When did people start to notice you were losing weight?

Just curious as to what point people started to notice you’d lost weight? I’m not overly keen on the extra attention but I know at some point it’ll happen.

My starting weight was 16:3 and I’m now 15:1 (so just over a stone off). In my previous weight loss experience, I usually need to lose about a 1.7 stone before people might suddenly comment that my face looks thinner or whatever.

My starting weight was 13:7 and nobody noticed until I had lost about two stone.

HoratioBum · 24/07/2025 07:11

After about a stone and a half my mum said she could see the difference. Over two stone down now and no one else has mentioned it! I have a good 4 more stone to lose though, so am aware I’m still very much at the top end of my weight loss ‘journey’.

For reference I’m 5 foot 3, my starting weight was 16 stone 4 and I’m currently 14 stone.

Itisallgoingtobeok · 24/07/2025 07:11

3 and a half stone for me. Started at about 16 and a half stone.

Sunshinesash · 24/07/2025 07:12

For me I’m quite short but this time it was around the 2 stones mark people became very aware. Only 2.5 stones down now and still getting told have lost too much constantly though my BMI is still overweight…

Hedonism · 24/07/2025 07:13

Don't they say something like:
1 stone = you notice
2 stone = family & close friends notice
3 stone = other people notice

Whitehorses67 · 24/07/2025 07:14

Depends how big you are to start with.
Bigger people can lose stones before anyone notices at all.
I didn’t get comments until I had lost about five stones.
A smaller friend lost a stone and everyone noticed.

threeeggsontoast · 24/07/2025 07:17

It’s funny because I was in a meeting recently and a male colleague has been losing weight. He’s lost 11lbs but everyone was complimenting him. 😜 Made me wonder if people feel more comfortable commenting on men losing weight than they do on women!

To be fair, I’ve noticed colleagues losing weight before but haven’t said anything. It feels like I might be intruding or being too personal.

I first got asked at 7lbs that was my parents. Then more recently I’m at 1st 10lbs and have been asked a few times and had a couple of messages after I posted a picture with you look slim/ your waist looks tiny. I was 13st10lbs and now 12st - size 16 on bottom (Tight) to size 14 which is loose but 12 too small and some 12 tops. I think people aren’t sure if to ask one of my contractors sort of whispered it to me when he asked if I had lost weight.

begone25 · 24/07/2025 07:26

Personally I would never say ‘you’ve lost weight’ but might say ‘you’re looking well’. But do agree, I think most people feel more comfortable saying it to a man!

Time4changeagain · 24/07/2025 07:51

My starting weight was 16st, nobody noticed/commented until I lost over 4st.

daffodilandtulip · 24/07/2025 07:56

I only had one or two nice comments, around 3 stone, before it switched to "oh don't lose anymore weight" "you'll look ill if you get more skinny".

ItsStillWork · 24/07/2025 07:56

My starting weight was 17st 10lb. I’m 5ft 8.

im now 11st 10lb and about 6 people have noticed.

40coats · 24/07/2025 08:37

I started at 18 stone. People close to me noticed after about 2 stone and everyone else around 3 stone.
I've now lost almost 6 stone (on ozempic) and since I hit the 5 stone the comments are all the time. I wish people would stop or word it differently but from my highest point I've actually lost almost 100 pounds so it's probably a bigger change than I realise for people I don't see regularly.

lookathatbookcase · 24/07/2025 08:50

5 ft 3, started at 15st 8lb, currently 12st 12lb, ize 18 to size 14. I'm aiming to get down to around 10.5-11st.

Around the 2 stone loss, I started to get a lot of 'You're looking well! You're looking really well!". I don't think people are putting together that I've lost weight bc I was severely obese before and now I'm just...obese, although one friend mentioned that I looked 'leaner'. But it's also hard to physically see the difference in myself.

Oh I remember those ‘don’t get too skinny’ comments. I kinda wanted to smack them! It’s like I’ve spent my entire adult life struggling to effectively lose weight…can you just let me have a moment of victory before expressing your ‘concern’?

I've lost 3 stone and only about 3 people have commented - all family, all who knows about the mounjaro. But they've only mentioned it very, very casually once or twice. I'm glad of that, and I don't really want anyone else focusing on it. In work a few women are all doing various weights loss things so if they can keep the attention off me that's fine with me.

pippapumpkin · 24/07/2025 10:13

People who knew I was trying to lose weight - around the 2 stone mark

For others it was around 4 stone. I think part of the reason is people tend to wear the same clothes which then end up oversized until a really significant loss. I know I didn’t buy any new clothes until I didn’t really have a choice and then people started commenting.

watchingplanesicantafford · 24/07/2025 10:21

I've gone from 14 10 to 12 8 and no one has said anything yet. I suppose it doesn't mean no one has noticed though.

UpDo · 24/07/2025 11:37

Mum and best mate, half a stone. But they both knew. People who didnt, a stone and a half ish. I'm short, so place in that context.

Redlightbulb · 24/07/2025 11:51

I started at 21 stone 4
Family who I live with noticed after 2 stone.
Everyone else around 4 stone. I got a lot of the 'you look well comments'
6 stone down now (5 of that from MJ) & a stone to go until I get into the overweight category.
I work from home & will be visiting the office soon.
Last time they saw me I was a stone & a half heavier so will be interesting if I get more of the you look well comments etc.
I would rather not have any comments at all to be honest as I am a serial yo-yo dieter but hoping that MJ puts a stop to that.

Yep, I still wear a lot of the same clothes. Partly because I don't want to draw attention to myself but It's getting to the point where I need to update soon.

doodleschnoodle · 24/07/2025 11:58

About 3 stone but it coincided with wearing some new clothes! Otherwise I think it might have taken a while longer. In the same week, I had about five comments having had none previously!

spoonbillstretford · 24/07/2025 12:00

I've lost 12.5% of myself (about 25 lbs) and so far only one person has commented, my next door neighbour. Oh yes, a friend I go to yoga with noticed too, I guess she sees me in leggings a lot!

I think other people will have noticed but are just being polite. I'm largely in the same clothes as there isn't a lot of difference between a 10 and a 12/14 - mostly my older clothes just fit better or are slightly capacious, as they have stretch in them. I can really notice it myself on my middle and my legs.

lovethepuppies · 24/07/2025 12:04

Nobody noticed until I had lost five stone, which was a bit of an eye opener for just how invisible fat people are to the rest of society

spoonbillstretford · 24/07/2025 12:11

What I do notice more now is men having a good look at me, and often a second look. Something of a mixed blessing. People (women and girls as well) look at me a lot more in the gym now whereas at 13 stone odd I was fairly invisible there. Now I probably have a good gym body, I did before but it was hidden under fat, and my active wear is nicer too - I went to Decathlon!
