Myjuniper - pissed off

Peluga · 13/05/2025 02:02

I am very overweight, classed as obese . I have finally realised that I can't lose weight consistently on my own - I don't have the willpower, so I signed up to myjuniper last week and asked for mounjaro.

Had to send my passport info plus full length selfies - very hard to do! Was wearing pyjamas which they had said was fine.
They took the money the next day but have left me hanging on for a week waiting for a consultation with the pharmacist. Then very late this evening I suddenly got a message from the pharmacist saying my photos weren't good enough - they wanted 2 more showing my stomach 'unclothed'. Had to get DH to help this time. I did it though and sent them in, thinking it would get them moving, but now I feel annoyed and embarrassed, why was this necessary? Nobody sees that except me! The pharmacist didn't reply back after that.

I feel they are being intrusive and also unresponsive. It is also not on to take the money and go silent for a week, surely they should only take it when they are about to dispatch the product.

Has anyone had a similar experience?

dont be disheartened!! You don’t need to justify what you are taking it either! It’s fab I’ve lost three stone since January! Two more to go!

The process sounds similar to my experience -needed a full body mirror picture to be review money taken at order.

Have you read any of the threads on here? Lots of people get rejected photos. Needs tight fitting clothing. Best is light colours or bra and pants!!

Unfortunately just remember it’s an impersonal semi-automated procedure and you will be in a queue of others waiting to be processed and got rejected and now you have resubmitted go to the back of the queue.

Good luck in your journey!

xanthomelana · 13/05/2025 03:58

It’s probably because so many people are lying about their BMI to get MJ. There’s loads of threads on here where people are asking how to get around the restrictions, I know it seems intrusive to have to send pics like that but unfortunately it’s for good reason. Once you are approved you shouldn’t have to send anymore unless you change suppliers.

Caffeineneedednow · 13/05/2025 04:25

Sorry OP I agree with the pp this is somewhat standard with all current suppliers. The general pharmaceutical council (GPhC) who oversee pharmacies have put extra pressure on the pharmacies to ensure the individuals getting the drug meet the criteria as pp have said this is due to avoiding its misuse.

The taking payment on order is also pretty standard I am afraid.

Weepixie · 13/05/2025 04:42

Honestly Op, the stricter pharmacies are when supplying the medication the better it is for people using it because, it’s only by being strict that cheats who lie their way into being prescribed it wont be able to get it anymore and those who argue against the use of the meds will have to shut up about the cheats.

Anyhow - just recently I collected my pens from a pharmacy in London and one of the pharmacists was having quite a time of it on the phone with someone who wanted a prescription despite being turned down by two other pharmacies due to an underlying health condition. I’d have lost the will to live (it was so intense)!and told the person to sod off but after the phone call had ended the pharmacist told me the customer could have been a telephone mystery shopper, they also get them instore, and that she was glad it could have been a mystery shopper even though she now had a headache.

I think the only thing your supplier’s done that raises my eyebrows is taking your money before approving you. I’d give them 48 hours to come up with the approval or otherwise and tell them if you don’t have a decision in that time you’ll contact your bank.

Weepixie · 13/05/2025 04:44

I disagree - my payments has only ever been taken the day the pens were being dispatched to me. It’s not acceptable what Myjuniper have done taking it now.

Peluga · 13/05/2025 05:19

Hmm, but I am obese, you could see that from the pictures I already sent in. How could I fake that? I am sure it didn't look like I had a cushion down my front or something! it was so tricky to do as well, had to get a full length mirror down from the wall etc. And now I feel so embarrassed that the pictures of my bare huge tummy are out there, it's humiliating. Who will see them, can I ask for them to be deleted?

But I did it... And now they can't be bothered to get back to me?

I kind of thought I'd get a phone call where they'd go through everything. But now I have lost trust in them and their process. I thought you'd get more individualised support.

Was worrying about the injections anyway as I've never done that, I'd rather have taken a pill. And now I keep seeing stuff about people who have awful side effects. I feel like giving up with the idea and trying really hard by myself, maybe with the Michael Mosley books.

Op, it sounds as if WLI aren’t for you. Not because they’re not fabulous but because you seem very angry and disgruntled even before you’ve started them.

So yes, it’s probably best to try something else.

Peluga · 13/05/2025 05:36

Yes maybe! It's really put me off them today anyway. Perhaps I would have been better going to a local pharmacy or something. That might have eliminated the need for photos, they could have seen for themselves I am a genuine candidate.

And now I keep seeing stuff about side effects and health complications...

It might have been easier to ask DH to take the photos on the first place. I applied yesterday and did that, it didn’t occur to me to attempt a selfie! I had to hold up a piece of paper with the date on. I haven’t heard back about whether I’ve been accepted for mounjaro but I assumed the strict requirements for photos were because people were attempting to get hold of it when their BMI was under the guidelines for prescribing.

Peluga · 13/05/2025 05:50

No I get the concept that some people are trying to fake it, but I am hardly a borderline case! , it's obvious as soon as you see me tbh.

It told you on the instructions to do a selfie, and at the time there was nobody else around to ask anyway.

I’m not a borderline case either unfortunately 🤣 it is what it is I guess. I did think it was a lot to go through before we even know if we’re accepted but hey ho!

Why? Do they not work for angry people? Weird judgey comment.

Photos are usual but having to show your stomach is not! I'd leave and ask them to delete my data.

Really? I've ordered from couple of pharmacies now (never juniper) and they all take money before approving. Fairly standard in my experience. I suspect it's because they want to ensure people will actually go through the process before investing a phaemacist's time to prescribe.

Weepixie · 13/05/2025 08:36

Honestly Op, being fat is also unhealthy and comes with risks including serious illness and the increased possibility of early death. And that’s even before we start to think about things like not being able to help ourselves to any extent when it comes to avoiding an accident for eg because we’re not fit or fast enough to.

But quite honestly with your anger about the pictures you’ve had to provide for your assessment, along with you now thinking about possible side effects and complications, it seems you’re looking for excuses not to start the medication. And that’s okay, but I would have thought by the time a person gets to the stage of starting the process they’d have done all the thinking they had to do beforehand. You don’t seem to have done this which is why I think it’s not for you yet, if ever.

Weepixie · 13/05/2025 08:39

@Burnserns I’m with Mayfair clinic via My London Pharmacy and if my pen is due to be dispatched on the morning of the 28th for eg my payment would be taken between midnight and 1 am on the 28th.

Yes, this. The pharmacists cost money to employ so they don’t want to spend time on your order if your payment then fails. It’s less of an issue when it’s 24 hours to approve than several days though. I think a lot of the pharmacies are suffering from high demand and longer processes by the sound of it.

I’m afraid also it’s probably way more common than we’d imagine that people are sticking stuff down their fronts etc. I sent photos in my bra and pants, and gym leggings too, so there was no place to hide. If we could go to an in-person clinic and be weighed in front of someone etc I’m sure we’d all be a lot happier but that’s just not an option for most of us.

My current prescriber has moved to video consultations where you get on the scales and show the weight. Obviously that still isn’t going to stop someone putting weights in their pockets etc but it’s way better than photos.

I think they are the outliers here. Most online suppliers take payment before pharmacists review.

Peluga · 13/05/2025 08:59

I do know about the dangers of being obese @Weepixie though, I realise I am killing myself slowly (or maybe not so slowly 🙁)

I've generally felt nervous about this method of weight loss medication . But got to the point last week of being ready to take this major step and just going for it. After all, I suppose I'd be unlucky to get the side effects anyway....

But the way I have been dealt with by myjuniper has made me feel I don't trust them. It's a very personal thing. But I realise that I probably shouldn't allow my feelings about them to put me off mounjaro altogether.

Perhaps the best thing would be to start again with a different provider, even if they're a bit more expensive.

Livewell are cheaper than juniper. I think juniper are one of the most expensive. Honestly give them a ring when they open, they were so fantastic with me.

(Again I don't work for them and I'm not affiliated, I'm just very very happy with them).

SilenceInside · 13/05/2025 09:03

There are lots of providers who are cheaper or similar priced to Juniper, have a look on https://monj.co.uk for a list of regulated suppliers and check a few out.

Chocchips123 · 13/05/2025 09:07

I was watching a video about weight loss as I'm an emotional eater and they said losing weight is basically a mindset of discipline rather than motivation. I've 3 stone to lose roughly.
