I’m due to start and I’ve stocked up on vitamins, magnesium, pepto bismal, clear whey etc etc.
Im also thinking of doing a food box delivery for the first month like Mindful chef so that meals for the family are planned out in case I just can’t face food planning. Did anyone else do this or think it’s a good idea or maybe not necessary? I’d be interested in other people’s ideas or opinions!

Bought some fibre gummies and that was it! I knew I was eating the right sort of stuff already, I wasn’t gaining weight I just couldn’t manage the restriction. 4 stone down, off the drugs and keeping it off so far. Good luck.

SilenceInside · 11/08/2025 11:17

I spent the week waiting for the delivery of the first pen eating as well as I could, in a traditional "diet" with a calorie deficit. That was pretty much it. I always meal plan for family meals anyway, and I just ate less and quickly learnt to prep less as I wasn't eating anywhere near as much as I was before.

SilenceInside · 11/08/2025 11:20

Sorry, just realised I didn't actually answer your question.... no I don't think you need to organise anything like a Mindful Chef delivery, unless you fancy it for a change and your family will eat it. You can just do what you usually do for your family, surely. Mounjaro has never put me off meal planning.

GiveMeWordGames · 11/08/2025 11:48

I think Mindful Chef is a good idea to have on standby in case you really can't be arsed with meal planning. I would give yourself a bit of time on MJ first, though, to figure out how and what you want to eat, and if there are any foods which particularly trigger side effects, as this is different for everyone.

MJalltheway · 11/08/2025 11:52

Didn't really do anything! I haven't ever had any side effects so never needed pepto-bismal or anything like that.
we've used food delivery boxes on and off for years anyway but I did switch to Green Chef who do some nice high-protein/low carb ones.
I'm 6 months in now and down almost 4 stone.

Bananaramram · 11/08/2025 11:54

Before I went on MJ I worked with a nutritional therapist for six months to work through a lot of the issues I have with food, so that this can be a long term fix (and so I keep the weight off).

I also ate all the Christmas chocolate that was left over as I started just after New Year’s

Wishe · 11/08/2025 12:06

If I could afford one of the meal prep services I would totally do it! I often have zero interest in food and the fatigue can be bad so resort to a lot of pre prepared things or just random things that I can face eating at the time on a plate. So while I'm hitting my nutrient goals I can't face making proper meals every day.

I'd say make sure you have a good understanding of your calorie requirements. Learn about tdee, bmr, etc. Consider your nutrition goals as well as your calorie goals - how much fibre/protein to aim for each day. You're going to need to fuel your body in the most nutritious way possible not just the lowest calories.

LaGioiosanotLeviosa · 11/08/2025 13:40

Thanks all for your messages! I should probably have said that I completely know about what my calories should be and nutrition etc and don’t have a problem with macros etc it’s just been able to keep up with the restrictions once I hit a plateau in the past that’s been demoralising!!!
Hoping this will push me past those plateaus without getting despondent 😂
I think that knowledge from the past of eating well whilst exercising was what was making me think I need to prep as much as I can to get in the correct protein and fibre amounts I guess?
Good to hear that other people didn’t really need to though, maybe I won’t bother and just play it by ear?

Absolutely nothing!

Honestly, you really don’t need to do anything at all except be aware of how your body is responding and tailor your diet/ water consumption towards that.

TreesOfGreen99 · 11/08/2025 16:48

Download the free Shotsy App to keep record of your jabs, and track the MJ in your system.
plus a calorie tracker. I use MyNetDiary but there are lots of different ones available.

Fybogel or Psyllium husk tablets for added fibre are good for those days when everything feels sluggish.

Finally join the August group on the WLI. Board for support on the journey

chowmeinz · 11/08/2025 16:50

I bought better food when I went shopping but that’s it. I have never used a supplement or pepto in the whole 9 months I have been on MJ. Just good healthy food every most of the time

MJalltheway · 11/08/2025 22:06

Actually I know what I wish I'd done and that's to do a body scan with an app like me360. I took photos and measurements but it would have been nice to measure progress that way too.

Thelessdeceived · 11/08/2025 22:19

I had some items at the ready to quell nausea- only really needed them for a few days and haven’t had it since. Ginger tea and cordial and some Melba toasts. I also find I need to eat a good amount of protein first in a meal as I get full so quickly.9

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 11/08/2025 22:23

Not quite intentionally but in retrospect what helped -

  • I moved to UPF free eating and obsessively read Ultra Processed People and watched everything by Chris Van Tulleken!
  • I'd already had Trauma counselling. *I'd already read a few books on binge eating / intuitive eating/etc.

All this has meant that with mounjaro I was able to put into practice what I've wanted to for a long time!

I started walking a couple of months in and have built that up. Not lots by many people's standards but lots by mine!

Good luck ❤️.

ChangingWeight · 12/08/2025 00:04

I didn’t do any preparation aside from get a gym membership. You don’t need all that other stuff.

Lazygardener · 12/08/2025 07:16

Nothing really. I haven’t taken any supplements and just use a laxative on the occasion I have been constipated. I haven’t considered macros, protein or water consumption, and I haven’t counted calories, just eaten less. My progress has been slow and steady until now, with the last stone to go, where I might have to count calories to shift the weight.

TootieFrooties · 12/08/2025 07:20

I haven’t had any side effects at all but I did join a gym at the same time I got my first pen, for the first time ever, and I’m going three to four times a week just for half an hour.

As I have decided to just got for thirty minutes I have found it really easy to stick to.

threeeggsontoast · 12/08/2025 07:39

I ate really ‘clean’ for a few days beforehand, lots of veg and salad and protein. I also stocked up on Pepto, electrolytes and a few other over the counter meds. In the end, I didn’t need any meds as apart from constipation and the occasional short wave of feeling ‘bleurgh’, I’ve been absolutely fine.

I didn’t stock up on special foods beforehand as I wanted to see what I fancied once the jab kicked in. Even on 2.5mg, I started to feel the effects the next day. I was at a work buffet and foolishly ate everything on my plate without thinking. Within 10 mins, it felt like I’d swallowed a brick. I had some peppermint tea and it passed but I’ve avoided eating like that since. I now just stick to good protein and veg, salad etc.

But in short, I worried a lot beforehand but I really didn’t need to. I think bad side effects are very rare. Most are very manageable with some over the counter meds.

Ozgirl76 · 12/08/2025 07:46

I didn’t do anything and it was fine. I only had some mild nausea but nothing that stopped me doing anything, and it was only for a day or so.
I do meal plan quite carefully because even now, nearly 11 months in, I’m eating considerably less and so I have to make sure I eat enough protein, fats etc.

VelociraptorsVelociRapping · 12/08/2025 11:29

Honestly, nothing. Everyone responds so differently to the drug that it's impossible to be prepared for every eventuality.

My only advice would be not to procrastinate and just do it.

Lovinglifeand · 12/08/2025 14:29

I'm a bit obsessive and so prepared for everything I could and haven't had a single side effect. I heard that constipation/diarrhoea can be an issue so bought 'biomel' gut powder to make into a smoothie each morning. I also add protein powder to increase my protein intake to prevent muscle loss and collagen powder and a teaspoon of chia seeds. I also drink a least a couple of litres of water more than I used to throughout the day and always have a drink with me. I haven't had any digestion issues at all and I think it's this combination that has worked for me.
Mindful chef is an excellent idea as it is healthy food that you can also eat while taking the jabs. I stocked up the freezer before starting with homemade lasagnes, curries etc for the rest of the family for days that I'm not interested in food and quite happy to just eat salad, cottage cheese and seeds for dinner. I find I'm just not particularly interested in food any more so just want to eat small amounts of something high protein and healthy.
Last of all, best of luck, I hope your journey is a smooth one!

voiceofme · 12/08/2025 14:47

Snap a few "before" pics now, jot down your measurements too

StressedEric · 12/08/2025 14:52

I made sure I was drinking at least 2l of water a day including electrolytes daily . I began tracking calories via MFP , reducing carbs and focussing on protein the day of my first shot . 7 stone down now

timestressed · 12/08/2025 18:27

Started tracking my meals in Nutracheckfor fibre and protein, and eating salad at the beginning of most meals.

HeidiNotSoHeavy · 12/08/2025 18:36

bought a set of heavier weights
