I've been calorie counting for the last 3 months 1300 calories a day it always worked for me before, but now in my early 40s and progress is so slow, I had one day at the weekend at an event I ate reasonably well chicken salad flatbread, but I did have an ice cream and stir fry for dinner at home, gained 3 pounds. It's impossible.
I have PCOS and insulin resistance so I think mounjaro would work for me. I am 15 st 7 and 5' 10.
I am due to go on holiday July 21st I'm tempted to start now too get a loss before but I'm also worried about side effects affecting our holiday, and we're away for two weeks without a grudge in the tin in a hot country so don't think I can take it with me.
Any advice from those who've been on it for a while? Do I just keep going with the current regime and maybe lose half a stone before I go and delay starting until I get back, do I start now and schedule doses so I do one the day I travel out and the day I travel home with a 14 day break?

I’d start now and take the pen with me so I didn’t miss a dose. You can get travel cases that keep the pen cool, and once a pen is in use it just needs to be kept under 30 degrees, if you don’t have access to a fridge.

Typos
Without a fridge in a hot country!

If you know you are going to get 4 doses from a pen you can calculate it on a calendar and plan your start date so you take a dose on your departure day and have 1 dose left in the pen to take while you are on holiday so you don't need to worry as much about the heat (only careful storage for 1 week both both weeks) and don't need to take it home with you.

I don't want to binge on holiday but a couple of glasses of wine in the evening would be nice if that going to make me ill on mounjaro? I don't really drink usually only really high days and holidays!

That's a good idea, so it's 4 doses per pen

A couple of glasses of wine is not going to make you ill at all. There’s no advice given to avoid drinking while on Mounjaro, other than the usual advice about a healthy diet. You can include alcohol in that if you want to.

OddBoots · 20/05/2025 08:36

There are 4 official doses in the pen. There is liquid left in the pen at the end of the 4th dose that some people will extract with a needle to get a 5th dose but that isn't officially sanctioned. You will know what your own personal attitude to that would be, if you planned to take that 'extra dose' it would be tricker to plan as you would need to bring a separate needle too.

ThinkingaboutMJ · 20/05/2025 08:40

Ok so where is best to order from? Google is a minefield

Look at the comparison site https://monj.co.uk

All the pharmacies there are GPhC regulated.

26dX · 20/05/2025 09:36

i also have PCOS and insulin resistance and it’s a game changer! Have sent you a message x

Time4changeagain · 20/05/2025 09:53

I’d start straight away, you can actually miss a week if you really needed to. I have nights out & drink as normal with no nasty side effects. As above use monj for best prices, I would avoid medexpress as they seem to be taking ages to send pens of lower doses at the moment from what I’ve read. No doubt you will have others saying different but also trying to get you to use their referral codes at the same time.

@ThinkingaboutMJ Hopefully you won’t get an email saying there is a delay

Oh no I've ordered from med express!

I received an email from med express on 14th saying there was a delay. Today I've been informed that it's been dispatched. Hopefully will receive tomorrow so that will be a week. It's my first order and is being sent to a local post office.

ThinkingaboutMJ · 21/05/2025 21:07

I got an email today to say there was an issue with my photos but not what the issue is , the photo is full length, natural light, fitted clothes (leggings and fitted t shirt) the only thing I can think is there is a white wardrobe behind me rather than a plain wall but the photo is really clear, I've taken another today and submitted, it's quite frustrating having been unsure about this for months, to take the decision and now there are hold ups

I ordered my first pen with medexpress 12 months ago. I’ve just looked at my photo 🙈 and I’m wearing the same. It’s full (ish) length in front of a mirror. There’s a window, tv & bed in background on it. If they can clearly see your size/shape there shouldn’t be a problem.
Id give them a call tomorrow and ask what the problem is/was.

Not the most flattering outfit! I took more last night and they were approved and prescription issued today, says it will be dispatched tomorrow!

Exciting! Have they dispatched yet? Do you know when you’ll get it?

It says awaiting despatch on medexpress but the RM tracking number says it was despatched on the 22nd I've not had a response to my query. It's not filled me with faith regarding medexpress to be honest. The other issue I now have is we are away Monday and Tuesday so if delivery is attempted then no one will be around to accept it

It's been 5 already and it's not even been dispatched and tomorrow is a bank holiday

I've been with medexpress since Nov and never had an issue. Delivery has always been really quick.

ThinkingaboutMJ · 25/05/2025 21:13

Just had a dispatch notification and we're away from tomorrow around 10 until Tuesday evening 🤦‍♂️ what happens if it's not refrigerated? Will royal mail.post it or take it back to the sorting office? The notification says to refrigerate immediately, that would be fine if it hadn't taken the best part of a week to be sent

Let us know how you are getting on @ThinkingaboutMJ 😊

I'm W1D3 and finding it all very easy so far. Appetite is definitely reduced and trying to eat more protein. A few food murmurs but absolutely no desire to follow through. Upped my water and weak SF squash to 2-3 litres 👍🏼
Had a headache yesterday which I thought might develop into a migraine - not sure if that was anything related but head down, 10 hours sleep and feel fine today. Weigh in at SW on thursday!

I'm curious about how to order a longer needle for 5th jab 🤔
