How to take 1.25?

FiestyFeyre · 25/05/2025 21:10

Hi, I have my first 2.5 pen but only want to take 1.25 each week as I'm really cautious of side effects.

I watched a YouTube video and it said to count to 30 clicks, I understand how to do it. But my question is, will I be able to do this 8 times? I've read about the pen locking after 4. How will I get the rest out?

Or is it a case that I can only have 4 x 1.25 out of the pen? Not the end of the world if so, but ideally I'd like 8 doses out of 1 pen if possible.

Thank you!

It will only lock once you’ve reached 8x1.25 doses so 4x2.5 :)

Myneighboursnorlax · 25/05/2025 21:12

You’ll be able to get 8 doses out, as it locks based on number of clicks, but you can only have a pen open for a month…

User27563 · 25/05/2025 21:12

Yes, it limits it after the right number of clicks for 4 doses, not the number of times you inject.

You would however be over the 30 days usage limit once a pen is opened.

I personally do go over that by a week or two (always keep in the fridge throughout) but it's a personal decision whether you're comfortable with the risk.

Shmee1988 · 25/05/2025 21:26

The '30 day' rule is utter nonsense. I know people in other countries who take it and the stupid expiry date of 30 days doesn't exist. My friend was told by her GP that it's a load of crap. It's basically only on there because they want us buying a new pen every 4 weeks. If it weren't for the made up rule, everyone would by a 10mg pen and do a 2.5mg injection 16 times, 5mg 8 times etc.

FiestyFeyre · 25/05/2025 21:31

Oops I didn't know about the 30 day expiry. But I'm a risk taker (I already feel like I'm breaking 'the rules' by doing it this way!)

@Shmee1988totally agree! GP said the same!

User27563 · 25/05/2025 22:12

That's really good to know about the 30 day rule (have always gone over it and no harm has befallen me yet!)
But it will be a big help especially when experimenting with maintenance doses

SpunkySquid · 25/05/2025 22:15

Why not just try a full 2.5 dose? I’m on 10mg and have never had any side effects.

Because I've spent time reading this forum and the side effects are horrible for lots of people. I have kids and an intense job, I can't have time off with diarrhoea and sickness.

I thought the same before starting too but there’s actually lots of people who also don’t have any side effects. But you do you 🤷🏻‍♀️

TheNinthLock · 26/05/2025 10:38

I did 1.25mg for my first dose, for the same reason as you. I had no side effects. Not much suppression either. Bit of a wasted dose. I took 2.5 for my second and subsequent doses. Apart from a bit of nausea and some constipation, all fine.
Take one 1.25 dose to start. To put your mind at rest. And move up when you feel ready.

LittleBearPad · 26/05/2025 10:40

You aren’t sounding that much of a risk taker. Maybe just take it the way it’s meant to be taken

I was obviously joking but thanks for your helpful input

Took the 1.25 this morning, was easy. Went into tummy but I'll try all of the places to see if it makes any difference.

Need to find a good app to track everything with

Good luck!
If you are worried about side effects and work, you could shift injection day to Friday?
I inject on a Tuesday evening and have only ever had issues with bowels and burps on Wednesday afternoon to Thursday, peaking overnight Wednesday. (And not every week, mainly when moving up or if I've not taken care with what I've eaten injection day)

so if I didn’t have the option to wfh on Thursdays I’d probably inject Friday so I knew I’d be clear by Monday of any issues.

FiestyFeyre · 26/05/2025 17:50

That makes sense @User27563 I think I'll take next week's a day early on that basis then.

Shotsy looks good thank you @26dX just what I was looking for!

So you are happy to take a risk with medication outwith its recommended time limits but not take the actual dose as it’s prescribed? Makes all of no sense that.

To be honest, taking less than the prescribed dose is not exactly dangerous.
So I can't get excited about that - in fact I did it myself for the first dose (my body has a habit of overreacting to medication so I wanted to minimise potential horrid side effects, as it was it was completely fine)

I wasn’t suggesting taking less was dangerous.

So therefore it almost makes sense? Although yes, in conjunction with extending the 30 days it is a bit nonsensical, I give you that :)

I think you misunderstood me.

OP isn’t willing to take the medication correctly, as prescribed, as she is scared of side effects but claims to be a risk taker becsue she is happy to take the medication outwith the recommended period.

That makes no sense. Too scared to take 2.5mg but not too scared to take it after it’s out of the 30 days.

i don’t know why people have to keep messing about with these meds. Just take as prescribed, within the time period recommended. It’s not even difficult.

FiestyFeyre · 26/05/2025 18:27

Thanks for your useful contribution to my thread.

As I've said, I was clearly joking about being a risk taker exactly because I didn't want to take a full dose. I don't care about the 30 days mind you, I honestly don't think it's gonna magically stop working on day 31.

I consider it useful to remind people to stop messing with prescription meds and just use them as intended.

GrimDamnFanjo · 26/05/2025 19:30

Tbh you may end up not getting results at all with a dose so low.
