When did people start to notice you were losing weight?

Just curious as to what point people started to notice you’d lost weight? I’m not overly keen on the extra attention but I know at some point it’ll happen.

My starting weight was 16:3 and I’m now 15:1 (so just over a stone off). In my previous weight loss experience, I usually need to lose about a 1.7 stone before people might suddenly comment that my face looks thinner or whatever.

I’d say for me after 1.5 stone when my clothes were baggy but due to me spending on monjaro I can’t afford to replace!! My mum noticed first I tend to lose weight from the top down so always on my face first. People are noticing my legs now I’ve lost just under 3 stone.

Oh, I also changed my hair & make-up over the time I've been on MJ (hair now much longer, with blonde highlights, make-up more subtle/glowy), so I can see folks also trying to calibrate what, specifically, is different about how I look.

Yep, I still wear a lot of the same clothes. Partly because I don't want to draw attention to myself but It's getting to the point where I need to update soon.

I know what you mean. I’ve found it a real struggle buying new and clearing out old because I can’t reconcile that I will not be really overweight again after being up and down since my early 20s. It’s a battle 😩

just shy of 2 stone down and nobody that doesn’t already know about me being on MJ has noticed. I think it will be interesting doing the school run in September as I’ll probably be 2.5st down by then and comfortably a dress size or two smaller.

DBatteryBand · 24/07/2025 19:01

Started at over 19 stone. Now about 2 and a half stone down. People at work have started to comment. Mostly because my trousers keep falling down.

violetmondays · 24/07/2025 20:52

I've lost over 2 stone and I think I look so different. I've gone from 13.9 to 11.2. The only people who have noticed and said anything are the friends I see weekly who know I am on MJ. Oh and my mum who doesn't know about the MJ but knows I am on a diet. Literally nobody else has said anything. I went into the office recently after quite a long time and nobody mentioned it. Couldn't believe it! To be fair it's mostly men in my office, but still!

TheChosenTwo · 24/07/2025 20:56

About 2 months and 2 stone down. I lost quickly at the start because I had been eating terribly for a while (decent meals but constant snacking) and then meal sizes reduced dramatically plus zero snacks - it melted away pretty fast. Started at 16 stone and around Christmas was 14 dead on.
i hated and still hate the comments! Just leave me alone please!!!

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 25/07/2025 22:42

I’ve dieted in cycles loads of times, so this time no one really noticed until I hit my previous low point and kept going. I think they were used to me fluctuating by approx 20lbs so it wasn’t until after that. I’ve now lost 3 stone (42 lbs) so significantly more than my old normal!

m00rfarm · 26/07/2025 21:28

I started at 14 stone and am now 12 stone 5lb and someone stopped me today to tell me how great they thought I looked. Someone else the other day said my backside was a lot smaller (but they knew I was on mounjaro so doesn't really count)

StartingApril2025 · 26/07/2025 22:33

Have lost 2.5stone and only 2 people have commented and they’ve been oh you look well have you lost weight ? I just reply yes trying too. To be honest I’d rather no comments made. I still have 2 stone to lose though so will likely be more noticeable in another stone or when my clothes are far too big , at the min clothes are just loose which baffles me as they must have been so tight before!!

Tiredofwhataboutery · 26/07/2025 22:37

I think people don’t like to say now I’d notice but not say unless they mentioned actively trying to lose weight.

It’s funny because I was in a meeting recently and a male colleague has been losing weight. He’s lost 11lbs but everyone was complimenting him. 😜 Made me wonder if people feel more comfortable commenting on men losing weight than they do on women!

To be fair, I’ve noticed colleagues losing weight before but haven’t said anything. It feels like I might be intruding or being too personal.

I don’t think it’s the done thing to comment on people’s weight anymore, especially not at work. My DH noticed and commented pretty quickly, maybe at 5kg.
I’ve lost 12kg and not a single other person has commented. Not work colleagues or friends. I think maybe it’s now thought to be implying “oh, I noticed you were fat and now you’re not so fat”. It’s fine, I’m happy no-one is commenting as it means I don’t have to explain how I’ve done it. People wouldn’t dare to say “I’ve noticed you’ve put on weight”, so why should they be expected to say “I’ve noticed you’ve lost weight”.

FlowersFawb · 26/07/2025 23:21

I was 17 stone in Jan and now 11 stone 12..people started really commenting about 13 stone I'd say!

FlowersFawb · 26/07/2025 23:22

@Notmyrealname22 ha. I have been getting loadd of commemts at work!!

myladyjane · 27/07/2025 07:55

the 2 people who know about the mj (dh and a male friend of mine who is on it) comment quite a bit. Dd noticed about 1.5 stone in as I was trying some new clothes on in my undies. Other dd not at all. Both teens.

a young work friend who I hadn’t seen for a few weeks said something last week.

my mother has spent most of my life narrating my weight so no way she hasn’t noticed but she’s said nothing (bless her, I think teen dd pulled her up on something she said to me a couple of years ago and so now she’s avoiding it).

no one else has. I’ve over 3 stone down and I’m short so noticeable I think. I am still wearing some of the same clothes though.

dizzydizzydizzy · 27/07/2025 16:49

I have lots 30kg (66lb). Some people started commenting when I had lost 3 or 4 kg (0.5 stone) but most people haven't said anything.

For those who are interested - I have done it purely by changing my diet. I'm not exercising (disabled) and I've not used any weight loss drugs. Upped my veg and pulses, minimal bread, potatoes and pasta (because I'm hardly moving about). Have continued much the same with meat, fish and eggs but with a focus on leaner meats.

KateMiskin · 27/07/2025 16:53

I don't ever comment on anyone's weight.
Some people don't like comments and since I can't figure out who likes comments and who doesn't, I prefer to stay silent. Even on MN many have said they don't want comments.

roshi42 · 27/07/2025 20:13

Lol, I’ve lost 50lbs and my mother just said ‘you’re looking well’. I think people don’t like to comment even if they’ve noticed - which I think is probably the right approach tbh.
