Will WLI help?

I'm worried that I'm a fat fucker because I'll just eat regardless of hunger levels. And that Mounjaro won't work for me.

Like if it's lunchtime,I'll just get some lunch and eat it, even if I'm not hungry.
Will I just completely lose any appetite? Like not want to eat?
People talk about food noise? I don't know if I have that or not.

I've lost 25% of my body weight on wl drugs

They worked well for me.

They work for most people I think, at the right dose (some people need a high dose but give up when the low doses don't work for them). They just stop you fancying food in the same way.

If anyone wants to hear the LBC phone in on slimming jabs which was positive. It was Vanessa Feltz last Sunday I think.
Need to download Global Player app.

I'm only a week in but I've been to the supermarket twice without buying crisps, pop, chocolate sweets. Unheard of. I didnt even have to consciously think about ignoring them. I was just disinterested.

I can dish up food / clear away without licking spoons, finishing off the spuds. I aren't hunting in the cupboards for food. I did my daughter's pickup this morning. There was a share pot of chocolate mousse. I didn't even lick the spoon when I put some in the pit for here. There's a multi bag of mini cookies in the cupboard and it's not at all tempting.

I can actually happily eat salad leaves this week. Last week I couldn't.

I am trying to stick to three meals a day but it is tricky as food no longer seems to matter.

Mentally I seem to have more space to plan what I have to eat so I somehow eat more wholesome food.

It's very odd.

Me too. I'm in my 60s and seem to get fatter each year. I must have tried most diets. I can lose a stone but then give up and pile the weight back on.

You have to eat when using WLI in order to lose weight in a healthy way, and it’s worth pointing out that not having any appetite on WLI is actually an adverse side effect of the medication and not what it’s actually supposed to do. Most people never have this level of ‘suppression’ and if they do the sensible thing is to go back to a lower dose of medication because it’s not healthy.

To find out how many calories a day you should aim for on WLI you work out your TDEE then deduct about 500 per day to have a loss of about one pound a week. I’m currently on 1500 calories per day, that’s a deficit of 500 per day I and have been since mid August 2015. My weight loss has been a pound a week and yes, I do get hungry at times and I’m always ready for my next meal but in a nice way.

Just to add another perspective, mj isnt stopping me eating, im doing that. Im calorie counting and using will power. But i am fuller and dont fancy eating as much. But if youd offered me pizza, wine and crisps at 7pm id have smashed them 🤣

Yes this is my experience too.

But tbf, I haven’t ever managed to stick to calorie counting and losing weight over a sustained period like this before starting MJ. In the past I’d only manage to stick to diets or healthy eating for a few days before completely giving up and gaining weight again. There’s something about MJ that makes it feasible to stick at losing weight.

Titasaducksarse · 07/06/2025 17:51

I'm a few months in but only on second level of mounjaro as it's working well. I've lost on average half a stone a month and had plateaus but I've not put any weight back on so I'm really pleased with my progress. I'm weight training too.

The way it's impacted me is there's virtually no desire for greasy food eg chips, pizzas etc. Also I naturally eat my protein first in case I'm not able to eat a lot so I focus on that. This afternoon OH bought home ice cream. Old me would have been all over it but new me still felt full from lunch so declined.
Never have I been able to have half opened biscuits or chocolate in the house. My desire for alcohol has really diminished.
At 48 with the gym work, although I've 2 stone still to go I look better than I have in years. I went clothes shopping today and the joy of not wanting to cry in the changing room was awesome.

Have I told anyone..very few people. I hate the narrative of how it's cheating or makes it so easy. It's an aid but you still have to put the work in! I'm building habits to carry me on for the rest of my life

Kosenrufugirl · 07/06/2025 17:57

TheMoreIKnowTheLessIUnderstand · 07/06/2025 14:09

I do actually eat a good diet..sour dough bread, cook from scratch, butter, olive oil etc. about 90% I'd say was "whole foods"
But I do eat cake, puddings, biscuits, crisps etc as well.
I just eat too much I guess, and definitely when I'm not hungry.

But then I also get so slumpy and tetchy around 5 (after lunch at 12:30ish) and feel like it's blood sugars... So then eat anything around. I try for fruit, but often have a slice of toast and butter or something.

Would you consider hypnotherapy to help you with your cravings?

Hypnotherapy has been recognised by the British Medical Association since 1965. It's not a quack treatment. And my cheaper, 5-6 sessions might be all you might need

There was a phone in dedicated to slimming jabs on LBC and finally I got how they work from one particular caller, a male who described it so well.

One of the things he mentioned was putting fuel in his car and paying without looking at the chocolate. He said his norm would have been 2 or 3 bars a day. He had forgotten about chocolate. I don't know if that's what food noise is.

The penny dropped for me, as that was the same when I used Champix to stop smoking many years ago. No cravings, no temptation, it was a though I was a non smoker. In the case of slimming jabs, you're a normal eater?

I do wish though that those on the jabs would stop saying they still have to diet. It's still difficult. Because if it alters the mind as Champix did for me and how that caller described, how is it difficult? Is it to fight back at naysayers? Well you are exactly the same as someone who got medical help to stop smoking, as I did.
Go for it OP.

I guess because we don't all experience it like that? It helps with noise and cravings but I still feel hungry and still have to actively make good choices about what I'm eating v bad habits, so there's still willpower involved and I still need to be mindful. There are days it's really difficult and I really can't be arsed weighing out my food for the third time that day and regardless of the jags it would be incredibly easy to slide backwards.

DBatteryBand · 07/06/2025 18:48

I am a dyed-in-the-wool fat fucker. I think about food all the time, I eat food all the time. I eat when I’m happy (‘Hooray!!!! Three cream doughnuts for everyone!’ ) I eat when I’m sad. I eat when I’m anxious. I eat when I’m bored. I eat when I’m watching tv, driving the car, working. And if I’m not eating, I’m thinking about what to eat next. I eat until I feel unbearably, horribly full, then eat some more. I am properly fat. I wear size 22 clothing. I weigh more than I am willing to reveal in public. I lower myself cautiously onto furniture, I stand rather than sit on garden chairs. I don’t trust toilet seats.

However, four weeks ago I started injecting Mounjaro and now I don’t think about eating at all. It’s astonishing. I can go to the supermarket for tin foil and not come out having spent £50 on food. I can be left alone in the house with unfettered access to the crisp cupboard. I am simply not bothered. It’s just a ‘meh’ from me at every turn. I eat three reasonably sized meals a day (I do count calories) and have developed a proper love for crisp salads (which previously I would use just as scenery for chips). I have lost 20lbs and unlike when I am dieting, I am not thinking all the time about food I can’t have. Give it a whirl, OP.

Weepixie · 08/06/2025 02:59

Why should we lie about it to make you feel better?

Kelim · 08/06/2025 07:40

I'm not dieting or putting any work in. I know that's heretical to say on here but it's true. I'm eating whatever I want, whenever I want, and making no effort whatsoever. It's just that what I want is a tiny chicken salad.

I'm having a complete holiday from self denial and it's brilliant. I'm delighted! It's such a relief!

flossydog · 08/06/2025 07:46

Like if it's lunchtime,I'll just get some lunch and eat it, even if I'm not hungry.

This is normal though! People don't eat at regular meal times because they're starving, but because if they don't eat regularly they won't have energy for the day. Your problem is probably in the portions / contents rather than the fact you eat to the same schedule as almost everyone else in the country.

12purplepencils · 08/06/2025 07:52

I had similar concerns to OP since eating when I'm not hungry is my speciality, I thought if MJ dulls hunger I'm still going to eat.

It has worked for me but I have probably been a bit less sensitive than some.

A lot of the time I just don't fancy things and can pass with no will power effort or stop at one. Occasionally though I can still have a mini binge or over indulge.

I have lost weight slowly and steadily, which I'm fine with, and have about 1 week a month where I don't lose (stay the same or very slight gain)

12purplepencils · 08/06/2025 07:54

I would also say I'm not dieting at all, not counting calories (who can be arsed with that!) and not putting in much effort if I'm honest.

It has just curbed my binging.

I am counting calories. Most days it's to make sure I have eaten enough, rather than the other way around. Plus, I am paying a lot of money for these jabs and I want to give them every chance to work. I am re-training myself to eat sensibly-sized meals, so when I finish my jabs I can continue healthy habits. I think that's worth bothering with.

12purplepencils · 08/06/2025 08:10

@DBatteryBand that fairs enough and makes sense if you're worried about not eating enough.

I haven't really had that level of suppression for more than a day or two each week, and not had such rapid weightloss that I'm concerned I'm not eating enough.

Plus I didn't eat unhealthy meals before really, it was more binging / excessive snacking and chaotic eating,

onceuponatimeinneverland · 08/06/2025 08:10

@DBatteryBand

I'm only week 2, day 1 but I agree with what you've written. It sounds like I could have written it.

I'm quite frankly amazed. Family had Chinese last night. I didn't as I didn't fancy it, so didn't order any, didn't pinch anything from the order either. A week ago I would have had a main, fried rice and a tub of mushrooms, prawn crackers and maybe spring rolls. Had a salmon poke bowl.

I'm a bit scared as to what Mounjaro is actually doing to my body/mind. Feels like I'm having an out of body experience.

onceuponatimeinneverland · 08/06/2025 08:12

I'm counting calories and consciously making healthier choices. I've never been able to count calories suchcessfully. It's early days yet, but I feel I need to retrain my automatic go toos/brain as I don't really want to be on WLI for ever.

lifetheuniverseandeverything42 · 08/06/2025 08:38

I’m finding that it is just much easier to make good choices. I stop eating before I’m full. My go to at lunch is 1/3-1/2 a tin of mixed beans with some pickled beetroot to make a salad and some tuna. In the last three weeks I have had two small chocolates (from a a selection box), and probably three packets of lentil crisps and some boiled sweets (mostly when driving as I was feeling travel sick) and a couple of small plain slices of cake. In the past I would have eaten that in one day. I still feel hungry but I never feel starving like I have to eat straight away. I think it helps regulate your blood sugar so I haven’t had that horrible hangry feeling I used to get.

It just makes it easier to make good choices. I still have to use willpower but at a manageable level. I’ve been to macdonalds with the kids and just had chicken nuggets and not had any fries , I’ve had meals out and not had puddings, I’ve been to the beach and got ice creams for the kids but not had one myself.

I’ve also drank less alcohol (I probably had a bottle of wine a week before so nothing to worry about but still better to drink less) and I’ve stopped biting my nails. I really think that it is a remarkable medication. I’m only on the lowest dose.

Icebreakhell · 08/06/2025 09:20

I’ve lost over 11kg in 6 weeks.

The drug regulates blood sugar and delays gastric emptying. So you don’t crave food all the time and when you do eat, you feel fuller.
I find the few days after the jab the effects are strongest. For example, yesterday I went to Wagamama. Before, I would easily have shared 2 starters, ate a main and then gone somewhere else for a cake. But yesterday I could only manage a third of my main dish. As the week wears on (and drug wears off) I find I can eat more and I think about food a lot more. But on my worst day I’m still eating a lot less than pre Mounjaro. If I overdo it (or eat oily food) I pay for it with indigestion and sometimes diarrhoea.

I’ve stayed on a small dose (currently 3.75) as still struggle with the low level side effects. I find the night time indigestion and belching quite annoying.

Some seem to not have any side effects and some of us struggle a bit. I find it manageable and I would 100% recommend it.

Shift the weight round my middle a d maybe will give me the visuals I need for portion sizes

That must be really liberating. New Winter wardrobe ahead!

I was like that with cheese. Make a cup of tea and always return with a hunk of cheddar. That's a benefit of living alone, I stopped buying it and there's no one else to complain.

kissmyfatass · 13/06/2025 15:26

I’d down over 2 and half stone my jeans are hanging off me. These are jeans that I refused to throw out even though they were 2/3 sizes too small. Little wins
