Devastated at Mounjaro prices increases!

I’ve been on MJ for nearly a year. Gone from BMI of 42.5 to 39. However, the improvements in my Crohn’s disease and inflammatory arthritis have been the main benefit to me! My Crohn’s has never been better, I am no longer panicking about where the nearest toilet is, and can, for the first time in years, eat fresh high fibre foods without it affecting me badly! My joint swelling goes down linked to when I inject, with swelling and pain increasing again prior to the next dose.

i cannot get the drug on the NHS as it’s not licensed for my conditions, and sadly looks like I will have to stop once the manufacturer price increase kicks in on 1 September.

So, try another way to lose weight, or another medicine.

sandwichsue · 14/08/2025 20:56

My daughter is in exactly the same situation. Her Crohns in in such good remission that she is hoping
to stop her biological soon. Her gastro Doc refuses to believe it’s mounjaro and so when price goes up she will either have to absorb it or abandon ship. Hugs to you xxx

Radiowaawaa · 14/08/2025 20:56

There’s a thread on WLI section where people are sharing the same concerns with info.

This is me! I was going to discuss dropping my biologic at my next appt. Have already halved it (gone from once a week to once a fortnight). Honestly, I don’t know what I will do, I have finally got my life back and can enjoy it, and now this!

Thanks for such a helpful response. I am already on biologic medication (immune suppression) and went through a few diff ones before the one I am on. The weight is coming off because for the first time in 15 years I can actually eat high fibre balanced diet instead of a beige, low fibre diet that was previously the only diet that made my crohns manageable

Can you afford to stock up now while the prices are lower? All the websites are overloaded just now, I’m going to try again in the morning! I’m just hoping after the prices go up and everyone stops buying it, the pharmacies will realise they can’t afford to lose us and find a way to discount them.

I am going to do the maths in the morning and see if I can..

It’s not as simple as that, people are getting health benefits due to the the actual drug, not just the weight loss. Improvement in gastric conditions such as crohns is one example, my DP had a complete resolve of IBS, even if food that were previously triggers were eaten.

TheShyMumX · 14/08/2025 21:40

slightly off topic @missy111
I have Crohns and have considered WLI but was worried it wouldn’t be approved due having the condition and being on biologic meds!!
where do you get yours and were you truthful when filling in the initial questionnaire?

Mine has already increased prices this evening… I only reordered Monday!

But surely they can’t implement the increase till the Ist of September?

They can charge what they choose surely like any retailer. Profiteering maybe but there's nothing to stop them is there?

In this instance I’m not so sure. The changes are due to apply from the 1st of September and surely if suppliers are already charging more then there must be a case for Trading Standards to look into.

As it is I’ve been very tearful since yesterday. I can afford the extra cost till I’m off Mounjaro in December and I can only imagine how I’d feel, and how others must be feeling right now, if I was just a few weeks into my journey instead of being at the end of it. I’m just so sorry and sad for all of the people out there whose dreams for the future have come crashing down round about them.

Ilovethewild · 15/08/2025 07:57

My provider has announced limited stock and urged people not to bulk buy as once current stock sold, new stock will be at new prices.

so within a few hours providers are making plans.

i suspect people will bulk it out and buy large doses to micro dose.

Ive been on it for a year (took 4 months off), lost 5st but have 4 more to loose. I could stretch the £150om or so, but £300? Not sure il manage that.
im still overweight so really don’t wanna stop. Saddened by the news that cashing in on weight has won again

I don't know if perhaps there are some specific rules that apply to pharmacies (probably not) but in general retailers can charge whatever they like, the price they pay the supplier doesn't determine what they charge the customer although obviously they want to make a profit

Unless I've misunderstood the issue here is to do with the prices charged by the manufacturer not anything to do with retailers

I agree.

They’ve bought stock at a particular price, which is going to increase in September.

They can charge their customers whatever they like. It’s not tied specifically to the price they paid in a way where it can’t increase until the supplier price increases.

It might lose them customers due to cost, and due to loss of customer loyalty. But they can charge what they like.

Curely - they even removed the discounts for first / subscription & repeat orders!
Wouldn’t care it’s my 1st 5mg pen too - I’m only going up from 2.5 - 3.75mg. Been using it since May, PCOS & only thing that has helped me - I put weight on through weight watchers🙈🤣

They have! I just thought I’d check to see if there was a note on their website. Nothing, not even a mention but as I’ve just reordered I could see the £ difference

Awful news.

TwinklyRoseTurtle · 15/08/2025 09:57

I feel the same- had an email off Medexpress to inform of same this morning. I have lost just u see 4 stone since January but remarkably I have an autoimmune disease and it’s halved my inflammatory markers when they wouldn’t budge before. I have a full pen in the fridge- will order another one next week when due before sept but I am thinking of starting wegovy- Medexpress mentioned in email it’s an option and as still a glp1 I’m guessing it will still work- looking at studies it’s 3% overall less effective than Mounjaro so with Mounjaro you lose upto 20% weightloss and wegovy 17%. I still have another 4 stone to go ideally although I do feel great now so I may give that a try. Hoping I can get it off my GP soon due to my conditions just not available for me yet.

businessflop25 · 15/08/2025 10:00

I’m absolutely broken by this news. I was only just affording it as it was. Stretching the Doses to make each pen last 6 weeks. It will now be completely out of reach. I’m so done with being like this. Honestly I don’t know what the point is anymore.
