Mounjaro Bum - has your bum disappeared?

I lost weight last year with MJ, came of it for personal reasons and started again 6 weeks ago. I have lost a total of 18kg, down to 10st 5lb, really happy with the weightloss and only a few more KGs to hit my target. But then.......

Yesterday I was getting changed after work and caught a glimpse of my derriere in the mirror and thought I had something stuck to it, under my bum cheek looked like a black line. On closer inspection I don't have much bum left all of a sudden. I've not done much exercising but make sure I get 10K ish steps in a day and i've been eating protein - not huge amounts but a decent portion. I had quite a nice bum before but now I feel like i need to go home and do 100 squats and lunges to build it back up

Has anyone else experienced this?

Yep my big bum has vanished and it was never nice. I do loads of walking and I do 30 squats a day. Hopefully my large belly will shrink the same way.

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 31/07/2025 14:03

Yep, bum has vanished here (well apart from the ‘melted candle’ like skin that remains!). I’ve trained pretty hard throughout and there’s a bit of muscle under there so we shall see what comes out of the ‘body recomp’ phase and the multitude of Bulgarian split squats!

We won’t talk about the boob situation…

OverlyFragrant · 31/07/2025 14:08

It did.
Shockingly fast too.
Obviously my lack of glute muscles were hidden under giant amounts of fat.
I've since been doing targeted exercises and it has improved somewhat.

wizzywig · 31/07/2025 14:09

Yep. Its depressing. Mine was like a bouncy ball and now it's average. I deserve my bum back

JustPinkFinch · 31/07/2025 14:11

It sounds like you didn't have strong glutes when you started MJ. If you want a bum now all the fat is gone, you've got to work your glutes. Walking/running is not going to build up glutes to any noticeable degree, unless you're tearing up steep hills and really focusing on powering your legs through your bum.

Glute activation exercises + squats are your best bet. Consistently building up the weight - you don't need a barbell you could use a kettlebell. Activation first is really important, as even if lifting heavy people tend to use other muscles (quads) over glutes. Loads of good videos on YouTube.

Thank you, I will take a look

My bum is flatter but it's still there because I do glute focused exercise. Walking and eating protein won't build muscle unfortunately

cramptramp · 31/07/2025 14:53

It’s nothing to do with Mounjaro and everything to do with losing weight quickly.

ohsososo · 31/07/2025 14:53

Any rapid weight loss will cause this. It’s because your bum was fat and not muscle so losing weight will mean a rapid loss of fat on your bum.

work hard on heavyweights doing hip thrusts, squats and kick backs.

HundredMilesAnHour · 31/07/2025 14:59

My bum is rapidly disappearing but that’s 99% down to me having to give up gym due to a disability. I’m making sure I do some squats at home every day to get my shape back (and keep my quads firm).

PrincessofWells · 31/07/2025 15:01

Cycling did wonders for mine, 20 - 30 miles twice a week

DBatteryBand · 31/07/2025 15:18

I'm delighted that mine has got smaller. I suppose in my youth we were all supposed to be aiming for the stick insect look, rather than the currently fashionable big arse look, so I'm pleased mine is vanishing. I shall be in the flat bum vanguard when fashion changes back!

PurpleCoo · 31/07/2025 16:14

Mine is shrinking, but proportionally. I have always had a very curvy bottom and large boobs with a comparatively small waist. Boobs are shrinking proportionally too.

I do a lot of exercise, body pump twice a week, 3 hours of swimming a week and about 12-15 hours of brisk walking a week (from clocks forward to clocks back at least). I think this really helps, as my legs and bottom are muscular

angelinawasrobbed · 31/07/2025 16:41

Like the Cheshire Cat’s smile, mine will be the last thing to go

Flat bunks were never in fashion 😂
small bums were but never flat arses. It was always small but perky bums. That impossible shape where you had to be thin but not have a scrawny arse. Saggy arses we’re always seen as old people’s arses

JustPinkFinch · 31/07/2025 17:28

Yes, definitely small defined bums in the 90s, not flat ones!

Glutes are needed for effective, functional movement. Having a flat arse may be a mobility risk, as the other muscles that overcompensate for our weak glutes start to injure. Bad back, hip pain, knee pain etc. Even body weight squats (if you are able) is better than nothing.

Womblingmerrily · 31/07/2025 17:56

When you lose weight sadly you don't just lose fat - you lose both muscle and fat, often quite a lot of muscle too.

It's partly why we regain weight - if you lose a lot of muscle then you lose metabolically active tissue, thus significantly reducing your BMR so that your calories needs are much lower than before.

If you regain weight it is often fat that is regained - so you end up with more fat and less muscle at the same/similar weight than before - again with a lower BMR than before.

So sadly your bums are victims of this.

Weight lifting, high protein diet may help restore your muscle tissue, but sadly it's a slow and tricky process, especially past menopause.

W0tnow · 31/07/2025 17:58

You can eat all the protein in the world but unless you’re doing resistance work your muscles won’t grow/will shrink.

TheHandmaidsSnail · 31/07/2025 17:59

Yes and actually if I sit on a firm chaor for too long the bones of my arse dig in so much it actually hurts, all my padding is gone.

CoastalCalm · 31/07/2025 18:03

I’ve always had a flat arse , all my weight is in my belly area

Divebar2021 · 31/07/2025 18:08

This is definitely me… I would go so far to say there is sag. Buying a swimsuit has been both great and disappointing from that regard. Tiny waist though so swings and roundabouts etc etc. Starting back in the gym after my holiday.

Branleuse · 31/07/2025 18:08

My bum is much smaller. Im fine with it, because previously every time I've lost weight, it's come off my face and chest first, and my bum and thighs stayed quite big.
On my, I feel like it's coming off in a more uniform way.

Mumofboys2006 · 31/07/2025 18:10

💯 yes!! Mine has disappeared too and I do work out quite a lot. Squats and lunges , running and cycling. I still have one but it’s noticeably smaller!

Ive found the weight loss on Mounjaro really odd. Usually my tummy would be the first place I’d lose weight as I’m generally pear shaped, but it hasn’t been this time. I’m about 7 weeks in now and have only recently noticed a slightly flatter tummy.

my other concern is my skin feels a lot less firm.

As I say, I’m a regular gym goer and also do Pilates weekly so I don’t think it’s just that!

I think I’ve lost over a stone so far.

I hope that’s a typo? 30 squats a day is not enough to make a difference. Our glutes muscles are the strongest in our body, aim for 300, or do weighted squats, lunges and glute bridges.

VelociraptorsVelociRapping · 31/07/2025 18:33

Make sure that any heavy lifting is combined with pelvic floor exercises, done every day with absolutely religious discipline. Anyone who has been obese for a long time is at higher risk of pelvic organ prolapse, especially if you have been pregnant, had an instrumental birth or birth injuries, or if you are post-menopausal. Heavy lifting with a weak pelvic floor will hasten along a prolapse and squats are some of the worst culprits. Ask me how I found out 🤦‍♀️.
