Feeling completely fed up

Is there anyone else who, after seeing so much about the weight people lost on these drugs, has tried them and basically had fuck all results? I’ve just finished five doses on 2.5mg mounjuro and have lost a grand total of 10 pounds. And yes, whilst that’s not bad, 4.5lb was in the first week, meaning that my weight loss is slower than if I was just on low carb. Does it get better when you go up the doses? I’ve struggled so much with binge eating for years and I was so hopeful. I see others at a similar weight to me lose that in a week.

I think the "marketing" on treatments like Mounjuro is so dangerous. There's no controls on what people post on social media so they could be 'exaggerating' their weight loss and we would never know. But it can makes others feel their efforts are not worth it, when they really are.

I'm sorry you're disappointed Giantpanda but hang on in there

Try not to compare yourself too much to others. There may be some people who lose faster than that but I would say that is unusual, and unhealthy. Everyone's journey is different.

The question you need to ask yourself is whether you would have lost 10lbs, on your own, in 4 weeks? And would you sustain that into another month, and another, and another? Because that's how long it is going to take. You didn't gain 4 stone overnight, and you certainly aren't going to lose it in a few months. You also haven't managed to lose it through other methods and that's why you have turned to weight loss injections.

The jabs are going to help you to remain consistent and will support long term, sustainable weight loss.

For what it's worth - I lost 9.8 lbs on my first pen. I have now lost 60lbs in 32 weeks - that is 4 stone, averaging 1.5lbs per week and I've just dipped into a healthy BMI. I certainly would never have done that without MJ. If you had told me in November, that by the summer I would be 4 stone lighter I would not have believed you.

Of course there have been weeks where I have gained, when the journey felt like it was going to be too long and right now, it's creeping off me and I can't get down below the next stone. Yes it's frustrating at times, but I am 8 months in and have put in the hard work.

You are 5 weeks in, need to reset your expectations and realise that you are in this for the long-haul, develop some patience, and be prepared to invest in yourself.

It IS working, you just have to let it carry on working and not sabotage yourself by wanting it faster.

Barely lost anything on 2.5 personally, things kicked off a lot on 5 and even more as I’ve gone up. Couldn’t cope with 15 so have come back down to 10 and that’s been ok.

PresidentBarklett · 04/07/2025 17:48

It's such a cliché but it all adds up. I started with 8 stone to lose. I lost quickly in the first 2 weeks and then it slowed to a far more healthy rate - 1 to 2 lbs a week. I've been injecting for 7 months and I've just hit 5 stone. 3 to go! I lose about 1 lb a week now and I'm cool with that.

But the time from 'uggggh so far to go and its going to take so long' to 'holy shit I've dropped 5 stone' seems like nothing at all. It's like I normalised the idea that it would be a long haul, made easier to accept by the fact I wasn't plagued by constant worries of falling off the wagon due to MJ.Abd then suddenly I was like 'oh! I've lost so much weight!' Almost like it sneakily happened without my noticing.

Doodlebug79 · 04/07/2025 21:14

I've been on MJ since January. I'm currently on 12.5mg. I've steadily lost 3.5-ish stone (probably closer to 4).
I didn't have the drastic weight loss in the early days that you sometimes hear of.
It's taken me 'til 12.5mg for 'food noise' to stop.
I'm really pleased that my weight loss has been so steady, as it has given my body time to adjust. Drastic weight loss within a short period of time isn't healthy.

Scarlettpixie · 04/07/2025 21:25

I started at the end of October and have lost 3st 2lb. I lost about the same as you in those first 5 weeks. A sustainable weightloss is 1-2lb a week so you shouldn't be aiming for more. I am hoping with loosing slowly that I have more chance of maintaining when I do get to goal - I am about half way.

If you can loose 2lb a week by dieting alone why not do that? The answer is that most of us can't do that long term. MJ makes it possible to stick to a diet long term and it feels bareable and doable. At this point, so long as every week or so I see a lower number on the scales I am happy. Half a pound is just fine with me. All a step in the right direction. What I do know is that prior to MJ I would loose 10lb and put 12 back. I have really tried but could not stick to a diet long term. This has been different and life changing. Those lb really do mount up and within a year you will be at goal. Would you be able to do that just by doing low carb? We all want to be thin overnight be we didn't get obese overnight so adjust your expectations and you will do fab. You have got this!

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 04/07/2025 21:25

I lost over 8 stone in a year with an average weekly loss of about that rate.

  1. Everyone responds differently.
  2. Drop any expectations.
  3. Don’t compare your losses to anyone else’s.
DarkForces · 04/07/2025 21:28

Would you have lost the weight without Mounjaro? Would you have been able to stick with it? It's a marathon not a sprint and you need to do it at your own pace

YawnSoTired · 04/07/2025 22:34

Remember 2.5 is loading dose to get body used to it. Time to move up to the 5mg maybe. I lost 4 stone in 7 months, 10lb in first month.

Incognitoburrito88 · 04/07/2025 23:41

I’m 13 wks in. Have about the same as you to lose and I’ve lost 26lbs - exactly 2lb a week but actually a big whoosh at the beginning and then 1 or 2lbs a week with the odd STS or 3lb. I’ve gone up to 3.75mg. It’s definitely a perspective thing. I’m losing at the same rate as you but I’m delighted. I have lost weight faster on Fast800 before but it was so hard - I was constantly thinking about food and missed out on so much. I’m not even counting calories at the moment (although I have a good idea of what the calories are in stuff) just eating healthily and low ish carb and accepting that I’m going to be on the jabs for a while yet. There’s no reason why you can’t do low carb whilst on MJ if you want to try and speed things up but I think your rate of loss is perfect and I don’t consider 10lbs to be fuck all at all. If you’d asked me if I’d pay £140 to be 10lbs lighter when I started my journey back in April I’d have said absolutely yes!

FableTheRaven · 05/07/2025 04:26

You’re doing fine, please be patient with yourself.

Your losses are absolutely normal - almost everyone has a big whoosh in the first couple of weeks and then it settles down to something more sustainable - as PPs have said, you’ve got to put the work in while you’re on it and use the time to train yourself into better habits that you can sustain once you come off it.

Without wanting to sound preachy - if you are using it as a quick fix to weight loss and don’t do this, there is a huge probability that you will regain the weight.

I’ve got 4 stone left to lose to be at my target weight. So far it’s taken me 5 months to lose 2 stone, despite having a big drop at the start.

I’ve had a few plateaus in that time, just coming off one that has lasted three weeks for no discernible reason. Only now seeing the scales starting to move down again. What I do know is that without MJ I would have given up long ago and returned to my bad habits.

Weight loss isn’t always linear. For some people it is a downhill march all the way, for others, like myself, it is more of an amble. It’s presumably taken years to put the weight on, it won’t come off overnight.

Comparison to people on social media - especially ones who are saying they had insane losses - will only frustrate you. This is your journey, no one else’s.

Good luck OP. You’ll be fine.

InfoSecInTheCity · 05/07/2025 05:49

As you’ve acknowledged in your latest posts OP you do need to try to reset your expectations a bit. Aim for 1-2 lbs loss a week which you are achieving. What I have found on MJ is that besides the suppression aspect, the biggest difference in why it has been such a success for me is that it allows for that level of consistency. Previously I’d do really well for 6 weeks, then fall off the wagon, put 3lb back on then have to start again, and would cycle through that till I gave up entirely, and I felt miserable most of that time because I was starving and feeling deprived.

Now I just stick to my calories I lose weight most weeks, sometimes 1lb, sometimes 2lb but pretty much every week and I feel good. Not starving, not craving anything, if I decide I’m going to have a bit of cake for an occasion then I have a small slice and it satisfies the need and doesn’t make me feel like I then need to eat everything else in sight.

Feeling completely fed up
threeeggsontoast · 05/07/2025 06:29

OP, you sound like me. 😘 But seriously, you need to be patient with yourself (as do I!)

Here’s my losses in nearly 2 months:

2.5mg
Week1: 4.8lbs
Week 2: 1.1 lbs
Week 3: 1lbs
Week 4: + 0.5lbs

Month 1 loss: 6.4lbs

5mg
Week 5: 3.5lbs
Week 6: 1lb
Week 7: 0.2lbs

But I look at it this way;

  1. Without MJ, I’d still have been revving in neutral with no weight loss at all.
  2. With crash diets where I’ve lost big amounts quickly in the past, I have always regained and quite quickly.
  3. I am slowly learning how to modify my eating - especially useful if you struggle with binge eating.

I too had unrealistic expectations on this drug but on reflection now, I really don’t want to lose that quickly and end up looking gaunt, only to put it back on again.

Think of it as a slow reset, a chance to reset your relationship with food. I too have about 4 stone to lose but I’m committed to this for the long term.

Penguinsmum · 06/07/2025 08:16

I think you are doing great...I lost 2 stone in 2 months - 12 stone to 10 stone - as I just had no appetite and so so much of my hair fell out! Horrible. And I kind of aged in my face drastically too! So now I am very happy with 1.5 pr week. Slow and steady!

StaySpicy · 06/07/2025 08:47

Unlike about 90% of people, I haven't lost loads quickly.

I've been on WLI for over a year and have lost around 2 1/2 stone. I have about 1 1/2 st to go.

Do I wish I'd lost it all really quickly? Yes. Am I trying to focus on the positive aspects (hopefully less saggy skin, easier to maintain etc.)? Yes.

It is what it is, OP. Take any wins you get and keep asking yourself if you'd have lost whatever weight you've lost if you weren't on the injections? I wouldn't and I was miserable where I was.

So, I think it's a life changer, however fast or slow you lose.
