Regulators looking to cut off maintenance below 25 BMI

285 replies

Bigfatsunandclouds · 04/07/2025 12:38

Oushk have said that they are currently trying to fight with regulators to stop people being cut off from MJ at 25 BMI.

Apparently regulators don't like prescribing below that and that basically means unless you continue to remain at 25 or above you won't be able to be prescribed even for maintenance.

This is worrying as many see this as a lifetime medication after years of obesity but at least to maintain at a lower BMI for a little while to ensure the weight stays off. This seems like utter madness - this is surely going to lead to yo yo use of the meds which seems counterintuitive.

BMI in a lot of cases is a stupid archaic measurement anyway.

@HereIGoOnceMore yep, totally agree!

I have to say, I have had an enormous amount of respect for Hira and the stance she has taken on maintenance. Also love that Oushk is led by a woman. I stopped using them for a number of reasons including the fb group and their inability (refusal?) to deal with the loonies, the behaviour in lives where once again the ‘fans’ were almost encouraged, the bloody protein powder and because the customer service wasn’t actually as good as I had been led to believe.

I will say I do like the 15% maintenance discount but probably not enough to tempt me back!

The Facebook group is INSANE! Some of the fan girls on there really do need to get a grip. I like Hira, she seems great and really passionate about what she does, but you'd think she was a goddess from some of the posters. They tear apart anyone who dates disagree.

The worst offenders are the ones who have lost all their weight and think they are now gurus of weight loss and berate anyone who dares eat a carb/UPF/sugar.

@Bigfatsunandclouds I enjoy the Facebook group a lot. Highly entertaining and full of armchair experts and fan girls.

I did my whole journey with medexpress before switching to Oushk for maintenance and never had any issues but then again, on the other hand, they were super boring with their lack of entertaining fb group 🤣

KrankyKumquat · 10/07/2025 14:14

I've just discovered a new community on Circle so are they coming off FB?

WeAllHaveWings · 10/07/2025 14:25

@KrankyKumquat The creation of the Circle group was because facebook kept shutting them down. I would expect the next time their page gets blocked by facebook they won't fight as hard to get it back.

Oh me too - I am a lurker purely for entertainment purposes.

@WeAllHaveWings
Yeah makes sense. At least I'll be able to watch tonight's live now.

Mounjour · 10/07/2025 22:28

Was there any info on tonight's live?

KrankyKumquat · 11/07/2025 07:08

@Mounjour
I've just watched it and, tbh, I'm fine with it. Lots of emphasis on getting weight verification done, some changes to the website to make sharing info easier, no changes to bmi prescribing limits for maintenance (19), one or two other extra steps for newbies, some good ideas about the educational side of things. All seemed very sensible. No sign of panic 😅.

Not so much here but in other places (Reddit), the anti-oushk stuff has reached fever pitch, with people posting their research into Hira's family, interpreting everything to make the picture as bad as possible, it's horrid and I'm sure is motivated by other agendas.. One woman even joined circle to watch the live so she could post her biased negative interpretation of it. After tonight, I've decided to trust the company until I have direct personal experience not to. I hate the way getting a prescription medication for a genuine medical need has become a punch up between rival football fans.

DarkForces · 11/07/2025 08:06

Agree @KrankyKumquat . Although looks like they'll start charging for postage in maintenance and introducing new 'partnerships' so I'm expecting an increased push to buy supplements and blood tests but I can ignore those!

Do you know if the prices are going to change for maintenance as I was hoping to go with them for maintenance. Are they still going to offer the 15% off? No free postage is a shame though.

I also think they should email e everyone or something rather than relying on social media. I don't have the circle thing and don't want it so haven't seen the live

DarkForces · 11/07/2025 08:22

They said they intended to keep prices same @Fatmumslim01 just add postage

Mounjour · 11/07/2025 08:24

Thank you for taking the time to type that all out. I really appreciate it. Interesting! That reddit stuff is creepy and horrible though.

KrankyKumquat · 11/07/2025 09:09

@DarkForces
Agree. Although I did end up paying for some blood tests and would have used their discounted, glp specific ones with Randox if it'd have been available. I can definitely resist the supplements!

KrankyKumquat · 11/07/2025 09:13

@Mounjour
It really is creepy. Our Livewell friend posted Bilal's (Hira's husband) CV yesterday with a heavy dose of 'nudge, nudge, wink, wink'. You'd never think she has a full time job and a young family apparently.

HereIGoOnceMore · 11/07/2025 09:19

I’ve avoided the SM stuff apart from here so am blissfully ignorant of all the hype & detractors.

But I’m doing this for me and am a customer with choices. As long as Oudhk deliver what I am paying for safely, and on time, and their pricing remains competitive, I will stay. If not, I’ll find a different provider.

What sub? I hope it's been deleted, but not all subs have very active moderation.

KrankyKumquat · 11/07/2025 09:36

@Mounjour
mounjarouk so no effective moderation

Itscoldouthere · 11/07/2025 09:36

@KrankyKumquat thats horrible to hear about stuff being posted about Oushk private life on other sites live that. The Livewell person really seems to have an axe to grind.

Interesting you say someone joined Circle to watch the live, I thought it was only Oushk customers that could get on to the community, I didn’t realise it was open, not that I’ve really looked at it properly yet, but I’m not that happy if it’s open to all.

The maintenance FB group is now pretty useless as it’s full of random people asking how to book a weight verification call etc, not relevant anymore.

KrankyKumquat · 11/07/2025 09:44

@Itscoldouthere
Yes i thought it was closed too. But honestly this woman is so obsessed, I wouldn't be surprised if she made an order just to get in there. There's someone else who's posted screen grabs from FB and several watched the post inspection live on there, so there's ways I guess.

KrankyKumquat · 11/07/2025 09:53

Exactly my view too @HereIGoOnceMore

They were trying to imply they are not doing it as a price increase as such but because it as an issue with not being able to select which courier to use for maintenance in their website. So because they can't set their website up right maintenance customers will need to start paying an extra £6.99 per pen.

They do know how to make themselves sound hopeless at times 🙈

Otherwise nothing really new in the live to be concerned about.

Itscoldouthere · 11/07/2025 10:35

I think I might ask them about who can gain access as I certainly don’t want screenshots appearing elsewhere, although I suppose it’s likely that people screenshot from here as well.
I will watch the live and I’m currently happy to stick with them as I’ve had a positive experience with them, my BMI has gone down to 21.5 as I seem to still be loosing even though I’m trying to maintain, so I’m hoping they don’t up the minimum BMI, I really don’t want to loose more though so will try to keep at this weight.

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 11/07/2025 10:35

Just to add a little balance and ease off from the personality assassination happening here, there was no intrusion into anyone’s personal lives as it was not Bilal’s cv that was posted, merely a screenshot from LinkedIn that anyone could see if they looked. I do not believe there is any ‘obsession’ or even actual malice involved tbh. The individual involved is very active in phoning round numerous pharmacies to gain info about maintenance etc and feeding it back via the Reddit subs. Yes, perhaps they are a little over zealous with it all but the way they have been treated by some Oushk supporters has been pretty appalling. The fact posters know the information that the person has a young family and full time job just shows we are all capable of getting rather caught up in social media dramas!!

As ever, social media posts are subject to individual interpretation and I have not seen any ‘fever pitch’ nor painting ‘pictures as bad as possible’, merely some discussions and attempts to make sense of the limited information that has come from the GPhC. People are somewhat worried about losing access to MJ and this tale of potentially being cut off under 25bmi has only come from one place. Tbh, I would say parts of this thread are over exaggerating and making a drama out of nothing so ‘those in glass houses’ etc

We all have out reasons for choosing or not choosing different pharmacies but I have to say that Oushk seems to be the only one that creates this level of passionate feeling and furore (well other than the well deserved ME hate of course’ 😂) and one just has to wonder why. I mean, do you feel like that about the chemist you get your normal prescriptions from? 😂😂😂

KrankyKumquat · 11/07/2025 11:10

@IReallyNeedThisToWork
The information is only known because she shares it repeatedly. And yes, ok, a screenshot of his Linkedin CV, i didnt suggest she'd obtained this illegally. And if you don't think there was any malice involved, that's fine although I'm wondering what point she was making and why then? In my view, it's deliberately and repeatedly ramping up the outrage and it's interesting that the people actually affected by any of this are largely keeping quiet as they've experienced or witnessed the bite back from her and several others. It's not been nice.

I didn't see the chit chat on FB and it all seems to have been a storm in a teacup about maintenance - I'm not at all clear what the link between this and the inspection is. I wish it hadn't happened but we are where we are and may find out more after the reinspection and the publication of the full report.

But any way, don't want to fall out with anyone here; it's far too hot. Time to go clean the bathroom and prepare for the tennis.

Burnserns · 11/07/2025 11:18

@IReallyNeedThisToWork I agree. I'm also on Reddit and I haven't see any malice. There are, however, very knowledgeable people pointing out the seriousness of an enforcement notice (some who work in the industry) and those explaining that there is disengenuousness in Oushk painting this as the GPhc being anti-maintenance. Many of the same points being made in this thread.

I also find the other poster helpful and her knowledge about who offers maintenance and on what terms is second to none.

I think most people want Oushk to pull things together. I'm no longer a customer of theirs but I certainly don't want them to fold. They are a mid size provider, a lot of people rely on them and (credit where it is due) they paved the way for maintenance, there was a thread on the maintenance reddit sub a week or so ago praising Oushk for their work on Maintenance. My view is that they are new and Hira is making some silly mistakes but nothing they can't recover from...they should stop using social media as their primary mode of communication though, too much room for error.
