I have been um ing and ah ing about weight loss jabs for some time now. I had always erred on the side of not doing it because I was terrified of the side effects. However I have bitten the bullet and ordered some mounjaro. It arrived yesterday and I want to start it but I’m terrified! Anyone else felt like that to begin with? Need some positive stories and advice.

Thank you so much for all the comments and positive stories! I think I’m going to start on Friday as I’ll do my food shopping tomorrow to get lots of healthy things in. Has anybody found there is a better time of day to take it or does it not matter?

I don’t think it matters but everyone has their favourite time. I go for early morning as soon as I get up.

Personally I wouldn’t do a big healthy food shop until you’ve started. You might find you have surprising cravings - I was weirdly desperate for broccoli and that’s not something I’d normally eat. Also, there can be a temptation to have a ‘last supper’ the day before and eat your favourite foods. I was advised to try and have a ‘clean day’ the day before and eat good protein and veg etc. I think simple things like that can minimise side effects.

@user17294 good luck! Best thing I've ever done.

Have a look at your week and see when would be ok to feel a bit off if you do. I jab a Tuesday morning and the level peaks Wednesday lunchtime. So Tuesday and Wednesday are my days where if I was to feel off, I would do then by weekend I'm ok. When I say off, I'm talking headache, tired and more likely to feel fuller those days. Nothing major.

I wanted it that way as weekend is family time, I can eat more and am not so tired.

Gastric issues are likely to be what and how much you eat so priority is protein, veg, fibre. I eat everything in moderation and haven't cut out carbs just sugar, fatty stuff and fizzy drinks.

@threeeggsontoasti think I’m just going to go for it tomorrow! I’m hoping it will just quiet the constant food noise as I literally plan my life around food at the moment!

It’s the best way - once you get started, it’s quite likely you’ll be so glad you did. I felt the effects the same day. I had my breakfast and as I was busy, I suddenly realised around tea time that I’d not had lunch. Normally I’d have been chewing my arm off in hunger.

It’s not like that for everyone - 2.5mg is just a loading dose and not everyone feels the effects straight away but many do.

I always took it in the morning as that was the most convenient time.
I chose a Wednesday so that the effects would be at their best over the weekend, which is when I would most likely overindulge.

While we were on holiday I injected later in the afternoon as we were up and out quite early, doing stuff. I found that the mild side effects I get (indigestion and mild nausea on days 2&3) were much less. So I now do it later in the day.
However everyone is different and will have other opinions!
I suggest start off doing it when it suits you best and go from there.

I agree with @threeeggsontoast regarding not doing a big shop before you start. For me and dh we like less “tasty” things so whereas we loved strong cheeses and really garlicky foods they are now a bit too much. We literally eat the same as we did before but our portions are less. The Mounjaro has kicked the greediness to touch. It’s so easy now to have the healthier option of what we fancy. I’ve gone up to 5 but he went up to 7.5 but really we could have stayed on 2.5 as it worked the same 🤷🏻‍♀️

I'm 19 weeks in, 29 pound down and my only regret is not starting earlier.

I thought I couldn't afford it but with discount codes and switching pharmacies it's a averaging £125 a month at the moment and I make it last 5 weeks by using the "bonus dose" although this is not recommended by the pharmacy, but I weighed up the risks and thought it was worth it.

I eat exactly the same but literally a third of the size I previously was. I've just had a muffin but literally ate a quarter and put the rest to one side.

It's been absolutely life changing for me.

The best way to describe it is "freedom" in my head from the constant food noise and using food as an emotional crutch/reward etc. I didn't realise what a hold food has over me until suddenly it didn't.

Ive had barely any side effects, a headache the very first day I injected, heartburn for maybe rh first month but that went. Nausea on going up a dose but only for a few days. Bit more tired th day after jab day. But so many benefits.

I thought I would do a month then if it wasn't for me just leave it but at the moment I can see myself being on this for life!

8 months ago I was terrified and went ahead with it thinking it might actually kill me but I was too depressed to care either way. Now I have bags of confidence and an 6 stone lighter and still losing. No side effects either, I just eat healthy foods and take 2.5mg each week. Life changing.

Good luck OP

PearlsPearl · 30/07/2025 19:53

I was the same. Dithered for months, bought it and it sat in my fridge for a week. Now my only regret is not starting sooner.

10 weeks in, 2 stone down, no side effects except mild constipation.

Go for it! It could change your life.

And I jab at night right before bed.

incognitomummy · 31/07/2025 14:48

This was me in December. January. And most of February.

it sat in my fridge all that time!!
and then one day I just did it.
now. I’m 18kgs lighter than I was a Christmas!!! And a healthy BMI. From a size 16 to a 12.

I have not regretted it at all.

go for it. MN can hold your hand.

best of luck
