Whitehorses67 · 06/08/2025 07:00

Has anybody heard much about this new weight loss drug from eli lily?
I was told about it yesterday by a friend who is a pharmacist so came home and did a bit of reading.

Apparently it is more effective than mounjaro in clinical studies with users losing more weight in a shorter period.

Likely to be available in 2027.

I find it very encouraging to hear that other drugs are coming along.

Hopefully this will drive down cost and increase availability to those who really need it.
May also help the 15% of people who don’t find mounjaro effective.

I was reading about this recently. It does seem to be slightly more effective than Mounjaro in clinical trials. It seems to have similar side effects.
I think 2027 is the earliest it is likely to be available in the UK - and that depends on it passing all the trial checks and getting approval. Hopefully, I'll be at target by then but it's an interesting development.
What I'd like to see is a tablet alternative that actually works which I think would be great for maintenance. But interesting to see how the WLI are evolving in trials.

Itscoldouthere · 06/08/2025 09:09

@Whitehorses67 If you are on Instagram follow susanbrianmd she’s an American Dr and endocrinologist, she talks about all the latest studies, trials and papers on GLP1, so much going on in this area, I find it very interesting.

SecretSquirrel703 · 06/08/2025 10:43

Our GP pharmacist is an advocate for WLI & has followed their development for a few years. I don't know the name but he said a tablet form of something similar to MJ is expected to be available next year, with lots of others coming through in the following 5 years. It's a change in medication of epic proportions, really groundbreaking, he was quite excited talking about it.

SilenceInside · 06/08/2025 10:54

There’s a tablet GLP-1 from Eli Lilly called orforglipron that’s currently being tested for T2 diabetes. It also produces weight loss at about the same rate as semaglutide. I don’t know if that will be available for weight loss next year, but it may be available soon for T2 diabetics.

WeAllHaveWings · 06/08/2025 13:57

More effective weight loss in a shorter period is not always "better". I personally don't want to lose more faster, it will be beneficial for some for have not responded to Mounjaro, or have gone through all the doses and Mounjaro is no longer giving benefit.

Similar loss at a lower dose/cost/less side effects would be very interesting.

As it is coming from Eli Lilly I would suspect the price point will be higher as it will be marketed for the possibly higher benefit of more weight loss for those who haven't responded to/no longer respond to Wegovy, Mounjaro.

TheHandmaidsSnail · 06/08/2025 15:16

DS has a mate on it, god alone knows where he bought it, two stone down in 2 months. I hope they get it out and properly regulated soon

Doristheclitoris · 06/08/2025 15:23

Worrying really tbh. I don’t think anyone needs to be losing ‘more weight in a shorter time’ - obviously I’m no expert, but given the experts usually advise 1-2lbs a week as being a safe and sustainable way to lose weight, it’s reasonable to be cautious imo

I think it is fair to say whatever your ds's mate is on it is not Retatrutide.

I have a friend who has been taking part in a tablet trial. Diabetic. It wasn’t confirmed if he was on the real deal or a placebo but he has lost loads of weight and has now been told to try and put weight on!

CoastalCalm · 06/08/2025 16:19

It’s being sold online , no idea how but I’ve seen it a few times on TikTok

CoastalCalm · 06/08/2025 16:21

Apparently it’s legal to sell as it’s a research chemical ?

SilenceInside · 06/08/2025 16:28

It's not legal to sell an unapproved prescription-only medication in the UK, via TikTok. Even if you say it's for "research".

@CoastalCalm people can say anything they want on tiktok to make money off the hard of thinking.

Maybe it will bring the price of mounjaro down a bit. We can hope!

SecretSquirrel703 · 08/08/2025 10:50

in the news this morning, may be useful for maintenance as slower loss rate?

Hi, I’m on this and I find it amazing. I’ve lost 20lbs in 4 weeks. But no side effects part from sweating quite abit so you need to make sure you drink lots. But I love it! Best thing I’ve ever done. Allows you to create a healthy lifestyle without those cravings. Towards the end of the week o can feel those cravings coming back but because of the weight I’ve lost I really don’t want it and personally make those choices not to have it. I went up to 5mg last week but all week I struggled to find something I wanted to eat so come back down to 2.5mg. But it’s really easy to use. Love it! Xxx

SilenceInside · 11/08/2025 21:01

@Demim1994 you’re taking retratrutide? Are you part of the clinical trial?

There seems to be no other posting history for Demim so I am not sure this is to be trusted.

Yeah, I’m aware, just wondering what this poster will claim about it.

gingercat02 · 11/08/2025 21:15

It is basically Tirzepatide (Mounjaro) with a glucagon inhibitor so, yes it should be more effective.
Prof Taylor who did all the work on VLCD and diabetes remission said the fast weight loss you get with VLCD or bariatric surgery is vital for fat loss from your liver and pancreas, which is what causes remission, not just external adipose loss.

JustPinkFinch · 11/08/2025 21:49

I'd love to see tablet form MJ for many reasons. Getting rid of the plastic kwikpen and associated sharps + bin. No worries about cold chain packaging. Presumably lower cost.

Does a swallowed medicine have more potential for stomach side effects though? I recall the Rybelsus threads and plenty of heartburn etc.

PurpleCoo · 11/08/2025 21:52

I don't think faster weight loss in a shorter space of time is a good thing at all, it carries so many risks. I've been trying not to lose weight too quickly on MJ to avoid this, and I've only just gone up to 6.25mg at 6 months in.

Blimey, MJ is rapid enough and I see so many concerning posts from people trying to lose weight as fast as they can, not thinking about the possible ramifications of doing so

LittleMissContrari · 11/08/2025 22:08

In type 2 diabetes / morbid obesity studies around fasting protocols, I remember the reporting often states that contrary to received wisdom rapid weightloss is preferable for health gains and successful maintenance.

Demim1994 · 12/08/2025 10:29

Hiya, sorry I don’t normally post on these things but I was interested if anyone had been on reta and had come off it and piled weight back on that’s when I found these post. Yeah I’m part of a clinical trial. I never took any other weight loss injections though this is the first one I’ve used. So I can’t compare to any other but I love reta it’s worked perfectly for me xxxxx
