I have been um ing and ah ing about weight loss jabs for some time now. I had always erred on the side of not doing it because I was terrified of the side effects. However I have bitten the bullet and ordered some mounjaro. It arrived yesterday and I want to start it but I’m terrified! Anyone else felt like that to begin with? Need some positive stories and advice.

I’m exactly the same, I’ve been debating for ages but still haven’t been able to go for it - the same as you, terrified of side effects x

SevernWonders · 30/07/2025 08:58

This was me 14 months ago.

I've gone from a BMI of 38 to 23 and lost 7 stone.

You've come this far, you may as well take the next step.

FWIW I had minimal side effects - lost a bit of hair, always felt cold.

The only time I have had gastro effects has been when I have been OTT with greasy food or booze.

I took my first dose on a Friday night so that any immediate effects were at the weekend when I didn't have to worry about work etc

Good luck, this is the start of a life changing journey for you.

ithinkilikethislittlelife · 30/07/2025 09:04

Myself and my husband and our childminder all started the same week in January. We’ve all lost stones. No significant side effects whatsoever other than the odd bit of nausea. We’ve done so well that my husbands siblings are all now on it and mine too. It’s truly life changing. The needle does not hurt. At all. It’s teeny tiny. And for us the Mounjaro started working the very day it first went in. The only downside is the sheer amount of new clothes we have had to buy 😉

Comedycook · 30/07/2025 09:10

I was the same..left it in my fridge for weeks as I was too scared. Finally went for it two months ago and I wish I'd started sooner...best thing I've done. Lost just over a stone so far

SilenceInside · 30/07/2025 09:13

Side effects are usually mild and manageable, if you get them. You don’t have to take another dose if you get side effects that you don’t like, after a week most of the medication will have left your system and in 30 days it will all be gone.

TootieFrooties · 30/07/2025 09:13

I haven’t had one single side effect.

Comedycook · 30/07/2025 09:14

My side effects have been I've felt a bit tired and constipation

Strawber · 30/07/2025 09:16

I got myself all worked out for my 1st jab. But on the end just did it, after I was like why was i so worried

MagnoliaTreePetals · 30/07/2025 09:29

Best decision I ever made.....

I was just like you beforehand though. Really nervous! .
Now I am 4.5 stone slimmer and just a few pounds off a healthy BMI.

A few tips...
1 Find the August 2025 MN group where you will get a lot of support and encouragement.

2 Take a multivitamin as you will be eating a lot less,

3 Psyllium husk capsules each morning to prevent constipation

4 Stick to a mainly protein and vegetables diet. Personally I need 3 small meals a day as I feel a bit nauseous if I leave it too long between meals. I have not counted calories but lots of people do.

5 Drink water, more water, and even more water. So many reasons why: you will be getting less fluids in your diet as you are eating less, it helps prevent constipation, We need lots of water to digest fibre, we need lots of water to break down fat. We need lots of water full stop!

6 Find an exercise that you can tolerate/like/enjoy. You need to preserve muscle. I consider myself a gym-phobe and cannot run due to dodgy hip, so I have a few hand held weights that I do every morning, swim twice a week and go for a few brisk walks in my lunch breaks.

Good luck on your new journey.

Cabinfever20 · 30/07/2025 09:37

Morning. I’ve been on Mounjaro since 2 January and lost 2 stone 9lbs. It’s been the best decision I’ve made. I’ve had no side effects, apart from feeling cold in the early months, perfect suppression but able to eat small healthy meals and it’s made me totally uninterested in wine! I have the odd glass when I’m out but don’t drink at home anymore. I’m on 7.5 mg and don’t intend to go any higher as it’s working well. I hope to reach goal in October (another 12lb) making a total of 3.5 stone lost. The injections are so easy and I don’t feel a thing. After a couple of jabs it just becomes part of your life, but you must change your diet and eat healthily to set up good habits for when you come off it. I calorie count using Nutracheck which I highly recommend. Drink plenty of water and I take vitamin supplements and Ancient and Brave collagen. Prioritise protein in your diet - very important to try and avoid muscle loss and try and do some weight training to preserve muscles. My average loss is only 1.25lb/week but look how it’s added up. I feel great. I recommend giving it a try. If it’s not for you then you can stop. Best of luck.

Gingerbutterfly · 30/07/2025 09:52

Got my jabs yesterday after much (waaay too much) soul searching. They arrived at 2:30 I jabbed 9:00 last night (better for me to do reasonably straight away before I go down the rabbit hole of overthinking!) Injection itself a big anticlimax really as the needle is so fine you really don’t feel a thing! Not really sure what to expect, but seemingly no effects so far… slept as normal, no headache, stomach ache, nausea… anything really. I had my normal overnight oats with fruit breakfast. On second cup of tea🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

Sallycinnamum · 30/07/2025 10:00

Honestly, just do it!

I dithered for weeks and it's the best thing ive done for myself in years.

Lost nearly 2 stone since May and reached my goal weight of 10 stone, which is the lightest I've been in 13 years.

I have had some side effects such as nausea and fatigue and I don't bother with calorie tracking, just eat when I'm hungry.

As another poster said, jabbing once a week just becomes part of your life. Good luck!

Mounjaroversary · 30/07/2025 10:02

Go for it, side effects don't just hit like a tonne of bricks in most cases, I found with MJ it took the higher doses to give me the more unpleasant side effects so I just went back down a dose.

I've lost 5 stone and I've never looked back, best thing I've done for myself.

ShrankLastWinter · 30/07/2025 10:06

What are you terrified of?

Mounjaroversary · 30/07/2025 10:06

Size 20 down to size 10/12!

Just received my order but terrified to start!

Great post, some excellent advice there.

@user17294 just go for it. Honestly, that first injection may seem daunting but you'll soon see there's really nothing to it. As for side effects, for those people who have them, the majority are very mild and manageable. You'll wish you'd done it months ago.

MJ has helped me to completely change my diet around, I eat much healthier now, which I also think will be the key to keeping the weight off.
Unfortunately the one thing that hasn't worked for me is that it hasn't put me off wine. It's good but it can't work miracles for me! 😂

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 30/07/2025 11:12

I was terrified but, having made the decision to buy it, the night it arrived I drank a load of wine and jabbed (ok, I might have messed it up!) with no expectations at all and the hope it didn’t kill me! As you can tell from my user name, I was desperate and it was my last hope!

13 months later, I have lost 120 odd pounds halving my body weight, am fit and healthy with normal bp and a strong gym habit.

It has changed (probably saved!) my life and I couldn’t be more grateful!

Size 20 down to size 10/12!

Well done...even though we can't see your face, I think you look younger!

Pieceofpurplesky · 30/07/2025 12:11

I was the same. It took me months to take the plunge and buy. It then sat there - I got it out of the fridge a couple of times and put it back.

i did eventually take it. 15 weeks in I am 3 stones down, 10 off my BMI and in clothes I haven’t worn in years. Side effects have been minimal - certain foods make me heave so I leave them alone, I sometimes have a dodgy stomach but usually after crap food (had a macdonalds last night on the way home from a longish journey and this morning it’s exploded!). A bit of indigestion but apple cider vinegar chewies and peppermint capsules seem to have resolved this.

My only regret is not taking it earlier.

Thanks, don't like posting my face in case one of the gutter rags uses it!!
I look 10 years younger, no joke, even with the increased laughter lines and loose skin on my neck, I feel like I actually look good now. People love to bleat on about the risks and downside of this drug, but for me the risk of staying obese far outweighed any unpleasant symptoms or risk, I am literally a different person now. I go for runs, do weights, I'm so conscious of my fibre and protein intake and I've realised something really important, it's possible to eat what you want, so long as you do so in moderation and know when to stop.
MJ has been an amazing gift I gave to myself after years of health problems and misery.

user17294 · 30/07/2025 18:06

Thank you so much for all the comments and positive stories! I think I’m going to start on Friday as I’ll do my food shopping tomorrow to get lots of healthy things in. Has anybody found there is a better time of day to take it or does it not matter?

OP posts:
Cabinfever20 · 30/07/2025 18:17

@HappyWineDay I never thought the day would come when I wasn’t interested in wine. 😂

threeeggsontoast · 30/07/2025 18:35

I was exactly the same and dithered for 4 days. In the end I took it on a day where I knew I’d be busy (so I wouldn’t sit at home imagining a side effect) but also near a decent loo if I needed one. I was totally fine. Severe side effects are very rare and for most people if they have any, it’s manageable with over the counter stuff.

For my first few jabs, the following day I felt slightly pukey but nothing extreme and I could easily push through. I’ve had constipation throughout but again, either a laxido or some prunes sorts me out.

1 stone 3 lbs down in 10 weeks (average around 1.6lbs off per week) and it’s 100% the easiest thing I’ve ever done. I eat around 1100 cals a day and am never hungry and I hardly ever think about food.

If I were in the same room as you, I’d chant, ‘Do it, do it, do it!’ 😄

user17294 · 30/07/2025 18:39

@threeeggsontoasti think I’m just going to go for it tomorrow! I’m hoping it will just quiet the constant food noise as I literally plan my life around food at the moment!
