Hoping the lovely bunch of May starters thread 3 finds this new thread. Can't believe we are on 4 in the space of couple of weeks.

Thread 3 is now full so can't post the link for the new one there.

Morning all, how is everyone getting on?

Week 7 update - stayed the same this week - a few ice creams and alcohol free beers have snuck in this week so I suppose I better knock them on the head and see what next week brings.

I’m starting to feel the suppression wane a bit earlier, probably as I’m still on 2.5mg. I’ve decided to stick at that dose for next month as well. Not sure if that is the right decision or not!

Had a rough week this week team May! Started with a horrendous virus which I got from my middle DD. She was knocked for six with it and I was knocked for about one hundred 😢. Still struggling now although on the mend. I think probably made worse as I started with it on jab day and then couldn’t eat barely anything for the next two days . Thankfully yesterday I started to feel a bit hungry again and could eat my meals I think that’s the only way to get better. Of course on the plus side I’m 2lb down this week so a small silver lining, but I have felt like hell and still do. I’m wondering if it’s the dreaded Covid is that still going around? Anyway either way I’m on the mend now after four days of yuck. At least the medication has stopped me doing what I would usually do with a virus and eating my body weight in sweets or ice cream, neither has touched my lips although I did have two slices of toast and jam for lunch yesterday (no butter) as it was the only thing I fancied. Onwards and downwards!

hi everyone, I’m completing my 7th week of ‘dieting and calorie counting’ and taking my 8th jab tonight. 2nd 5mg. Iv lost 10lb. It’s coming off very slowly compared to others, but I have been away AI for one week and have been drinking at social events. I get no side effects, like I was icky on my first 2.5, but that’s it. I’m 12.1, started 12.12, and want 10stone. Im 38 and 5ft 3.
I’m using nutra check to track everything and working on 1400 calories which thankfully has been easy to stick to. Anyone else seem to have a similar journey?

Morning all
I bloody love my GP. Went to see her this morning about a possible prolapse and thank goodness it’s fine. We had a chat about my use of mounjaro and interestingly my provider hadn’t notified my GP despite me requesting they can. Anyway she was definitely pro MJ use. She said anything that helps weight loss was a good thing and was disappointed that there is so much shame attached to its use. She said she is doing a talk this afternoon to the rest of the GPs in the practice about it’s affects on HRT (namely oral progesterone) and she was delighted that I was using a mirena coil as part of my HRT treatment because MJ doesn’t apparently interfere with localised progesterone from the mirena. Really interesting stuff.

Gingercar · 10/07/2025 13:54

What a lovely gp.
I spoke to two of my customers who are GPs prior to starting, and one said she’d been prescribing similar for years for diabetes. The other said the only issue he’d seen was weight regain at the other end when the drug was stopped, but if you are prepared for a bit of a battle against hunger and cravings for a month or two, or if you are doing a lot more exercise it should be fine. Another newly qualified doctor spoke well of it too. As did the nurse who I saw about my test results showing high for cholesterol, blood sugar and blood pressure.

I have very similar stats to you. I've lost 11kg which is slightly more than a kg a week. I'm still on 2.5 and started on 2nd May. I could think that it is slow progress, but actually I think it's better this way and more sustainable, so have made my peace with it. Also think staying on a low dose is good. My suppression is reasonable. I can eat but not too much and I'm happy with that as it's more 'normal' if that makes sense. Who knows??? All I know is that I'm no longer 'obese' bmi and I'll take that! Onwards and downwards!!

Gingercar · 10/07/2025 16:29

I’m not sure if I said last time, but Ive just been to my second NHSVpre diabetes workshop thingy this afternoon. At the end of the session I spoke to the girl that runs it and said I was on MJ and I wanted to let her know because I felt like a bit of a cheat. She said she thinks it’s great, and is definitely not cheating if you’re working on eating healthy and changing your habits as well.

chergar · 10/07/2025 16:39

So this week I decided to try 3.75 instead of 5 as I had no appetite at all, I feel this is working better as I have eaten a bit more each day, I can feel the suppression wearing off now ( I do my jags on a Saturday) but I feel better for it as I think I was just starving myself so had no energy. I have ordered an exercise bike which comes tomorrow so hopefully will be able to up my fitness a bit and build some cardio/muscle as I am scared I will start to lose muscle as well as fat and then pile it all back on. Did a sneaky weigh in today and looks like I have gained a pound or two but I’m not going to panic, I think I am coming up to period week and have been eating a little bit more each day, still healthy things but at least I am not feeling weak every time I stand up. It was nice losing chunks each week but that is not sustainable so even if I gain a little this week and next the losses should even out and be more steady which hopefully means I will be able to keep it off in the long run.

Mounjour · 10/07/2025 19:34

@lissie123 congratulations on your GP. I tried to speak to mine about absorbance of oral progesterone and she wasn't interested. Said it didn't need upping (as per the guidance I'd printed out for her).

Feeling really, really rubbish tonight. Had far too much junk today and then binged on Maltesers this evening. Gone up to my highest dose yet tonight, 3.3mg.

Week 15 looking like another 1lb off.

lissie123 · 10/07/2025 20:27

@Mounjour sorry to hear your GP isn’t being very helpful re HRT. Is there anyone else you can see instead who might be more up to date with MJ and how it affects HRT treatments?

Mounjour · 10/07/2025 20:33

It's not a battle I want to pick I suppose @lissie123. I'm fighting on too many other fronts right now. But thank you the suggestion, because I hadn't even considered that(!). Must be tiredness.

What's everyone's plans / timeframes at the mo?

If I can lose 1lb a week on the newer higher dose, I should hit my target by 21st November. I'm not sure I've got that many weeks left in me.

dc82 · 10/07/2025 21:08

@Mounjour if I lose a 1lb a week too then I’d reach my target for first week in November. That seems miles away from here 😆

DidILeaveTheGasOn · 10/07/2025 21:42

If I lose a pound a week then I will hit my target on Christmas Eve 2026.

Gosh. I don't know if that's motivating or not. Christ.

DidILeaveTheGasOn · 10/07/2025 21:49

In other news, had a little chat with Dp about cooking big dinners at 10-11pm at night and said how it's hard because I won't have calories left to use but I'm on a calorie deficit, so I might be a little hungry at that time, and then he cooks something with soy sauce and fried rice and it smells bloody gorgeous, and asks me if I want some, am I sure? Just a little plate?
So he agreed to stop cooking up a storm after 10pm and then tonight he's all, oh I got some reduced meat from the shop, I have to cook it tonight. 'Tonight' being any time from now, 10 onwards.

It's not fair. I am a bit hungry, even with Mj, it's not magic. I'm on a deficit. Why cook now? And then he'll be up til 1 or 2am and I'll get up with the kids at 7.

Ugh. How am I meant to be healthy long term? I don't want to have my main meal at 10pm or even have an additional meal that late.

Mounjour · 10/07/2025 22:25

I'm sure you've posted about his late night cooking before. He sounds very unsupportive :( and like he doesn't care a jot about what you've said to him. You're not even asking him to be supportive, you're just asking him not to sabotage your efforts.

Apprenante · 10/07/2025 22:29

Can you ask him to put some of what he's cooked in the fridge for you to have the next day?

Alternatively - and this is what I would do because I'm 71 but behave like a 5 year old - have an enormous tantrum??

It can't be good for him to eat so late. I hope he gets raging indigestion - that's my inner 5 year old again.

dc82 · 11/07/2025 00:00

@Apprenante you made me snort out loud!

@DidILeaveTheGasOn that does sound like purgatory. When you’re trying your hardest to lose weight and he’s living his best Ainsley Harriet. I think a tantrum might be the way to go to be honest, so he hopefully gets it in his head how important this is to you.

SutekhsEars · 11/07/2025 06:38

I think I would go full-on emotional blackmail. 'But whhhhhyyyyy do you want me to faaaiiilllll.....?'
But then I don't really like anyone apart from the two people I gave birth to, so you might not want to take advice from me.
I don't think he sounds very nice to you, sorry @DidILeaveTheGasOn .

Yes similar to me! I’m 41, 5’2.5” SW 12 stone 4, CW 10 stone 4. Went straight up to 5mg after a month on 2.5 and on second month of 5mg. Due to do jab 11 at the weekend. Was going to go back down to 2.5mg but weight loss has really slowed down now. I’m aiming for 1200 cals per day but am in reality not managing to eat them all. My fitness pal keeps telling me off for not eating enough.

AccidentalPrawnYouFool · 11/07/2025 07:40

Mounjaronew · 09/07/2025 17:34

Now at 11s 1 lb. It’s weird the way I stuck at 11 4 for weeks and now it’s down nearly a lb a day or so. I’ll be ecstatic when it’s saying 10 something!

Yes! 10 stone 13 was a massive win for me 🙌🏻

I don't think it's going to happen for me - I've just stayed the same again. Third week at 11st 12.

Sorry to hear the scales haven’t budged this week - sending a hug as I know it sucks. I’ve read a few stories on other threads of plateaus followed by drops though and I think that can be the pattern. How you finding the suppression on current dose? I’d a flat week and so moved up to 3.75 earlier than I’d planned but I feel like it definitely gave me a nudge.

Mounjour · 11/07/2025 08:52

Definitely feeling the suppression waning recently, so have gone up to 3.3mg. I keep thinking of the costs of wuick weight loss and trying to look at the positives of a plateau 😌

Apprenante · 11/07/2025 09:37

It's quite reassuring to hear about other people!s plateaus and whooshes. I think I'm due a whoosh.

BUT it isn't going to happen just yet. Tomorrow I go for a week of 'French Immersion'. I go every year and it's really good fun, staying with a family, lessons, parties ....

My hostess quite rightly prides herself on her cooking. And that's going to be the problem. How to eat what I know I need, i.e. small and plainish, without offending her? And wine - generally a different bottle for each course - doesn't appeal at all but I really really don't want to look rude or ungrateful. And navigating all of this in French. I'm fairly fluent but not that fluent! Help!

Stephenkingsbiggestfan · 11/07/2025 09:58

Stupid me updated the March thread not the May one last week 🤣

Currently on 7.5mg just ordered 10mg. Getting into a routine with my food now and definitely eating a lot more than I did at the start consciously as my GP said I need to a) ensure I am correctly fueling my body and b) don’t pile the weight back on. She is pro weight loss medication but stressed it is not a miracle cure and habits have to change if the weight is going to stay off.
