s a privileged position I know, but for me, it’s the only thing that’s worked and the alternative is to get fatter and slide into some of the fat related diseases that have plagued my family. I’d pay a month’s wages to avoid some of that misery.

1clavdivs · 20/08/2025 09:43

I think I might. I’ve got enough to make a final push to get the last few pounds off (it’s taking forever) and then titrate down from 12.5 to 5 over a couple of months. If I can maintain on 5, I’ll stick with it as it remains affordable. If I need higher, I’ll have to look to switching.

PurpleChrayn · 20/08/2025 09:45

Just before the price raise was announced I had ordered 7.5mg. I’m planning to take it as 5mg doses and then go back down to 5mg for the foreseeable future. I have about 10kg left to lose and I would like to stay on a maintenance dose. I’m willing to go without other stuff to afford it.

Yes I’m in a very lucky position right now to be able to keep affording it, but my alternative is to end up like my aunt, who’s 60 and so disabled by her weight that she gave up work in her mid 40s.

narkyspirit · 20/08/2025 10:35

I began the Mounjaro journey back in February and have lost 17.3 Kg (38 lbs) current dose is 10mg with next pen due to arrive on Friday.. I had planned after this next pen to begin titrating down over the following 3/4 months to 2.5 and then dropping it completely.

I would like to get down from current 78.6 kg to around 70Kg which will give a BMI of 27 so still in the overweight category but a weight that I will be comfortable at especially since that last time I was 70kg would have been about 30 years ago!

I can afford to continue but am waiting to see what prices will be from September onwards. Current provider is Human who aren't the cheapest!! I will look to change provider whilst BMI is still just over 30 (30.2 at the moment)

BerfyTigot · 20/08/2025 13:20

Like a pp, I'm willing to forgo treats so that i can afford to stay on it.

Food bill has gone down 👍

Yes agree. All the women on one side of my family have battled with their weight. I have pictures of my great granny too who was also a large lady. They all, including my mum died of health issues which were undoubtedly made worse by excess weight. I think when you put it into a ‘life or death’ sort of context, it helps to make the decision.

But then again I know that for many people who already made big sacrifices to afford the original pricing, that’s just going to be too much.

Depending on your prescribing history with Mounjaro, you might not need to start on the lowest Wegovy dose and titrate up slowly either, which could save potentially having a month or two of reduced GLP-1 effects.

Is anyone else planning to stick with Mounjaro?
Goatblu · 20/08/2025 17:14

Not after the increases, no. I'm nearly at goal and intended to move down through the doses for maintenance gradually over the coming months but I'll have to change tactic now. I've got 2x15ml pens to use then I'll have to do without.

For me it’s both men and women on my mum’s side, and I take after her! I want to get ahead of the issue

I'm not sure I'll be able to afford it, but I'm wary to switch to wegovy. Need to do some more research

Titasaducksarse · 20/08/2025 17:36

Im planning to stay on it. Over half way in my journey and think by end of the year I'll be at goal.

spanieleyes · 20/08/2025 17:39

Yes, I’m going to try to keep on going. Ive lost 6 stone but have another 3 to go, so plenty of scope yet! I’m relatively lucky because I’m OK on 5ml, so will stick at that. I’m also going to use the Golden dose, which I haven’t done so far, and might TRY to stretch it to 8 days between injections!

Mrsmunchofmunchington · 20/08/2025 18:27

Rightangled are really pushing people to change to wegovy. They sent out a generic email about switching to what they title “The Obvious Alternative” without actually saying wegovy which was odd.
Then another email offering a bundle of three wegovy pens for about £300, and another offering higher dose wegovy for higher dose mounjaro patients.
(I don’t use rightangled personally, a friend showed me these emails)

Crunchymum · 20/08/2025 18:56

There's definitely a push for Wegovy. I'm with Simple Online Pharmacy and they have a FAQ about the price increase which is all about moving to Wegovy. Previous suppliers have also emailed me about moving over to Wegovy. I guess they are worried about taking a loss if users all stop MJ en masse.

I've already been there and done that with Wegovy (wasn't effective at all) so I'm sticking with MJ.

TidyDancer · 20/08/2025 19:21

I’m staying on it. I’m lucky that I can afford it and the prices that are coming out from my pharmacy are doable anyway. I’ve lost nearly 6 stone so far and got another 5-6stone to go so not even close to target yet. This is the only thing that’s ever worked for me so as much as I despise what Lilly have done over this, I’m not jeopardising my weight loss in order to take a stand.

Ezzalouxoxo · 20/08/2025 22:05

I’m thinking of swapping to wegovy, I’m honestly so shocked at the price rises and don’t think I can afford to stay on mounjaro, I looked on some comparison sites (my fave was igovy for some reason it’s so much easier to use) and the price difference it so persuasive. Anyone else pushed to swap due to prices ?

I do find the push to change quite cynical

Yep, planning on sticking with MJ. Not too much more to lose and am going to micro dose (I understand and am happy with the risks) but figured this way the weekly cost wasn’t much different to Wegovy as from what I gather there is just the 4 week’s worth of product in the pen. With Voy so one of the pricier providers but they aren’t putting their prices up until mid September so hoping to order one more before then and be done 🤞🏻

Rightangled are now making customers who ordered, paid and were approved for mounjaro switch to wegovy or else agree to pay the post September 1st high prices (which they have not decided yet) blind.
If you want to cancel they will only offer a credit note and they deduct £10 as well.
Terrible behaviour!

I’d be reporting them to the pharmaceutical council for that. Absolutely abhorrent behaviour
