Feeling completely fed up

Is there anyone else who, after seeing so much about the weight people lost on these drugs, has tried them and basically had fuck all results? I’ve just finished five doses on 2.5mg mounjuro and have lost a grand total of 10 pounds. And yes, whilst that’s not bad, 4.5lb was in the first week, meaning that my weight loss is slower than if I was just on low carb. Does it get better when you go up the doses? I’ve struggled so much with binge eating for years and I was so hopeful. I see others at a similar weight to me lose that in a week.

I get what you mean about comparison to the stories you read about people dropping loads early on, but 10 pounds is not fuck all results. It's at the top end of what you'd expect, it's sustainable and if it continues at that rate will see you lose loads of weight over the next several months.

Low carbing might have produced quicker results, but they weren't long term presumably?

MsTTT · 04/07/2025 13:55

I’ve lost 10st on Ozempic. I plateaued at the 9at mark so moved to Mounjaro and it did absolutely nothing for me- may as well have been injecting water into my stomach every week.

Would you consider switching to Ozempic or Wegovy to see if they’d suit you any better?

PurpleCoo · 04/07/2025 14:06

An average of 2lb a week is the maximum you should be aiming for, and this is what you have achieved. To lose faster than this comes with risk to health. You are having good losses!! It's a marathon not a sprint

I measure in KG but after 20 weeks I have lost exactly 20kg. It was highest the first week, and I haven't lost a whole kg in a week for ages. But this is ok

WhereOnEarthIsMyPlanet · 04/07/2025 14:09

I lost 4 stone at 1-2 lbs a week. I was really pleased with this and never considered it to be ‘fuck all’!

WhereOnEarthIsMyPlanet · 04/07/2025 14:11

The risk of losing faster than that is muscle loss/loose skin/hair loss, none of which I was keen on so I deliberately kept it slow and steady.

GiantPandaAttacks · 04/07/2025 14:27

I think it feels like fuck all because
(1) I have about 4 stone to lose
(2) again, the weight loss of others encouraged/s the notion that it’ll be speedier (3) I’m still fairly young (30s) so assumed that my metabolism would respond well to between 1200 & 1500 kcal a day.

Whilst I’d definitely consider moving onto one of the other injections, it just feels so expensive considering that the speed.

If you had faster results with low carbing why don’t you stick with that?

WhereOnEarthIsMyPlanet · 04/07/2025 14:30

I lost 4 stone in 7 months which felt pretty quick to me, considering I’d been trying for 4 years to lose that same 4 stone pre Mounjaro!

SilenceInside · 04/07/2025 14:31

Is speed of loss important? Or is consistent loss, long term, a more sustainable goal?

I had 12 stone to lose. I've lost almost 9st with another 3 to go, and been on Mounjaro a year. It's a long term process, even to lose "just" 4 stone.

Pinty · 04/07/2025 14:33

Ten pounds in five weeks seems a lot to me.

As I said originally, I struggle with binge eating so the suppressant aspect of these injections was going to hopefully support that. And it has - I don’t feel hungry, just frustrated that the calorie counting and the protein / fibre intake monitoring doesn’t seem to be showing much of a loss. But everyone above seems to think 10lbs in 5 weeks is fine, so maybe my expectations were too high, despite how others seem to respond to the same drug.

Why is speed of loss a priority for you? Losing it quickly has other effects such as muscle loss and a higher chance of loose skin. It also doesn’t give the new habits a time to embed, meaning that you’re more likely to put it all back on afterwards.
I’ve just checked back on Nutracheck and I lost the same as you in the first 5 weeks. I also had 4 stone to lose. I reached goal in 7 months, and have remained at goal for the 8 months since I stopped taking it.
How quickly do you think you’d be losing the weight without MJ?

springdays100 · 04/07/2025 14:45

You are being totally unreasonable. As others have said, that’s 2lb/week which is the top end of heathy weight loss. You really need to reframe your expectations.

ShrankLastWinter · 04/07/2025 14:47

I’ve lost an average of 0.9kg a week for 6 months, which has added up to over 28% of my body weight. Haven’t gone above 7.5mg dose. Less than 5kg muscle lost because I exercise. I think of myself as a super-responder with that loss rate and feel like I’m taking a wonder drug. I’m delighted and surprised by it every day when I wake up and find I’m miraculously not fat.

But reading all the different threads of people worrying about different loss rates and feeling they’re losing too slowly or too fast, I’ve realized this is actually just an optimism/pessimism thing. People react completely differently to the same rate of loss. Lots of people lose at the same rate as me and are annoyed with themselves or the drug.

No practical advice out of this, but if possible, probably good idea to give your inner optimist some nourishment.

This is how I feel, being ‘not fat any more’ is brilliant and I can’t believe I’m here after years of trying and failing!

I want to see the results of the effort I’ve been putting in but I can see that I’m being unreasonable with wanting it speedier. Maybe slower will ensure it keeping off long term.

I think seeing people losing 10lbs in a week to start with can skew your perspective a bit, but in general I think these tend to be the people with more to lose (4 stone is on the lower end), and also their weight loss will slow down at some point.

unsync · 04/07/2025 15:08

That's a perfectly acceptable loss especially on 2.5 mg. You need to adjust your expectations and be realistic. With 4 stone to lose, this is the rate at which to do it. I've lost 43 kg, I've been at it since the end of March 2024.

If you want it to stick, you need to give your head a wobble and sort your diet and exercise too.

WhereOnEarthIsMyPlanet · 04/07/2025 15:11

Don’t forget as well that it’s perfectly normal to lose nothing on 2.5mg

Orangesandlemons77 · 04/07/2025 15:18

Why have you stayed on 2.5, maybe you need to go up the doses? 2.5 is just the starter dose.

Namechanged4obviousreasons · 04/07/2025 15:30

I don’t know anyone on these kinds of drugs (unless they’ve got a huge amount to lose- way more than 4 stone) who can sustain more than 2lb per week loss on about 1200-1500 cals a week. For a lot of women, that’s maintenance (depending on your height etc).

The only person I know who dropped weight this quickly has raced to 7.5 dose and has no appetite so basically starves herself. She thinks it’s great but she’s looking so unwell and has loads of loose skin now. It depends on your priorities but this would not be mine.

You need to change your mindset or you will end up just returning to the old you. This needs to be a complete change and having an open-mind about doing things differently, is part of that. I’m guessing you didn’t gain 4stone overnight so it will take time. You don’t want to be one of those cases where you get gallstones and this tends to come from rapid weight loss.

The OP said she’d done 5 weeks on 2.5mg so I assumed that was just one pen including bonus dose

Oh I see, for some reason I thought she meant 5 pens

Orangesandlemons77 · 04/07/2025 15:33

But the first month or so is just about getting used to the meds, you can't really expect a lot until you move up I don't think, for some anyway.

Twodogsonthecouch · 04/07/2025 15:36

I’m 11 weeks total on ozempic. 3 weeks on 1 mg, was increasing doses for the first 8 weeks. I’ve averaged 1.1kg loss/ week so now down 12 kg and am delighted. I’ve only 10 kg left to target weight loss which would be three stone. I’m expecting to slow down but once I’m losing that’s ok. I’ve been stuck for years.
