Currently away on holiday but will be starting on 0.25mg of mounjaro when I get back in the hopes of losing a stone.

I used to be so slim pre children and really hoping I can get back to feeling more myself.

I'm just wondering if people can give me tips on things to do when starting to take it, or things they wish they had known beforehand?

Many thanks!

Well 2.5 is the starting dose, and if you only need to lose a stone who are you getting it from? It's currently only prescribed to those who are obese so, if you only need to lose a stone you'll only be on it a month so🤷. My tip would be cut the carbs, cut the alcohol, count calories for a bit and save yourself 120 £ and the possible, nausea and vomming I had on my initial dose.

Strength training whilst doing it to help with the muscle building and “stop” sagging skin.
Take in the morning as it affected sleep negatively.
Take on a Friday so it’s in full effect over the weekend!
Don’t eat a lot of high fat food, that’s what upsets your tummy. You may be fine immediately but the next day you can suffer!
Tell only those who will support you.

Good luck!

SilenceInside · 11/07/2025 16:58

@miniworryare you sure it’s legitimate Mounjaro that you’ve got? The starting dose is 2.5mg not 0.25mg.

My tip is to see it as a long term health related lifestyle change, to go from obese to a healthy weight, rather than a short term fix to look slim.

LittleNoosh · 11/07/2025 17:02

That the low dose might not work. I’ve worked my way up to 7.5 and still get minimal benefits, especially in the run up to my period when I might as well have injected water.

TheBuffetInspector · 11/07/2025 17:30

Slow and steady wins the race.

It doesn't, it's not a race... You'll get there though.

Less than 1lb per week on average. 20lbs down, 25 weeks in.
Menopausal, lots of HRT and progesterone interference plus gave up smoking after 30 years at the same time...

That'll do me!

Actually no it can be prescribed with a BMI of 27 if there are health conditions eg pcos or high cholesterol.

There isn’t anything that I wish I had known tbh other than the fact that it would change my entire life and give me the one thing that I always wanted but never thought was achievable!

That said, the advice I would give is:

  1. read the leaflets in the box properly before injecting
  2. shove your expectations in the bin
  3. don’t compare your weight loss to anyone else’s. Even if Tamara on TikTok has lost a stone a month, doesn’t mean you will (or should!)
  4. don’t expect to lose weight every week
  5. losing 1lb a week is NORMAL and does not make you a ‘slow loser’
  6. NOT losing weight for a few weeks is NORMAL
  7. no, you don’t need to take electrolytes or any other supplements unless you personally think you need them
  8. focus on protein and fibre
  9. don’t take any notice of the shit written about GLP1s in the tabloids or on tabloid tv
  10. your body doesn’t understand maths so calculating a deficit from your TDEE is helpful but does not mean you will lose exactly a lb a week etc
  11. some be surprised if eating rubbish makes you feel rubbish
  12. be patient
I’m sure there’s more 😂 but those will do for now!
Gingercar · 11/07/2025 18:54

I agree with the above post.
Also -
Remember that you still need to plan a healthy diet. This drug helps, but it absolutely doesn’t do it for you.
Many people (myself included) still have to use willpower because they still have a decent appetite. So plan in advance what kind of diet you’re going to do - calorie counting, fasting, balanced eating etc.
Personally I’d choose a provider with lots of back up and support for the first month or two. I’ve read so many posts on here where people are having terrible side effects and don’t know what to do. I know my provider has lots of support and wants you to contact them if you have any issues. But those sort of providers are usually a bit more expensive (but often do discount for the first month).
Most of important- it isn’t a quick fix. Some people lose fairly slowly. Others seem to be racing ahead, but you often find it evens out further down the road. And slow progress is good for the elasticity of the skin.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 11/07/2025 18:56

Starting dose is 2.5mg, not 0.25mg.

Where are you getting it from?

If you're only a stone overweight, I doubt if your BMI is high enough to qualify.

RelishingGrpSupport · 11/07/2025 19:09

Take a "before" pic?

PearlsPearl · 11/07/2025 19:25

I'm assuming it's a typo and you're going on 2.5mg.

Drink drink drink cos the constipation is real!

Take at night so you can sleep through any side effects.

Don't overeat, feeling too full is really uncomfortable.

miniworry · 11/07/2025 19:31

Sorry that was a typo, I meant 2.5mg!

miniworry · 11/07/2025 19:37

My bmi is 28 but I have pcos so I do qualify- I'm also 5 foot nothing so the weight really does cling to me. Thanks for the recommendations- I was thinking about taking on a Friday evening so that I had the weekend for it to fully take effect!

Gpreasoning · 11/07/2025 19:57

Ah OK op I see you're really short, so 1 stone looks a lot and you have pcos so you qualify for lower bmi, sorry. Well as PP have said, watch your fatty foods, take at night, and get some pepto bismol, for nausea and chia seeds for constipation. Good luck

Glad I'm not the only one was on 2.5 now 5 but have only lost 3lbs and thats probably due to the diarrhoea! When I'm due on i just want to eat and eat

MaybeMrs · 11/07/2025 21:20

Drink 3-4L of water each day.

Be prepared to not want to eat anything. I’ve bought some meal replacement drinks as some days I just cannot face actually eating. Not through illness or anything I just don’t want it.

Some people will not agree with you taking M so think about who you tell? I’ve not kept it a secret and it’s very obvious as I’ve lost 5st 8lbs since December.

Who else is in your house? Are you changing what you eat for everyone? By cutting out most carbs, drinking more water and eating loads of veg and protein, my DH has also lost 2st 😝although he jokes to people it’s because I don’t buy food anymore.

Best thing I’ve ever done as a life long dieter!

Also take protein! Personally I bought protein shakes to make sure I got enough as I wasn't hungry enough to eat a decent quantity and found shakes easier

PutThe · 11/07/2025 22:30

If OP is short, a stone-ish could be the difference between 27 and 25.

OP I've had few side effects but was thirstier in the first weeks, even when drinking a lot of water. Dry mouth. It faded but I'd really recommend chugging it back.

miniworry · 11/07/2025 22:35

These are great tips thank you so much- I'll try to up the protein as much as possible and drinking water is certainly my downfall! So I'll ensure I drink as much as possible. Did any of you also tie it in with intermittent fasting eg ?

uggmum · 11/07/2025 23:05

Definitely cut the calories. Do not cut out any food groups but reduce carbs.
have a min of 100g of protein a day and at least 2 litres of water.
take multi vitamins. Especially
vitamin d, b, zinc, biotin, magnesium and collagen.

ChocolateGanache · 11/07/2025 23:20

If y need to lose a stone, surely you are too light for WLDs.

ChocolateGanache · 11/07/2025 23:23

Sorry read your later post

PearlsPearl · 12/07/2025 07:48

I roughly stick to 1000 calories a day. I don't actively count them but I've done it since last year so I generally know what I eat and check packets etc.

HeidiNotSoHeavy · 12/07/2025 08:03

Protein and weight training.

Also - do not go all crazy buying new clothes when you are almost at your goal, assuming your size won't change any more. At first, you may need to lose a lot of weight before you need to go down a size, but that will change - there's very little weight loss needed to go down a size when you're already slim.
