Regulators looking to cut off maintenance below 25 BMI

Oushk have said that they are currently trying to fight with regulators to stop people being cut off from MJ at 25 BMI.

Apparently regulators don't like prescribing below that and that basically means unless you continue to remain at 25 or above you won't be able to be prescribed even for maintenance.

This is worrying as many see this as a lifetime medication after years of obesity but at least to maintain at a lower BMI for a little while to ensure the weight stays off. This seems like utter madness - this is surely going to lead to yo yo use of the meds which seems counterintuitive.

BMI in a lot of cases is a stupid archaic measurement anyway.

I think when they started offering maintenance it was something new and different to the others but now others are offering it too it is not so much of a selling point anymore.

Is the addition of p&p for maintenance happening straight away?

Might look at getting my husband to move elsewhere for maintenance if he needs any more pens (he is trying to come off), as that makes them not that competitive really.

He does have a 2.5mg pen in the fridge in case he needs it, but hopefully he won't. He's one of the fortunate ones who only ever went as high as 5mg anyway, went back down to 2.5mg when he hit his target weight, and recently found that too much so did his last two doses at 1.25mg.

I know that I am a different story and will probably need to stay on maintenance for life, but I'm not with Oushk.

P&P not added yet and she didn't say it was definitely happening but I imagine she's trying to soften the blow before implementing

In my view, it's deliberately and repeatedly ramping up the outrage and it's interesting that the people actually affected by any of this are largely keeping quiet as they've experienced or witnessed the bite back from her and several others.

See, this is exactly the sort of post that makes that Facebook group so toxic. I am sorry to be blunt, but really??

It is not my experience either of that Reddit group which I have found very supportive and which is genuinely helpful because of the information shared. And as a maintainer I am a person potentially affected by this.

KrankyKumquat · 11/07/2025 15:40

You can be as blunt as you like. I'm really pleased you've found it supportive. And, there's no arguing that if you ask for advice about constipation or a warm pen or other pharmacies or whatever it's really helpful. That's not what I'm referring to, however. Do you think it's OK to share a screenshot of Bilal's CV with the comment 'its obviously just an investment opportunity for him' in a baiting post about another pharmacist buying a new car? Or as a non-customer to sign up to join a live and then rush onto the sub to pull apart what's just been said? There's about 3 people that have tried to challenge stuff like this over the last 3 or 4 months and maybe you're one of them, if so then all power to you cause I'm one of the others that doesn't anymore because the response was so unpleasant. But I've obviously it wrong to see this as deliberately 'ramping up the outrage' and question the motives of some, not all, people on there.

Not Oushk this time, but the advertising standards agency has been cracking down on providers that advertise prescription only weight loss. Includes Health Express, Cloud and Pharmacy online. https://www.asa.org.uk/news/how-we-re-trimming-down-problem-ads-for-weight-loss-prescription-only-medicines.html

I thought the exact same thing & then scrolled down & read your post. That sponsorship deal is appalling.
