Losing the will

Hello all. I'm very down. I'm about 5 stone overweight, I lost it all back in 2019/20 then it's gradually crept back on. When I try and do now what I did back then I lose about 4lbs then come to a halt.

I know about calorie deficit, I know I should eat less and move more but it feels so much harder this time around.

I'd love to start the weight loss injections but I really can't justify that kind of money every month.

Has anyone has any success with a tablet or any kind? I know orlistat would probably work but I'm afraid of the side effects 😬😬😬

I know I should be able to do this on my own but it just feels impossible!

I've done it! I've placed my order! I guess now I wait until they review then I will have a consultation??

@Emas82 I guess it depends on who you ordered with, what their process is.

Emas82 · 08/06/2025 13:43

I ordered with Medicine Marketplace

Well done on taking the plunge!

It always sounds like there's slight differences between how each pharmacy does things but that's the general idea.

Also, just FYI there'll be a thread somewhere around for June starters if you want to get support and chat with others who are at a similar stage to you.

And there's also an ongoing thread for those of us with 5st or more to lose, come and join us there too if you fancy. 😁

So they sent me a form to fill in which I cluded uploading a video of myself on the scales and also a picture of photo id. I've now had to book a video consultation and the first available date was Tuesday 24th June. I'm alright with that as it gives me time to plan and get my head in the right space.

That's useful info to know as I was considering swapping to Medicine Marketplace for my next pen, but that length of time is far too long for me to wait.

Emas82 · 08/06/2025 16:08

Yes I'm not sure if that is the usual or not. I've read other people's experience of medicine marketplace and no one has mentioned a delay like that.

I was a little like you at the start, going back and forth (‘dithering’) over whether I should or not. In the end I went for it because I realised that I was simply revving in neutral otherwise. I’d start each Monday afresh with plans that ‘this will be the week I finally lose weight’ but of course by Thursday I was back in the biscuit tin ‘rewarding’ myself for having been good for three whole days. It’s a vicious cycle of lose a pound, gain a pound and on and on for YEARS.

My weight loss in the first month hasn’t been dramatic - 8lbs in total but I’m fine with that as without MJ, I’d still be stuck in neutral with no loss at all.

In terms of how it makes you feel, everyone approaches it differently. I was already on a year long weight watchers plan (with their app) and I took the advice to base my meals around protein. I stocked up on fish, chicken and veg etc but whereas this would normally make me obsess about pizza or creamy pasta, I’ve found that with MJ, I just don’t care about food at all. I get hungry but when I do, instead of falling off the wagon, I find myself thinking about juicy vine tomatoes or lovely sour grapes. That’s totally unheard of for me. So in short, I’ve not had to try too hard and if I’ve ever been tempted to eat like ‘old me’, it was a fleeting thought that was very easy to swot away. I’ve got 4 stone to lose and I’m hoping to build up good habits that will ensure I stay fit and well when I eventually come off it.

For me, the turning point was asking myself ‘where will you be this time next month?’ I knew by staying I was, one month on I’d be in the exact same position of being fat and frustrated. Instead I’m here 8lbs lighter and that’s something I could not have done without MJ.

lunar1 · 09/06/2025 07:54

So glad you’ve ordered it, 5 stone took me 6 months, I want to lose one more. You’re absolutely worth spending some money on yourself.

This is brilliant, well done for taking the plunge. I lost 6st in 2019/20 by following slimming world then calorie counting. So the "how" isn't a problem, I know how to do it!
But now when I try I do well in first week (typically 3 or 4 lbs), second week is maybe 1lb, then completely stall and therefore give up.
I think there's a definite change in my body now at 42, compared to when I was losing at 36/37. Perimenopause maybe. But I don't want to go down that road 🤣
I've come to the conclusion now that I need some help/support and I'm hoping that's what mounjaro is for me.

@Emas82 I’m with medicine marketplace. I thought there was a bit of a delay getting a consultation but I kept checking the availability calendar and rescheduled for a week earlier. They have been good. I needed some support over which dose to reorder and the pharmacist rang me quite unexpectedly and we chatted through the options. She was very professional.

Ah ok I'll do that then, you just go into the link they originally sent to schedule?

@Emas82 yes through the original link. I can see from looking at the dates it’s fully booked but I think it’s worth checking daily as people do cancel. Good luck

Seahorsesplendour · 10/06/2025 19:56

Hope it comes soon for you @Emas82 I know once I’d made the decision I just wanted to get on with it!!!

@lunar1 that’s a great loss in that time!! I’ve got 7 to loose and was thinking might be 18months or so but maybe not!!! 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

Emas82 · 24/06/2025 11:05

Just thought I'd update you all and say I've had my consultation with Medicine Marketplace this morning, really lovely lady who spoke to me about medication in already taking and what to watch out for. Very knowledgeable and friendly, and I've been approved! Fingers crossed, it should arrive tomorrow. I'm excited and a bit apprehensive 😊

I lost 2.5st in 6m on daily Phentermine tablets. They cost around £100pm and were prescribed by a qualified clinician at a physical WL clinic (bodyline clinic if you are interested). I'm now on Mounjaro via online pharmacy and have lost a further 2st, this costs around £145pm. After both medications I'd recommend MJ rather than the tablets, they were like speed and kept me wired all day and then had insomnia at night, did reduce hunger though. MJ is a weekly injection and is much more efficient at reducing food noise cravings and feeling full quicker.

Edit, just read the full thread. Hope you get on well with MJ. I use MedicineMarketplace too, they've been really good.

BlackCatGreyWhiskers · 24/06/2025 13:02

To be really crass - I think the reduction in your food bill, especially if takeaways and alcohol etc features in your calorie excess, will easily cover the cost.

Thank you. I don't think it will necessarily offset the whole cost, we probs have 1-2 takeaways a month and I don't drink (little bit allergic!). But I do vape, so it will be interesting to see if it has any effect on my nicotine addiction!
I started calorie counting again yesterday, to get myself in the habit, as well as getting the lack of sugar headaches out of the way! (This always happens to me when I start eating healthier)
I'm managing with protein easy enough, but how does everyone get their fibre in? I thought I'd done well yesterday but had only had half the recommended amount!

OP posts:
Seahorsesplendour · 24/06/2025 19:58

It can be tricky!

Altho to be fair I don’t count! after a lifetime of counting calories and fibre and fat etc snd just getting fatter Ive given up!!

I’m just trying to be sensible & healthy!

If I’m having anything with a sauce (bolognaise cottage pie, stir fry etc I’ll add lentils as that increases protein & fibre.

if we’re having pasta I’ll have half wholewheat & half chickpea pasta.

I add chia & flax seeds to yoghurt, porridge & salad .

I Try & prioritise veg & fruit if I’m not that hungry along with protein.

I also take psyllium husk (whole grain capsules) I’ve not had any trouble with constipation which is an issue for some if I did would increase amount of capsules I take, I think they’re definitely helping keep everything moving!

hope that helps!!

definitely let us know how you go with the vape! Pepsi max is my big addiction & I’m down from 4 cans a day to 1 can a day so def saving lots there!!! I’m going to stop all together in theory!!

Emas82 · 24/06/2025 20:44

@Seahorsesplendour thank you so much, I really appreciate your replies 😊 I'm a bit fussy with a few foods (mainly pulses/bean, hate the texture, really wish I would like them!)
I might take taking a supplement for fibre, I'll see how the first few days go!

OP posts:
Seahorsesplendour · 24/06/2025 20:54

Good plan, also keep an open mind on textures & likes & dislikes! MJ does strange things!!! 🤭

2 months ago avacado & cooked beetroot made me 🤢 having them almost daily now 😂 interesting to see if I’ll go off them again on the other side!!
