A thread to detail the tiniest details of your worrying side effects and share in support and guidance.

(Seriously, when I reacted badly to my first jab I felt pretty scared and lonely. I also felt self-conscious about dragging more positive threads down or scaring newbies).

Hi, yes agreed. It’s amazing that some have some side effects, some awful ones and some not at all? I wonder why? Anyway I am a bit worried about my second jab as I felt ill for 3 days after first jab. Not really much suppression and not a massive first week weight loss either. But having said all that I’ve changed my diet completely to high protein and healthy whole foods and not as much UPFs so is good. Hoping it’ll all work out in the end and to have some patience!
One great side effect is I’ve gone right off Diet Coke?!

Mounraine · 17/05/2025 15:45

At least worth finishing your first pen?

I think with side effects the best advice is to treat the symptoms 🤔.

Does anyone know if there's any real evidence on how long they last? I think I read that side effects diminish as your body gets used to drug, but I'm not sure how evidenced that is.

Hi I'm on week 11 and have had minimal side effects so far, constipation slightly nauseous sometimes, I kept to 2.5 for a few weeks and then up to 3.75 all fine, I was starting to get ravenous hunger breaking through so I decided to up to 5 thinking I'd be fine and the tales of the dreaded 5 wouldn't apply to me, well readers it did.
Jabbed Thursday as normal, had a small salad with sardines for lunch immediately started to feel nauseous, by Thu night I felt dreadful, sulphur burps incredibly tired, Friday morning I was violently sick and spent all day in bed exhausted ,today I feel ok but no hunger whatsoever, I've only eaten one protein shake in 24 hours, this is not what I want at all ,so just to say the side effects can hit at any time I think, I will persevere but I think it will be back to 3.75 this Thursday. I want some suppression but not this level.

BerfyTigot · 17/05/2025 16:29

I need to join! Week 1 day 4 and I've had 2 episodes of vomiting and multiple diarrhoea events. This morning it leaked through my pants and leggings onto to sofa throw. 🤢
Awful.

I'm still staying with it as I really need to lose weight, but I'm not looking forward to the next jab and I'm considering taking it once every 2 weeks. On the plus side, I'm barely eating

Mounraine · 17/05/2025 17:03

That's bad luck @Chilldrill :( Makes me think I'll never dare move up beyond 2.5mg!

That sound awful @BerfyTigot. I've only suffered from (pretty awful) constipation. Can you link it to any particular kind of food or drink??

OP posts:
BerfyTigot · 17/05/2025 17:09

@Mounraine I can't link it to anything yet. This morning I had a cup of tea and a small cup of skimmed milk (i take steroids and have to line my stomach). It could be the caffeine but I'd struggle to give it up!

MorrowTreasure · 17/05/2025 17:09

@Mounraine Yes I’m definitely going to persevere!
I wonder if the side effects are worse depending on what you eat the day before the jab? The only time I had the sulphur burps I had eaten a fair amount of fruit? But not sure what would cause the sickness/diarrhoea-maybe fat content? Or maybe sugar levels in food? Maybe it’s not work outable

ColdTofuSandwich · 17/05/2025 17:13

After my third jab I had sudden onset anxiety and depression. I had a mental health crisis im still recovering from 6 months later.

I was a ‘super responder’ though and lost 20lbs in 3 weeks - even the smell of food made me gag.

Im so pleased for those it works for, but 3/100 report serious mental health side effects. Which doesn’t seem to be that widely known about.

healthybychristmas · 17/05/2025 17:16

Where did you find out about the mental health side effects? I haven't heard of that and I've been following the news on it for a year, since I first started on it. Everyone I know who is on it is absolutely thrilled so it's a mental health benefit rather than a problem. Regarding side effects, I felt the most when I went up a dose. I did a month on 2.5, then a month on five and then started on 7.5. At the start of each of these months I had occasionally woken up with acid in my mouth and an overly full feeling. Since about the second month on 7.5 I haven't had any side-effects at all. I also had bad constipation three times but that was several months ago now.

Mounraine · 17/05/2025 17:18

I'm so sorry to hear that @ColdTofuSandwich. What exactly happened (I haven't heard of this quick-onset thing)? What did you do? What's happened to your weight since?
Obviously please don't feel obliged to explain anything.

@MorrowTreasure and @BerfyTigot Flowers. I must say I have been so careful with what I've eaten apart from this week. I was on holiday, only jabbed 1.9mg last week and so by day 6 I just lost my head. Had pizza, chips and biscuits the day before jabbing. But no discernible change in side effects. Such a puzzle.

OP posts:
MrsPositivity1 · 17/05/2025 17:24

@Chilldrill I started 5 mg on Thursday morning and felt exactly the same. Sulphur burps, nausea, ate a small amount last night and felt wretched. I’ve slept a lot today so hopefully things start to improve. I was like this first week on W1 with 2.5mg so 🤞

MrsPositivity1 · 17/05/2025 17:24

Ps thank you @Mounrainefor start ing this thread

ColdTofuSandwich · 17/05/2025 18:01

Just google ‘mounjaro anxiety’ and you’ll see what I mean.

It came on overnight, felt a bit twitchy on the Sunday, woke up on the Monday morning in a right state - I think it had stopped my anti depressants working properly. There are known issues around absorption of medication - for example birth control pills.

It is very positive for many many people which is great, but anxiety is absolutely a known side effects.

if you do suffer from this, it’s good to know you’re not the first I think. My GP initially said it wasn’t the jab as no link to anxiety - second appointment she told me to stop the jab as there is a rare side effect in some people.

as an aside I also tried wegovy and that sent me into a very slow depression but nothing as dramatic. I should have learnt my lesson!

ColdTofuSandwich · 17/05/2025 18:03

Sorry to answer questions OP - I carried on taking anti depressants and stopped jab. Of the 20lbs I put about a stone back on - but I wasn’t eating anything on the jab so that’s not a shock. Just doesn’t suit me (sigh).

Mounraine · 17/05/2025 18:14

Thank you for answering @ColdTofuSandwich. So you lost about a stone and a half, and kept about half a stone off?

I do sometimes wonder if all of these side effects and risks are worth it. Then I see an amazing Before & After and get sucked back in.

OP posts:
Chilldrill · 17/05/2025 18:18

@MrsPositivity1 sorry you've been ill too. It took me by surprise because I hadn't had anything really before, I responded really well to 2.5 straight away, I've heard many stories of the dreaded 5 jump up though. I'm really having to force myself to eat today, I don't want that at all.

ColdTofuSandwich · 17/05/2025 18:23

I’ve lost another half a stone the old fashioned way.

my niece had catastrophic diarrhoea 😬😂 and had to stop but felt great otherwise.

lots of people have good stories from it, but I think it can be easy to forget these are powerful drugs that are changing your chemistry. I thought I’d researched really thoroughly too but it’s obviously just not suited to me

I think half of me just hoped I'd be one of the lucky ones who didn't get any side effects and the other half presumed it just wouldn't work on me. It feels too good to be true. Like, even tonight I can feel a pain in my chest. Is it pancreatitis or a badly-fitted bra?

Edit - oops, my main point was to congratulate you on your continued success!

@Chilldrillhow are you today? I have a bad headache but thankfully the sickness has gone

Chilldrill · 18/05/2025 13:35

@MrsPositivity1 I'm feeling ok ISH, still hardly eaten anything, the suppression is off the scale. Not good really, it's not been my experience so far ,I've had suppression but still felt hungry enough to eat. Glad you're not feeling sick anymore.

Mounraine · 18/05/2025 14:45

Do you find the suppression and nausea wear off as the week goes on?

OP posts:
Chilldrill · 18/05/2025 15:48

@Mounraine up until now(I'm on week 11) I've only suffered mild nausea and yes it has waned as the week rolled on, as has the suppression, but going up to 5 this time has been on another level, I jab on Thursday and will be going back down to 3.75 , I'd rather have the hunger breaking through than feel completely ambivalent towards food, it's not sustainable. Reading round this drug it seems that it's not a linear journey for some but maybe a case of finding your sweet spot.

hopeMJ · 18/05/2025 16:05

I’m 13 jabs in. Four weeks on 2.5 were grand. Four weeks on 5 and definitely experienced some anxiety but nothing too bad. Also going through stressful time and I think the binge monster overruled the MJ towards the end of four weeks- I thought I needed to move up. Took one 5.67 (golden dose) and started to get a few sulphur burps but nothing terrible. Then took a 6.25 and two days later I had awful D and V for days and days. I have IBD so was so scared that I was starting to flare and my MJ journey would need to end. I delayed my next dose by a few days to make sure I was clear of symptoms and took 5. Again two days later same again but for a much shorter period. Took 3.75 last night - feel ok today but will have to see how day 2 goes tomorrow.

overall, it has completely gotten rid of my normal IBD discomfort which even without the weight related stuff has been soooo amazing!

shotsy has the peak of MJ in system on day 2 so on 6.25 and the cumulative effect of the previous doses I had levels around 8 when my side effects were the worst. I think I need to find a way to keep it no higher than 6. Maybe…

Mounraine · 18/05/2025 16:32

That sounds like a good improvement @Chilldrill !

@hopeMJ thats a good tip - comparing side effects to Shotsy levels and finding a happy level.

W3D3 and, I think, side-effect-free!
