How to take 1.25?

Hi, I have my first 2.5 pen but only want to take 1.25 each week as I'm really cautious of side effects.

I watched a YouTube video and it said to count to 30 clicks, I understand how to do it. But my question is, will I be able to do this 8 times? I've read about the pen locking after 4. How will I get the rest out?

Or is it a case that I can only have 4 x 1.25 out of the pen? Not the end of the world if so, but ideally I'd like 8 doses out of 1 pen if possible.

Thank you!

I think you misunderstood me.

OP isn’t willing to take the medication correctly, as prescribed, as she is scared of side effects but claims to be a risk taker becsue she is happy to take the medication outwith the recommended period.

That makes no sense. Too scared to take 2.5mg but not too scared to take it after it’s out of the 30 days.

i don’t know why people have to keep messing about with these meds. Just take as prescribed, within the time period recommended. It’s not even difficult.

Ah, yes, I understand you now. Apologies! 🙂

Thanks for your useful contribution to my thread.

As I've said, I was clearly joking about being a risk taker exactly because I didn't want to take a full dose. I don't care about the 30 days mind you, I honestly don't think it's gonna magically stop working on day 31.

I doubt the concern is it stops working more that it makes you ill because it’s expired.

No it's literally not that actually,
It is that allegedly it could be less effective, especially if out of the fridge.

And also I think contamination risk around the end of the pen? But may have imagined that second one.

But it's categorically not that the medication itself might become harmful.

It literally IS that. The preservative system in which the volitile and delicate peptide is immersed in has been demonstrated to work for 30 days.

If there is no data on its efficiency past that time then no-one can say whether the peptide itself might merely become ineffective OR might break down entirely and become harmful. Especially not your favourite tiktok idiot airhead. There is no 'allegedly' about it.

It is the same as injecting from a pen that has been frozen at some point. The peptide will denature which at absolute best will make it ineffective. At worst it may cause a massive allergic reaction because it is now a completely different chemical.

Preservative system injection drug vials used in hospitals etc are routinely discarded 30 days after the seal has first been broached for safety reasons rather than from fears that the drug may no longer be effective.

I personally think that if people take risks (and I am definitely someone who takes risks) then they should be informed risks. Parroting incorrect information and adding your own imaginings is not information.

I'm on 1.25mg and I'm planning 5 doses as it will keep me under the 30 days limit. I'm currently on week 3, so haven't experimented with doing more than 4 doses. I have had suppression, but nothing dramatic - I can still eat, but keeping to my low calories is fine, I'm not thinking about food like I would normally.

When researching this, Google pulled up the cache page from the manufacturer saying the medicine expires 30 days at ambient temperature but could be kept longer in the fridge. The cache was dated October 2024. On clicking on the (updated) page, there was no mentioned of MJ keeping for longer in the fridge. I wondered whether it was for marketing reasons that the expiry date was invented. I'm not going to do it, but it made me wonder...

Oh, forgot the important bit: I lost 4.5kg in my first 2 weeks. It is working 😊

Yes agree with pp that it’s the risk of contamination, the seal will have been broken more times than recommended by then, too. Not to say it will definitely make you ill or not work but it’s more of a risk. I’m currently in the situation myself as tapering down with a 5mg pen and won’t use it all within 30 days. I did 35 days for one pen and was fine but not sure how long I’ll go over with this one.

This is correct, but it refers to unused pens. Once the seal is broached it is 30 days whether in the fridge or not.

I wrote to the manufacturer because the wording was being bandied around on various SM sites and being taken to mean exactly what you are implying here, with the rest of the instructions -to dispose 30 days after first using - being completely ignored.

I posted the reply from Eli Lilly here:

They changed the wording in the instruction leaflet to be clearer after that.

Okay I've read so many discussions around this and I've searched including Eli Lilly's website and I agree with the few people who seem to have figure...

I would go in on 2.5, it's a tiny starter dose and most have no side effects at that level anyway. 1.25 seems a bit pointless
