Ordered Monjaro - did you follow a diet as such?

I am interested in this. When you started your weight loss injections did you follow a prescribed plan for weight loss or did you just find your appetite reduced to the point where it happened naturally?

Did you stay on the 2.5mg dose for the whole 8 months?

Yes, still on it now

kidscanwatchcbeebies · 13/07/2025 21:38

Problem is @FurForksSake i don’t eat normally - hence the injections! 5 and a half stone would get me to a healthy BMI.

I’m only 10 days in but I don’t want to be weighing food but trying to eat smaller healthy meals. I’m prioritising protein and vegetables. And not really eating much else as I’m full so quickly. I’m eating 3 meals with no snacking. Eg today had whey protein blended with fruit for breakfast, chicken with salad for both lunch and dinner.

FurForksSake · 13/07/2025 21:42

Ok, normally was the wrong word maybe! I found I was eating too much junk, a lot of emotional eating and just too large a portion. So reducing portions and cutting out junk and focussing on whole foods was enough.

I found TikTok videos helpful for inspiring healthy meals that had good protein and fibre in useful. Planning all my meals for the week and being very careful when eating out.

QueenOfHiraeth · 13/07/2025 21:42

I have always regarded the Mounjaro as a tool to help me learn good and sustainable eating habits that I can hopefully maintain for life so, personally, I would not suggest "dieting" or shakes, etc. One of the side effects can be constipation so getting fruit, veg and fibre in is essential
My first provider had nutrition advice as part of their programme and I was advised to eat a healthy, clean diet about 1500cals with around 100g protein a day so I usually have Greek yoghurt with berries and a little granola, nuts or seeds for breakfast, meat or fish with salad at lunchtime and a healthy cooked meal at night
I have lost 5 1/2 stone doing this and honestly think this slow and steady, healthy eating is the best way to go

MJMarch25 · 13/07/2025 21:58

I have done 8 weeks on 2.5 and 13 weeks on 3.33 (40 clicks 5mg). I am having to stick to a diet (team RH GLP 1) to make sure I eat enough, rather than stop me eating too much, and hit my protein and fibre goals.

I could easily eat substantially less each day, but wouldn’t be eating enough calories, protein or fibre if I just ate when I was hungry.
i am eating very clean, have cut out all alcohol (no pleasure from a glass of wine any more) and finding it a bit of a chore eating tbh. But rather that than the constant food noise and desire to always be eating that I used to have.

I see food as purely fuel now and am able to ensure I am only eating macro loaded foods as I have lost any desire for UPF/ junk food.
lost on average 1.5 lbs a week, so a healthy rate.

I’ve been doing 16:8 fasting and sticking to a protein rich diet and it’s been going well. I just haven’t felt like my daily sugar binges I used to have around 2pm and 6pm.

Pretty much the same as this.

Reduced naturally. It's been an absolute dream come true to lose weight with no effort whatsoever. I can rarely finish a meal and snacks hold no interest whatsoever. I have to be quite selective in what I eat, as I don't want to ruin my appetite by wasting it on something like say a couple of pieces of toast which would mean I was unable to eat a more nutritious meal. Whereas before I could easily eat a snack a meal and come back for more.

FurForksSake · 13/07/2025 22:13

It’s a good point about budgeting food, I eat very little bread or bowls of cereal as it is too filling and devoid of balanced nutrition.

there definitely has to be priorities around food that help hit goals. Greek yoghurt, lean chicken and frozen fruit are some of my staples, not together!

MrsMiagi · 13/07/2025 19:10

How are you finding that? How do you get all your macros/nutrients in from one meal?

Smdid you eat like this before MJ?

Yes I have done fast 800 for decades cycling it round and omad for maybe 13 years. Mj makes it super easy though. I'm not mega strict i will have a lolly kna hot day for example.

maliafawn · 14/07/2025 08:38

No. I didnt calorie count at all. I ate the same meals aa previously, but ate protein and veggies first, and made a conscious effort to stop as soon as i felt full. I cut back the things i previously had in excess, the hardest being calorific iced coffees and frappes, i still have one occasionally though, before it was daily. Eating out i chose the better proteins and left the carbs, so instead of pasta id order the steak and not eat the potato side, or id have chicken/salmon with rice. I gave up caffeine entirely after a few weeks.

The thing with mounjaro is it makes all them choices easier. Its not a new radical thing, its things you already know. You dont need protein shakes, meal replacements etc, you just need to do what you already know. MJ isnt doing anything bar making these choices easier longer term.

Ive lost 45 kg which took around a year, and maintained my goal weight since April.

That's exactly what I'm planning. I've been on 2.5 for 2 pens and have a 5ml sitting for next injection.... Noise suppression is good and I'm learning that social events need to be better planned as drinking fizz then eating (reduced) amounts of food makes me feel so uncomfortable 😣
Protein and vegetables are my go to but I need to add greek yoghurt back in.

I do the ME 360 body scans on a 2 weekly basis which is great motivation when I only lose half pound!

Iwouldratherbesinging · 14/07/2025 14:33

I was already trying to stick to 5:2 fasting prior to starting Mounjaro but fell off the wagon after losing 2 stone, being on Mounjaro makes it easier for me to stick to. I don’t calorie count as it makes me miserable and obsessive about food so I steer clear from logging everything I eat. I know roughly after years of dieting the calorie content of food, but I eat fairly healthily anyway and your portion sizes/needs tend to naturally reduce, snacking between meals magically stops. I use protein shakes (check the sugar content) a couple of times a week to replace either breakfast or lunch if I don’t fancy anything to keep my protein up. So yes, for me it just happened naturally - good luck!

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 14/07/2025 14:36

I didn’t follow a ‘plan’ as such but I used fast800 and Zoe recipes in the main. I did generally eat pretty healthily pre-MJ and have been generally low carb for years though so just focused on upping my protein a little and reducing portions, snacks and alcohol!

It's not possible to get enough nutrients from 800 calories. Also, impossible to eat like that after Mounjaro for the rest of your life so the weight comes back. It's the think people should not do as it might cause severe side effects.

A month in, a stone down.

I’ve used the Nutracheck app and stuck to their calories suggestion for my weight, height and exercise levels. To lose 2lb a week that’s 1200 calories Mon -Thurs and 1760 Fri- Sun (you’re allowed easier days but at the expense of calories on the other 4 days). I do eat my bonus calories from exercise too, but they only appear after you’ve done 200 calories of exercise. This seems sensible to me.

For me, micromanaging calories like this works a treat. My DW is not counting calories and is just eating sensibly and according to her (reduced) appetite. I felt that I needed another level of “protection”, hence the Nutracheck approach.

Start as soon as you can. Good luck.

Pffft. I'm coming to the end of week 3 and have lost 3lb. Ugh! Are you a man (going by the name)? My dad always loses so so easily.
It's so hard, I could cry. I really hoped it would work for me! I'm going to keep going.

FurForksSake · 14/07/2025 17:02

Just keep going, 3lbs is fine, it’s not necessarily going to work until the dose is higher. Keep going, you aren’t gaining weight and are losing so that’s positive.

Sorry, yes. But my losses aren’t untypical of many on here, from what I’ve read.

If it helps, I’ll walk within 20 yards of a bakers it will all go back on, plus more. I haven’t eaten bread in a month, and liquid bread (beer) is also off the agenda. Sitting here drinking a £4.60 pint of Diet Coke, dreaming of a sandwich.

Hope things improve for you.
