Mounjaro..... is it worth taking?

SushiCat85 · 21/06/2025 12:01

Iv been thinking of starting mounjaro for a while now but worried about side effects. Iv started going to a private gym with a pt. Im hoping if I started mounjaro, would it also help with the energy boost I need too and not just weight loss? I also take sertraline for my mental health, which is always up and down! What are your views please 🙏 the good and bad ☺️

I haven’t had any side effects, slight headache after jab but nothing else. 7 weeks and 1st 7lb down xx

JustPinkFinch · 21/06/2025 12:04

According to the many threads here, MJ seems to be a mixed bag as to whether it gives you energy, no change, or lethargic. You won't know how you react until you try it.

One thing that's not in doubt though, it will help you lose weight.

Elseaknows · 21/06/2025 12:14

All I can tell you is that it was worth taking for me. I started taking it on the 1st June. First week was slightly wobbly, I had chronic constipation (thank goodness for senna) and felt really bloated. The appetite suppression was almost instant for me. I've made really good food choices since taking them (whìch used to be challenging). So far I have lost 1st10lb. I'm not starving myself or skipping meals. I am counting calories through Nutracheck and it's becoming really easy to plan meals. I get fuller much quicker. I don't feel like I'm on the hunt for food all the time (no more constantly feeling peckish). I feel great.
Try the first month to see how you go? If it doesn't agree with you, don't reorder or change doses.

SushiCat85 · 21/06/2025 12:21

Thankyou everyone. My food choices are quite good until its 'shark week' then I fail and give into cravings 😫 Im not really a huge eater and I stop once I feel full but just need that good energy boost and a bit of weigh loss to help me on my way. Im 5ft 9 and 210lb. Its just the stubborn tummy apron I need to get rid of.

There is no way I would have lost 3 stone without it.

Nothing is risk free.

only you can decide if benefits outweigh the risks

Ke11 · 21/06/2025 12:28

I'd advise you to look through the monthly starter threads so you get an idea of what people are doing/experiencing since it does seem to vary quite a lot.

Also you may want to discuss it with whoever you see about your mental health because that could be affected. Personally I have adhd and take Elvanse and since starting Mounjaro in Feb this year I have noticed a difference in a good way, it could be the weight loss, the much healthier diet, controlled blood sugar or the Mounjaro itself.

Most people will probably say the same thing, keep up with the exercise, especially strength training and drink plenty of fluids and you'll have a better time and get better results. Also make sure you get plenty of protein.

Honestly for me it's been the best choice I've ever made for my health, other than the private adhd treatment a few years ago. I've lost weight, I have loads more energy, I don't crave sweets or junk food at all anymore and I was essentially a sugar addict before. Losing the weight also makes it so much easier to exercise and much less aches afterwards. My mood is so much better because my blood sugar is normal, I don't ever get hangry now.

I have had a few side effects but nothing awful, occasional nausea that I solved by changing my jab to a morning rather than evening, occasional diarrhoea (maybe ice or twice a month) that came from eating things with too much dairy, easily solved again.

Also, if you don't get on with it after giving it a month or two, you can always just stop and it'll wear off, it doesn't linger in your system for more than about 7 - 10 days I think.

Disturbia81 · 21/06/2025 12:33

I hear more commonly that it zaps energy even just with normal tasks and can’t even contemplate exercising, but bigger picture is the weight loss which will lead to more energy by the end especially once off the jabs

raven0007 · 21/06/2025 12:40

I’ve previously used wegovy. It worked whilst I was taking it. I lost a lot of hair - a lot - but I also lost a lot of weight.
Im now using M, first jab last Wednesday I’ve had no side effects as yet other than eating less and not feeling as tired. This time round I’m taking supplements to help with the hair loss just in case, I don’t have enough left to lose anymore!

SushiCat85 · 21/06/2025 12:48

@raven0007Since having children my hair is always falling out. Iv found that using Routine wellness shampoo & conditioner has helped so much. I hardly loose any hair now. Its a bit on the expensive side, but worth it x

Op

I love it so much

So sw 19.5 ish

Cw 13.10

Got a stone to go

Started Oct 2024

So that's almost 6 stone
Some days I'm relaxed with eating

10mg makes me tired
Won't lie

But apart from that overall 10/10

Best money I have ever spent

I was trying to lose weight for 7 years

ZImono · 21/06/2025 13:02

I think it depends i personally wouldn't have taken it for a stone or two as I am concerned about long term implications.

I had 6.5 stone to lose to get to bmi 25 (so really need to lose 7/7.5) and im short.
My spine was not happy and it was impacting my health. Its a huge amount to tackle on your own.

I have lost 5.5kg in 14 months so its not as rapid as some on here. I'm okay with my choices but am concerned by some side effects

I have very long hair, I can sit on it it’s that long, it used to be so thick. I would estimate that I lost over hair of my hair during / after wegovy. It did slow down eventually. I’ll attach a photo of what I lost after a routine brush. It was worse after a hair wash. I’ll definitely have a look for Routine wellness, thank you.

@ZImonowhat side effects do you have?

AnneElliott · 21/06/2025 13:51

I think it’s great. Have lost nearly 6 stone in just under a year. No real side effects other than a bit of tiredness but on the other hand I can now run upstairs which I couldn’t do before.

SushiCat85 · 21/06/2025 13:54

@AnneElliott Thats amazing 👏 🤩

Karatema · 21/06/2025 14:14

I’m struggling! I’m on week 2 and have one lunch a day and am struggling to eat anything else. As a result I’m feeling lethargic!

SushiCat85 · 21/06/2025 14:36

@IReallyNeedThisToWorkThats fantastic 👏

@KaratemaBless you. Just shows how it effects everyone differently.

My hair thickness in a pony tail is almost halved

I'm considering rogaine

HansHolbein · 21/06/2025 14:50

Just over 7st down here. Few more pounds to go. I have a brand new life. Tons of energy, taken up exercising, experiencing new places when I used to say no. Taking up space in the world - and I deserve every moment of it.

No side effects. Not worried about anything. The alternative was to stay fat and die.

Best of luck to you!

Some people get hair loss as a side affect of MJ. I did but have very thick hair so it’s not a huge deal but just warning you. I have minimal side affects but do feel quite tired on the two days a week when the drug peaks.

SevernWonders · 21/06/2025 14:59

Definitely worth taking. I regard this as life saving. I have lost 7 stone with ease. I'm able to eat healthily and stay in a calorie deficit which I never would have without WLI.

You’ve lost 24lbs in 3 weeks?!

sunnydaysfillmewithpeace · 21/06/2025 15:06

I’m only on week 6 but I love it. Lost 11lbs so far but I’m happy with that as I don’t want a sharp weight drop and end up with loads of sagginess.

I’ve NEVER been able to stick to a healthy plan for 6 weeks in my whole life, so this is game changing stuff. I’m on 5mg and it’s been so easy. I no longer obsess about food and it’s just really easy to stay in a calorie deficit. Side effects have been nothing extreme - occasional mild nausea, heartburn and constipation but it’s all fixable with over the counter stuff. I’ve certainly not been incapacitated by any of it.

I’m short so I can only eat around 1100 calories a day if I want to lose weight. In the past, it’s been pure misery, constantly thinking about all I’m ’missing out on’ but I’ve barely given it a second thought. I track my calories and today I feel nicely full and should finish the day on 1035. I’m not going any lower than that as I want to be healthy but it’s pure magic as to how that’s even possible.

My BMR is 1535 so my long term plan (once I’ve finished) will be to eat within that limit, using all my new tastes and discoveries with protein (rather than loading up on carbs as I used to!)

mondaytosunday · 21/06/2025 15:16

I’ve had a friend for about 14 years. In that time we’ve been to a PT together, started various diets etc. She’s only about two stone max three overweight and is tall. Frankly she was never quite that serious about losing weight to stop drinking wine and cutting back calories. She’s an excellent cook and does it every day.
I saw her for the first time after a few months. She is, for the first time, noticeably thinner. She said she’s on MJ (which she got directly through her pharmacist). It’s the only thing that’s worked. Minimal side effects. I was happy for her but I can’t take weight loss medication (I’m a type 1 diabetic) so feel sorry for me!
