Weird things people have said when they’ve noticed you’ve lost weight?

I’m still early on in my MJ journey but have lost 1.5 stone and just this week people have started to notice.

I wore a dress to work and I suppose me not wearing a baggy top was a surprise. I walked past a colleague and he started by saying ‘oh you’ve lost we…’ and you could almost hear the cogs in his brain whirring as he decided if that was appropriate or not. He changed it to ‘err…nice shoes’. 😂

But the strange one which made me think was a friend who said to me, ‘you’ll be a different person’. Err no, I really won’t! I will still be me.

Have you had any weird or awkward comments?

"your looking good, please tell me your not on those silly injections are you?"

"yes I am thanks for asking"

PurpleCoo · 16/08/2025 18:07

I have had a lot of people say very excitedly that I am so tanned and look absolutely glowing. I always get comments on my tan, because I go brown on the first day the sun shines in March. This is usually in the tone of voice of gentle and good natured pretend begrudgement, as in "oh my gosh, you tan so easily and such a good colour, I just go red". Now it's more like "wow, oh wow, just look at your tan". I'm literally the same brown I always go 🤦‍♀️😂

It's obvious what they are actually thinking but are being too polite to say. I don't mind, it makes me smile

Yes, I’m nursing my mother at the moment and I’ve currently lost 18lbs in 6 weeks. It’s noticeable now. I was at a friends house for a BBQ and she thinks I’m starving myself because I’m too stressed or busy to eat. Keeps trying to force feed me burgers and hotdogs. Her husband said aw don’t be a skinny boring girlie. Weird. Ok sure I’ll just be the fat butt of your jokes instead, will that do?

'Ooh you've lost so much weight. You're not ill,are you?' From my neighbour.

usedtobeaylis · 16/08/2025 18:27

Someone said I look 'absolutely tiny' - I'm still 3 stone overweight, nothing about me is tiny 😆

Mysticmaiden · 16/08/2025 20:31

"You're looking a lot slimmer these days" "you need to stop losing weight now or you'll disappear" "you should stop now because its dangerous isn't it?" "you're disappearing" (from 2 completely different people) "are you going to stop now and just exercise" "you look like a teenager" "you look younger than my daughter who is 29"
"wow look at you, you look great!" "Do you think? Thanks ive lost over 3st" You're not on those stupid injections are you?" "Yes I am" "they're really dangerous though. All the young girls are on them and they don't even need them" "I was prediabetic" "oh well at least they're made for you, not like all those taking them away from the diabetics". I'm 43 and bmi 24.2, also apple shaped so still have a big belly.

I’d have been so tempted to reply with “Yes actually, thanks for bringing it up.”

Loads of that!! My mum then told me my face would droop off. Ta.

citychick · 17/08/2025 09:36

"At least you've still got your boobs!"
Lol

Loulabelle1234 · 17/08/2025 09:37

When I lost weight I got told I'd gone too far......I'm at the top end of my healthy BMI so hardly!!!

Doone22 · 17/08/2025 09:45

Which is exactly why I never comment on other people's bodies further than a compliment on something beautiful they're wearing, an attractive bit of jewellery, new hairstyle, or just saying you're looking well.

CharDee · 17/08/2025 09:52

Well done on your weight loss!

I have lost 5 stone so far with mj and have another 2 to go. Had friends (well, DH’s friends but were all close and they’re my friends too!) over to watch football on Friday evening. I was sat down when one came in and we had a little chat then both stood up to go in to the other room. He turned back to me and literally stopped in his tracks and said “What the fuck? Where have you gone?”

Another friend was looking at me and I could tell he had something to say but had no idea what about. I asked if he was ok and he said “I don't know how to say this. Erm, weight? Down? Lots? Yes?” I just laughed and said “Yes, my weight is down lots.”

After about 2 stone another mum said “You’re looking really well. So glad you’re having injections and are actually putting the work in.” I just said I was doing both and felt amazing!

SecretNameAsImShy · 17/08/2025 09:58

All of the above. I don’t mind most of them apart from the ones telling me that I am skinny now and need to stop! Still nearly 2st to go. My BMI is 27.9 and I want it to be 24 so not eating disorder territory!

onlymethen · 17/08/2025 10:01

Friend said “poor you your bum has disappeared”. I’m late 50s think I’ll go with the flat bum for the good of my health. On a side note all of my siblings have flat bums.

Some people get so sensitive about no longer being able to feel superior to the fat person…

SquishyGloopyBum · 17/08/2025 10:11

I’ve told a select few people that I’m on mounjaro and they have all been very complimentary and supportive.

Ive not had anyone say anything to me about weight loss who doesn’t know. Not a sausage (even a you look well type comment).

I was at the beach last week with family. My mother was saying how slender my sister is looking (also secretly on the jabs) but nothing to me. I’ve lost 2.5stone! My sister has lost a stone (been on it less time and less to lose).

Me and my sister just laugh about it to be honest.

AmythestBangle · 17/08/2025 10:19

My daughter: "you look fantastic "
Versus
A male friend (at said daughter's wedding, very loudly in front of lots of people): "you look like you are DYING OF CANCER" (the last part actually shouted).
I don't btw. I actually still weigh a bit more than when he first met me 20 years ago.

Penguinsmum · 17/08/2025 10:31

My parents say my body is like a child!!! It's not, I am BMI 22 happy and healthy with boobs and hips!

cat1886 · 17/08/2025 10:44

I’ve lost 5 stone and a family member, who also struggles with weight and is currently on the larger side told me I need to be careful as my face will go scraggy!! Thanks for that!!

Wowzel · 17/08/2025 10:51

My boss was asked by another colleague if I was dying of cancer!

Mewling · 17/08/2025 10:52

Fucking Hell. 😩😅

MzHz · 17/08/2025 10:53

After 3st loss (out of current 5st loss)

”don’t lose any more weight from your face”

Honestly, not a sausage out of anyone about my weigh loss until I was past 3.5stone lost. My target was to lose 6st which puts me in the middle of the healthy BMI range. I’m a stone away from target.

if your sis has less to lose, the change will be more noticeable

keep on going, you will get there! <high five>

QueenBeyNot · 17/08/2025 11:03

I was just about to start a thread on this!

“I’m sorry for having lost weight I guess?” - Is that what people would like me to say?

I’ve lost around 7 stone since I started, haven’t seen a lot of extended family in that time as the journey has coincided with being extremely busy with work etc and at a funeral this week I overheard a second cousin refer to me as “stuck up” because I had said I’d found being on MJ pretty easy and I felt really lucky I haven’t had many side effects at all.

I’m often told to be careful too, funny how no one told me to be careful when I was piling on the weight.

BySassyGreenPanda · 17/08/2025 11:08

One friend commented on my weight loss by saying, ''Yes, I'd noticed you'd put a lot of weight on a couple of years ago''

Great, thanks. A simple 'you look lovely' or 'well done' would have sufficed but we all know you'll almost never hear that 🙄
