Anyone swapped from Mounjaro to Wegovy?

JamPotJenny · 15/08/2025 17:10

I’ve reached my target weight loss of 5 stone after exactly year on Mounjaro. I feel amazing. I have no
aches in my joints at all and I am
simply moving around and sleeping so much better. As with everyone else, the hefty price increases are worrying me a great deal. My next order I was planning the steady titration down (on 15mg) but I’ve already had a warning email from MedExpress explaining the price increases.

wegovy is cheaper but I have no idea if I can swap, or if I’ll even qualify now that I’m 9 stone. Is it the same preparation?

alternatively is it cheaper to buy a vial and syringes? Avoiding the pen? Is this doable?

i know we’re all in the same boat here. It’s saddening.

Oushk said last night 1 week washout, they will switch those already on maintenance with them and they will assess which Wegovy dose to start on depending on MJ prescribing/medical history and followed up today with information as they expect many to change.

So yes it is possible, to swap depending on your provider.

Only buy from a safe GPhC register pharmacy. I don't know Wegovy, but I didn't think it was available in vials in the UK?

Prettychubster · 15/08/2025 17:53

Yes I switched from Mounjaro to Wegovy.

The side effects from MJ were too much for me so I quit it after 6 months.

Last month tried Wegovy and was sick as a dog after one dose!

So I currently have a pen in my fridge that has 3 doses left in it and will likely go in the bin! I just can't seem to deal with them in my system. Such a shame 😥

Oh really sorry to hear that @Prettychubster. I also have horrendous tummy pain, vomiting (not every dose) and diarrhoea.

Well done for persevering for 6 months! I've just ordered 2 more pens but I'm considering swapping to wegovy to avoid or lessen the side effects. I know everyone's different, but did you find that they were reduced at all on Wegovy compared to MJ?

JamPotJenny · 16/08/2025 09:33

I’ve been lucky with side effects apart from one time I thought I had Norovirus but which was in hindsight the injection. I’ve taken this year as a chance to totally over-haul by diet and lifestyle - explored new recipes and eaten new foods. Eliminated sugar by about 90% and as a results, my body has really benefitted.

Until I had the email from MedExpress and came here to look, I didn’t see this coming at all. Gutted beyond words.

I’m having problems logging into MedExpress this morning - as if their server is crashing. Anyone else the same?

I was actually on wegovy and switched to mounjaro as mounjaro was significantly cheaper (beginning of year)!!! Haven't had any weight loss on mounjaro, just maintenance so feel wegovy suited me better - might need to switch back now but nervous of another switch! Luckily (!) Had just bought another month of mounjaro before price increase was announced this week so have a month to go before having to decide.

Nunenco · 16/08/2025 11:45

Looks like I will be needing a new supplier as Asda are still saying the wash out period is a month. Still have 3 weeks worth of MJ but don’t want to leave it too late to order so I get new meds on time. Will give it a week and see what happens with the new prices Does anyone have a supplier who is reasonably priced and reliable? Ideally not one that asks for loads of photos etc..

JamPotJenny · 17/08/2025 01:10

I’ve been refused further treatment from 2 suppliers. There was no where for me to state that I want to start titrating down the dosage as I’m very close to my goal weight.

How tall are? You're at a good healthy weight anymore borders on eating disorder territory. I think you need to stop and think about what you are doing. You would be better off spending your money on a nutritionist who can help you. Listen to the pharmacist there is a reason why they won't prescribe it to you.

That’s a bit much really, you’ve no idea her height or ethnicity so claiming if she goes lower borders on eating disorder is bang out of line, she also didn’t ask how to spend her money. Now yes there could be a reason why she’s getting a no but she’s been clear the issue is titration,

op, why not email the pharmacies and explain, you don’t need to onky use the form.

Ethnicity has nothing to do with it and you boldly say that without knowing my ethnicity or culture. She said she is 9 stone and pharmacists are turning her away talk to them and tell them how out of order they are for not taking her money.😢🙄

are you anti WLI generally, or just people titrating down the doses when they near their goal weight?

And ethnicity is relevant when discussing BMI. OP’s, not yours 🙄

It's a different opinion to yours she can do it on her own she has shown herself that. If she is still eating the same and exercising why does she need to stay on it. The drug has given her what she needs. It's changed her mindset and helped her eat healthier. Why does she need it?

A doctor once told me she had the growth gene and she was a thin lady. It's what you eat and for how long. Food is also an addiction as well as drugs and alcohol. Has the op not overcome her addiction?

The WLIs actually help to combat addiction. They're being studied for use with alcoholics and drug users for that very reason.

It's the mind you have to conquer the booze and drugs blank it out.

But these drugs literally help you to break an addiction while you're using them. If you can't conquer your mind without help, what's wrong with using drugs that will do it for you?

Nothing it's okay to use drugs to help you but it's not made for long term use. It's like swapping one addiction for another.

But, it is made and has been tested for long-term use, and a maintenance dose is totally permitted. Sure, it would be better if people could manage without it, but many will not be able to, and that's perfectly okay.

Where did you get that from? Mounjaro is absolutely made for long term use. Maybe find about a bit more about it before making pronouncements that are 100% wrong. Otherwise you just end up looking like a bit of a tit.

Has the op tried to manage without it? She should at least try and if she slips then go back on it at 2.5mg to maintain her weight. I would encourage anyone to go without it first before doubting themselves. She maybe okay or she may not. How will she know if she doesn't try.

Maaate · 18/08/2025 12:43

GLP1 medications top-up a bodies natural level of hormones which help control hunger and food transit.

Some people need a permanent top up to maintain their current hunger/weight and there's nothing wrong with that.

This is on top of the other reported positive effects of taking GLP1s besides damping down the hunger response

Huh? Firstly in relation to your earlier post, ethnicity has everything to do with bmi, google it and read up if you don’t know. And the drugs are also made for long term use, they are effectively a life time treatment, and approved for life time usage, honestly it is better to spend some time educating yourself if you don’t know.

and again, she didn’t ask opinions on if she should continue, I am sure she’s an adult woman who knows what she’s doing and can make decisions for herself. The refusals she is saying are due to the way she’s applying v the consultation form.

What why should she try, she will know her own body and why are you dictating what she should do and on what dosage, and you were not asked? I’m very uncertain about why you’re trying to give this woman advice she didn’t ask for and doing so from a position of poor knowledge.
