First jab Monday night, I’ve had five guys, dominoes, wine…. Am I wasting my money?
I’ve had zero side effects at all.

Give it a chance. Not everyone feels its effects straight away.
It will build up in your system with ease dose.
Keep going if you can afford to and aren’t having bad side effects.

SilenceInside · 29/05/2025 21:35

Goodness me, it’s not even been a week. The initial dose level of 2.5mg does not necessary produce meaningful weight loss. If you lost nothing at all in the 4 weeks on this dose that would be within expectations. The amount in your system builds each week, so you may find that next week you start to notice the difference, or the weeks after that. Some people need the higher doses to get the intended effect, even up to the 15mg top dose. I wouldn’t say that it isn’t working for you until you’ve got to 15mg and done 4 weeks with no effect.

So, patience, it’s a long term process!

SmallFried · 29/05/2025 21:35

I'm on 12.5mg! Give it time! It gets better as you go up to higher doses. The low doses don't work for lots of us!

(I'm 25% of my body weight down, and I never found 2.5mg had much effect! Just b patient ... You'll get there!)

cestlavielife · 29/05/2025 21:39

Can you stop buying takeaways? five guys, dominoes is not going to be good.

Neverplayleapfrogwithmrpipes · 29/05/2025 21:42

I have lost 5.5st in a year on MJ.

It’s a tool for dieting, not something that is a magic pill. You have to try to eat high protein and veg. Try to cut down on carbs and that will help.

alcoholnightmare · 29/05/2025 21:43

Thanks every one, and @cestlavielifei hear you, but it’s SUCH an addiction I honestly can’t help it… despite having food which I can home make quickly in the fridge.
I wanted to look great for my 40th next month, but it doesn’t feel like that’s going to work now.
my husband left me a year ago, and I’ve piled on so much weight.
posting this photo so you can see me as I am now. I HATE myself… I used to be a very slim and (dare I say it) attractive size 10

2.5 mounjaro has made no difference 😔
OP posts:
Oneblueeye · 29/05/2025 21:44

Christ, have you read up on it at all? It's not a magic bullet which removes your appetite in one hit. Most people need to build up to higher doses to get an effect.

Olderbeforemytime · 29/05/2025 21:46

2.5 mg makes no difference for some people but wait for the second dose that is when it kicks in.

You need to start making healthy food choices. It doesn’t do that bit for you.

Next month?, expect to lose 1 to 2lb a month. You need to be realistic here.

SilenceInside · 29/05/2025 21:48

A month is such a short time, realistically you are going to lose between 4 and 8 pounds on an approx 500 cal deficit diet, maybe a bit more with water weight at the beginning.

Also, you look absolutely fine in that picture. I know you don’t like it, but as someone who doesn’t know you I see an active mum enjoying an activity with your children.

cestlavielife · 29/05/2025 21:50

You on the bike? You do not look huge at all
Get out there on the bike every day
And tell yourself no more takeaways

Branleuse · 29/05/2025 21:51

Ive found it helpful even at that dose, but most people need higher than that.

FortyElephants · 29/05/2025 21:52

What did you expect to happen? It's a long term medication. You aren't going to drop much weight in a month. It also won't stop you ordering dominos, you need to take it seriously!

NotsosunnyShropshire · 29/05/2025 21:53

2.5mg is not a therapeutic (ie working) dose. It’s to get your body used to it.

cherrycherrypickin · 29/05/2025 21:54

Thing is, even if MJ is working, you have to actively make good choices around food, it's not magic and you can fairly easily out-eat it.

Lundier · 29/05/2025 21:54

Oh, dear one, please don't hate yourself. Don't hurt yourself in this brutal way. You are a person and you need love and kindness. We all do. Please treat yourself kindly as you would any friend.

If you don't hurt yourself so much with this hatred, you may not need to salve the wounds so much with food. It isn't helping you. You can't hate yourself well, no one can.

Lovethesparklylights · 29/05/2025 22:06

I committed to eating healthy meals when I started and found I got more effect from the 5mg. 2.5 dose the packet actually says it it is get you used to it and it isn't a clinically significant amount. It's just to ease your body in.
Once you have a working dose, you will be very uncomfortable if you eat greasy fatty food like takeaway I found.

alcoholnightmare · 29/05/2025 22:07

Thank you every one, I hear you! I’ll of course give it more time… just so hard when I wear nothing but leggings or my bloody dressing gown as I can honestly not fit into 99% of my clothes

OP posts:
Koazy · 29/05/2025 22:07

It doesn’t work that quickly for lots of people

alcoholnightmare · 29/05/2025 22:10

Also, going swimming with my ex husband and three kids Sunday…. Already dreading being in a swimsuit infront of him.
cant avoid as need one adult per two children so we both have to go as three boys.
At the weekend, one of my 5yr olds innocently asked if I was having a baby as my tummy “looks like a baby there”. I was gutted but talked him through it. My ex husband laughed

Your ex husband is a cunt. Thank goodness he’s an ex. Sorry you have to put up with him for the sake of the children.

Yep, you need to count calories or follow some sort of healthy eating plan alongside the injections.
I could quite easily eat takeaways and rubbish if I chose to, it won’t magically stop you doing that.
You need to adopt a different mindset around making healthy food choices or else you will just like the weight back on once you come off the injections.

Oh OP! FWIW I don't think you look that big on the bike. You probably haven't got much to loose.

Mj will work, just give it time

I think I was a similar size to you a few months ago, hated how I look etc.. I did look pregnant as I store weight round my middle! But I'm now slim! Mj is fab, just give it time!

PoundsLost · 29/05/2025 22:19

I’m amazed you’re even eligible for it based on that photo.

lay off the takeaways. I’ve had very slow loss and not much suppression from 2.5 and 5mg but ate the veg and the protein (duck breast, fillet steak) and it is ok. But if you chow down on burgers and pizzas it won’t work, it’s not magic!

SpunkySquid · 29/05/2025 22:40

You’re pinning all your hopes on losing lots of weight in only a month on 2.5? That’s not realistic at all.

The more I read this forum, the more astounded I become at the sheer number of people who seem to do absolutely no research before starting.

InfoSecInTheCity · 30/05/2025 00:03

Mounjaro has been wonderful for me, but you have to do the work, it won’t do it all for you.

I think it’s important to understand how it works so that you can help it along and get the most out of it

How Mounjaro Works
Mounjaro is a dual agonist, meaning it activates two important hormone receptors:

  1. GLP-1 receptor (glucagon-like peptide-1)
  2. GIP receptor (glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide)

These hormones help regulate blood sugar and appetite after eating.

1. GLP-1 Effects:
Increases insulin secretion (only when blood sugar is elevated)
Reduces glucagon secretion (which helps prevent high blood sugar)
Slows gastric emptying (helps you feel fuller longer)
Reduces appetite, promoting weight loss

2. GIP Effects:
Also enhances insulin secretion
May help counteract some of the gastrointestinal side effects of GLP-1 drugs
Plays a role in fat metabolism and insulin sensitivity

By mimicking both GLP-1 and GIP, Mounjaro helps:
Lower blood sugar levels
Reduce appetite
Promote weight loss
Improve insulin sensitivity

You can help it along by changing your diet to increase protein, fat and fibre which increases satiety and helps to prevent muscle loss. You should be mindful of carbs and try to ensure that you are choosing complex carbs and eating them with a protein or fat. This helps to reduce blood sugar spikes which can make you feel hungrier. You do need to have a good idea of how many calories you are eating, because to lose weight you need to eat less calories then you use, so some people track everything, others are comfortable approximating, personally I track because I know that if I don’t then I’ll end up over consuming and not noticing.

You can also help by introducing more exercise, strength based to build muscle which increases metabolism and things like a brisk 20 min walk after eating because it helps to break down the sugar from the meal you’ve eaten.

You also need to ensure you are well hydrated, approx 2lts liquid a day because your body uses water in the process of breaking down and removing fat, it also uses it to heal muscles that are sore after exercise, if you don’t drink enough then you will retain water and weight loss will stall.

I’ve lost 5 stone since last September, started as a size 22/24 and today I did up a pair of size 10 jeans.

You can make this work but you won’t lose it all in a month, you have to prepare for this taking a while, the difference with using Mounjaro is that while I still have to work at it, I no longer feel starving hungry all the time, just normal hungry around mealtimes, so it’s so much easier to bear the diet and to keep consistent. Previous attempts it’s like a long slow torture and there’s only so many weeks you can spend every waking moment thinking about food, rumbling stomach, mouth watering and feeling up miserable before you crack and give in. It’s not been painful with Mounjaro so I’ve been able to just steadily chip away at the weight and focus on doing exercise and building stamina.
