Not been able to go for 2 days. I took a laxido last night to no effect. While on WLI, do you struggle with this and if so, what works for you?

I don’t worry too much about not going for a couple of days. I think because I’m eating less I don’t need to go so often anyway. I jab on a Friday morning which is also my day off work so I have porridge with chia seeds for breakfast then. I’m not sure if it’s a combo of that and the jab or just the porridge but that usually sorts me out but then I often don’t go for 2/3 days towards my next jab day. As long as I’m not uncomfortable I don’t worry too much now.

obviously it’s important to make sure you are well hydrated and making sure you are drinking enough. Lots of natural things you can try before resorting to laxatives, prunes and apricots are popular and kiwi fruit works for my daughter!

TheNinthLock · 11/06/2025 08:50

Chia seeds in my greek yoghurt.
A dried apricot and a small glass of prune juice before bed.
Aiming for 2L of water a day.
Three strong espressos in the morning to get things moving.

loobyloo1979 · 11/06/2025 08:51

Lactulose is my go to when I get constipated. I do however eat dried prunes, dried apriocots and fresh
kiwi. so have only used it twice in 5 months. Make sure you are properly hydrated.

Kipperandarthur · 11/06/2025 08:55

I'm suffering from this as well. Pharmacist who I see in person for the WLI says Movicol is fine to take regularly as it is a stool softener not a laxative.

If I am very bunged up I take the maximum dose but am slowly realising that a daily sachet is better.

It's definitely changed my habits and I am also prone to constipation as well so was expecting this to be a bit of a problem.

I eat prunes daily, drink 3 litres of water etc but still need help.

Oneearringlost · 11/06/2025 09:17

Dried pears! About 12g fibre per 100g compared to about 7g in dried prunes/apricots.
You can get them from Amazon as not always available in supermarkets.

Two sachets, at least of Laxido. As a PP mentioned, it is a stool softener so not as brutal as a laxative. Lactulose works well too.

usedtobeaylis · 11/06/2025 10:20

I don't suffer too much but a whole pile of green veg (tenderstem broccoli usually works) and drinking hot boiled water.

Weightlossprincess · 11/06/2025 10:39

I'm actually finding gravity helps more than anything.
Litterally evrytime ive felt a bit constipated, a walk has helped .

However, I have struggled bit it being a bit too " hard " and hurting a bit to go.

ScoffingWaters2000 · 11/06/2025 10:54

2-4 dried prunes and a tablespoon of milled flaxseed in my breakfast muesli works for me! I have found though that there is a lot less 💩 to come out 😊

I find drinking lots of water and having a coffee first thing helps me. I also make sure I sit properly on the toilet to help get things moving. I sit with my back leaning against the cistern rather than leaning forward like most people do and if still struggling, I rock slightly forwards and backwards which really helps. I read this somewhere and saw a diagram to the process - allows the bowel to straighten out!

It reminded me of advice I was given a few years ago to sit with your feet on a low stool/ledge when constipated, leaning backwards gets your body in the same position.

I probable look a bit weird rocking forwards and backwards but fortunately no one sees me!

DottyMcDiet · 11/06/2025 12:55

According to MFP I’m over my fibre goals every day, Weetabix Chrunchy Bran for breakfast every day, chia seeds in my yogurt and plenty of water but initially I was going once a week 😩

Im hoping it’s getting better as have been twice since my last jab but I nevertheless thought I’d be so mindful about 💩

NormaMajors1992coat · 11/06/2025 14:11

Water, coffee, fruit (especially kiwi, melon, plums) all help for me. And just generally lots of veg and salad. I only need to go every 2-3 days but I haven’t had to resort to medication (yet)…

threeeggsontoast · 11/06/2025 15:11

Thanks for all of this. My morning routine (before WLI) was breakfast and a cup of coffee and like clockwork, within 20 mins I’d be off to the loo. As MJ slows down gastric emptying, I assumed that would take longer but it’s a surprise to find nothing much happens at all.

Anyway, I’ve been out to buy some prune juice but am waiting till I get home to drink it, just in case laxido and prunes prove to be a bit explosive. 💣

I absolutely recommend the 'I Love You' (ILU) technique. Gets things moving immediately - you can feel it!

Not that anyone really wants to know but a combo of prunes, laxido and the (rather genius) ILU abdominal thing…worked! The relief. 😂

I feel relieved just reading that! 😆

Psyllium husk capsule everyday. Improved my bowels so much.

Do you just take one a day?

I have really suffered with constipation and this week I think I've overdone it with Movicol sachet and x 2 psyllium husks each day and now have the opposite problem!

OllysArmyRidesAgain · 12/06/2025 10:50

Been on WLI for a year now and where before I was going at least once a day and often 3 times I am now struggling with once a week. I hate the feeling and need to find a solution. I have tried increasing fibre in my diet, fybogel and my fluid intake is fine.

I have always been prone to constipation with other medications and things like coffee have never had the desired effect.

This week I have resorted to Dulcolax and even that hasn’t worked after one dose

1x 1400mg.

Just wanted to say the Physillium Husk capsules are great. I realised that I probably need to take something every day rather than wait till I get bunged up. I bought some from Amazon and there’s been no problems since.

Have you got a link please @threeeggsontoast I want to get some but there's so many to choose. Are the ones you take big? I hate taking pills.

Thanks

I don’t know if this link will work or not but I bought them from New Leaf on Amazon. It’s 4000mg and gives about 20g of fibre a day. They’re fairly large capsules but you can also buy powder which you can stir into food.
