Im overweight because I eat even when not hungry

Will WLI help?

I'm worried that I'm a fat fucker because I'll just eat regardless of hunger levels. And that Mounjaro won't work for me.

Like if it's lunchtime,I'll just get some lunch and eat it, even if I'm not hungry.
Will I just completely lose any appetite? Like not want to eat?
People talk about food noise? I don't know if I have that or not.

I am a terrible snacker, especially savoury, salty stuff and I am just not bothered while on mounjoro. I eat and enjoy 3 small meals a day, and don't think about food outside of that, I really don't. It helps that I stopped buying biscuits and crisps before I ordered my first pen,so even if i get a yen for something, I don't have it in the house.

So, does it affect your appetite?

So like if I am putting dinner in table for 5yo and DH, will I sit there and not fancy it? Or just do what I do now and eat regardless if how hungry I am?

I have VERY slowly started to stop when I'm full. But I'm from the "clear your plate" generation. So it's really hard.

It will in all likelihood work for you. What you’re describing is similar to how many of us were before starting Mounjaro. I cook for my family, I serve myself a small portion and am full quickly, so I don’t eat more than that.

TheMoreIKnowTheLessIUnderstand · 06/06/2025 20:55

So does it act like an appetite suppressant? You just don't fancy the food? Like when you're ill
?

I’m heading into my 5th week and as someone who would constantly raid all the kitchen presses looking for snacks even when I wasn’t hungry, mounjaro has been absolutely brilliant. I’m not bothered by snacking at all. I eat breakfast, lunch and dinner. I still have an appetite but find that I’m full much quicker. Some days I’m hungrier than others, but I eat well and am so much more mindful of what I’m putting into my body.

Deadringer · 06/06/2025 21:02

I cook a family meal every evening, spag bol, roast, etc and just eat a modest portion. I enjoy eating it, weirdly i am finding that actually food tastes better, but I get full quite quickly so I probably only eat about half of what I used to eat. When I have a cuppa afterwards I don't yearn for a biscuit or anything, it's great tbh. Tonight we will have a drink at home, we used to have a share bag of crisps with our drink, now I will just have a handful because that's all I want, it's hard to explain.

LumpyMashedPotato · 06/06/2025 21:03

I could have written that.
I was 105kg in Mar 24 I'm now just under 70kg

21ZIGGY · 06/06/2025 21:13

Just to add another perspective, mj isnt stopping me eating, im doing that. Im calorie counting and using will power. But i am fuller and dont fancy eating as much. But if youd offered me pizza, wine and crisps at 7pm id have smashed them 🤣

Yep willpower definitely required still. I've just had three squares of galaxy before MJ I would have polished off the bar, and it's a family sized one.n

Kelim · 06/06/2025 21:20

It has different effects for different people. For me, at first I just didn't want to eat anything. Now, it's more that I get full after a very small meal, like toddler sized. And I'll stay full for hours and hours.

So it's not like eating when you're not hungry. It's like trying to eat when you're full. Just can't do it. Don't want to do it!

kissmyfatass · 06/06/2025 21:26

I was exactly the same. Would just eat for no reason just because I could. Sad happy bored stressed any thing at all I was eating.
mounjaro has stopped me fancying anything. I’m just not bothered. My portion size is about a third what it used to be. I use a small plate now. I regularly leave food on my plate which was unheard of. I will some days only have one meal and maybe a protein shake. I’ve lost over 2 stone and I’m so happy. I don’t hate myself anymore.

I am like this as well. Eat 3 meals a day out of habit even when not hungry. Still do this with MJ but my portion sizes have reduced & I don’t snack / binge anymore.
It has stopped that ravenous hunger & bottomless stomach feeling.
It’s crazy when eating out & halfway through your meal feeling full. Such an odd feeling
Also not to feel hungry at home after eating in the evening.

LumpyMashedPotato · 06/06/2025 22:35

TheMoreIKnowTheLessIUnderstand · 06/06/2025 21:38

Wow!

Believe it or not my weightloss is vs the threads on here depressingly slow. Its very much cumulative and took over a year. 14/15months now

Since jan I've "only" lost 5kg but its been a very turbulent time. Without it id likely have gained 5kg so I suppose i am "down 10" really.

I don't discuss it with anyone except my dh and my weightloss isnt that remarkable... in the sense that people aren't particularly astounded by you losing 4-5lbs per month

It does supress your appetite so you eat less at meal times as you feel full faster, but also stops you using food as a hobby - I rarely think about food outside of meal times now, and I was a constant snacker/boredom eater before. Also I just stop eating when I am full now and would have previously finished off my plate no matter what and picked at the kid's leftovers too!

hooplahoop · 06/06/2025 22:58

I could have written your post. For me cravings for sweets , crisps and alcohol have disappeared, so when previously I would have had a snack even when I wasn’t hungry , I can now see the families chocolate in the cupboard and am genuinely not interested.

threeeggsontoast · 06/06/2025 23:07

I think ‘food noise’ can sometimes be a case of eating because well, it’s lunchtime and that’s what we do at lunchtime. While on MJ, I’m not thinking ‘it’s 1pm, I will eat lunch’. I’m just not thinking about it all and if I’m busy it can easily get to 2:30pm before I feel hungry.

It’s hard to describe but it just seems to switch off any interest in food. You will still get hungry but it’s much later than you think and usually by about half the plate, there’s an almost uncomfortable feeling of fullness that is very hard to ignore.

Deadringer · 07/06/2025 11:09

I eat 3 small meals a day whether I am hungry or not because I want to develop good habits to keep the weight off after. I am trying to make healthy choices and not craving crap gives me the space to do that, so I could have a cup of tea and a couple of biscuits for lunch but I don't, I eat a yogurt and banana or ryvita and hummus. At dinner time a sandwich or a few crackers would probably fill me but I sit down and eat dinner with everyone, albeit a smaller portion, and I make an effort to eat extra veg with it. ( I hate veg). I want to lose weight but I also want to get into the habit of making better, healthier choices.

Hi OP
I'm not on weight loss drugs but just wanted to add something. I've lost almost 2 and a half stone with another 4 and a half to go.

I'm a stress/comfort/lonely eater. I don't know if that is what you are meaning.

Like I eat because i think the sugar/salt/falt gives me 'comfort' and makes me feel better temporarily.

I put on a huge amount of weight in the last 5 years due to being under a huge amount of stress/abuse.

The thing that is helping me is actually trying to improve my mental health. I'll be starting therapy soon and meanwhile I am reading /watching things myself (I've been diagnosed with complex trauma from childhood abuse).

I still get the urge to eat rubbish sometimes but I try to ask myself what am I actually looking for and the answer is normally distraction, sugar high, comfort, numbing effect. At the start I really struggled and so I would eat a square of dark chocolate after each meal plus a glass of milk to 'wean' myself off the sweet cravings. Then I had just chocolate and now only occasionally.

I am concentrating on eating 'whole' foods and not eating any ready meals etc.
So for example yesterday

Lunch - lambs liver plus plate of great veggies with butter and mint, half square of dark chocolate
Dinner - baked potato with egg mayo and cucumber
Supper - big bowl of organic porridge with banana, honey and pecan nuts.

I hate being hungry at bedtime so the porridge is really filling plus the banana and honey make it sweet. I'm not counting calories and I'm not measuring portions.

Eating these whole foods and not ready meals/processed rubbish is making it easy and I suppose giving me natural 'appetite reduction'

I think if you eat foods that are low in nutritional value your body is still waiting to be 'fed' even though you have eaten if that makes sense.

Anyway I think the route to weight loss is to figure out what the cause is and try and address that.

Obviously I don't know if I will be able to loss all the weight this way but I want to at least try.

No judgement for anyone taking the weight loss drugs but I just wanted to give you the point of view of a comfort eater who reaches for food not because of hunger.

I do actually eat a good diet..sour dough bread, cook from scratch, butter, olive oil etc. about 90% I'd say was "whole foods"
But I do eat cake, puddings, biscuits, crisps etc as well.
I just eat too much I guess, and definitely when I'm not hungry.

But then I also get so slumpy and tetchy around 5 (after lunch at 12:30ish) and feel like it's blood sugars... So then eat anything around. I try for fruit, but often have a slice of toast and butter or something.

There was a phone in dedicated to slimming jabs on LBC and finally I got how they work from one particular caller, a male who described it so well.

One of the things he mentioned was putting fuel in his car and paying without looking at the chocolate. He said his norm would have been 2 or 3 bars a day. He had forgotten about chocolate. I don't know if that's what food noise is.

The penny dropped for me, as that was the same when I used Champix to stop smoking many years ago. No cravings, no temptation, it was a though I was a non smoker. In the case of slimming jabs, you're a normal eater?

I do wish though that those on the jabs would stop saying they still have to diet. It's still difficult. Because if it alters the mind as Champix did for me and how that caller described, how is it difficult? Is it to fight back at naysayers? Well you are exactly the same as someone who got medical help to stop smoking, as I did.
Go for it OP.

CanILeaveMyJobPlease · 07/06/2025 14:46

Yes it will work at a high enough dose. I have just had lunch with my family. Feel so full after just a few mouthfuls I literally can't stuff anymore in even though I sort of want to. But I can't, so won't.
