Foods you've gone off unexpectedly

I've been on MJ since October and haven't fancied McDonald's, KFC, chip shop etc. since starting. All expected. With the nice weather this last week or so I've been thinking about eating salads - and have absolutely no desire for one, despite loving salads before.

Anyone else gone off something healthy they previously loved?

Scrambled and poached eggs. I am fine with hardboiled and eat one most days, but just don't fancy scrambled and poached anymore. Poached used to be my go to easy lunch /dinner when I couldn't be bothered making something else.

Pepsi Max probably doesn't count as "healthy".

Conversely to you, I am absolutely loving salads now, could take or leave them before but I go through bags of Unbeleafable salad baby leaves every week now - sometimes with fish! Either salmon, tuna or, new one this week smoked mackerel, again things I would have never enjoyed before. I got some Florette mixed salad when Tesco was out of stock and just couldn't eat them - tasteless and tough. Really recommend trying Unbeleafable.

Mounjarocaro · 04/05/2025 19:45

@WeAllHaveWings I haven't tried Unbeleafable but baby leaf salad I would eat a few times a week with cherry (piccolino or similar) tomatoes, cucumber, red pepper, yogurt coleslaw, some nice flavoured beetroot from Marks topped with balsamic glaze, but it just doesn't appeal to me anymore 😒

I've also gone off fizzy drinks, although I am drinking a flat pepsi max right now (2l bottle been open for days, which would have been gone in a day before).

Strawberries and tomatoes I can’t stand anymore but I now quite like black olives but not green ones

Mysticmaiden · 04/05/2025 19:49

Pasta, pizza, cheese, crisps, chocolate, desserts, biscuits, tea, chips, fast food - if I'm really desperate and don't want to cook I just have a burger without any sides. I used to love pizza and I was a cheese addict, barely touched any of them in 7 months. Strangely enough the only time I crave any carbs now is when it's time of month or my dose has worn off and im ready to go up.

ivegotthekeyivegotthesecret · 04/05/2025 19:54

Crisps and all alcohol

Mounjarocaro · 04/05/2025 20:02

See, I was expecting to go off the pizza, crisps etc. but the salad has really surprised me.

Chocolate, bacon, eggs in all forms

Redlightbulb · 04/05/2025 20:15

Fruit. Which isn’t great. Wasn’t a huge fruit eater before but have only eaten a few grapes in 9 months. I think as not snacking in between meals.

Also pizza. No pizza in 9 months.
Only 1 takeaway and that wasn’t my choice. I ate out of politeness as was eating at someone else’s house. That was fish & chips.

FunnyCrabDance · 04/05/2025 20:24

Moka pot /strong italian style coffee, used to have most mornings, but not a single one since February.

CatSnackTagine · 04/05/2025 20:26

Most junk food but yes, also salad, specifically lettuce and rocket
Salmon
Coffee
Cheese
Flatbreads and wraps
Eggs
Lots more that I can't think of right now but it's given me a sort of ARFID type sensation

Beinthepresent · 04/05/2025 21:54

I've also gone off salad just tastes awful especially cucumber.

IsThisLifeNow · 04/05/2025 22:00

Fizzy drinks, used to drink loads, but rarely drink it now. Gone from buying maybe 10 litres a week to practically none. I buy cans now as if I do have one then at least it's fizzy instead of a 2 litre bottle that's lost its fizz

Mysticmaiden · 04/05/2025 22:06

Fish and fruit too, I love fish yet the thought of salmon or cod is off putting, always used to enjoy scrambled egg for weekend breakfast, not tried it in 7 months now. I think fruit is because its sweet.

laughinglovingliving · 04/05/2025 22:11

Breaded chicken in all forms. It doesn’t like me anymore. And fizzy drinks. I have tried everything but can’t find one that I like or that likes me!

Slightyamusedandsilly · 04/05/2025 22:12

Soooooooooo many things. In fact, the list of what I actually like now is tiny.

Tea is my favourite thing now.

VivIsBlonde · 04/05/2025 22:23

I’ve had to change what I eat completely just as I started using MJ due to testing positive for an awful lot of intolerances 😢
I can now easily drink 2 litres of coke a day!
im trying to not eat as much fruit as I find I lose more the weeks I don’t eat much, I can only eat bananas the day I buy them or the day after, once they get a proper yellow colour and start going soft I can’t eat them, I get bad belly aches!
I tend to eat porridge for breakfast, chicken thighs for lunch and meat & salad for tea most days, I’ve always been a big meat eater and my butchers bill is always between £30-£40 every week!!

stillshrinkingthisspring · 04/05/2025 22:28

I could eat baby spinach leaves, but I don’t fancy lettuce at all. Salads have to be robust now.

Mounjarocaro · 04/05/2025 22:32

@VivIsBlonde I made the mistake of sending DH to the butcher's on his own yesterday. Just over £100 later we have lots of barbecue type bits and pieces that would go perfectly with a lovely salad!! He did buy the "proper" meat for meals for the week that was on my list but that's the last time he goes to the butcher's unaccompanied!!!!

I wonder if it's to do with the dopamine signals being muted by the WLI so something I used to love doesn't hold the same appeal for me now.

Sounds like your husband bought some nice things
We always buy the flavoured BBQ meat from our butchers, also they make their own stir fry foods which are very nice and award winning sausages 😋🤤

To be fair, he did buy some nice things but I would usually spend around £65 for the week (DH and two young adult sons at home who are all big meat eaters). There's a couple of things he bought though that I can't eat at all as I'm gluten intolerant. It doesn't seem to occur to him that food covered in bread crumbs will have an unwelcome effect on me.

Not gone off but im pleasantly surprised how much cheese I have left.. I used to get through loads, but obviously not eating so much it lasts so long now..

I’ve got to avoid breadcrumbs too, men haven’t got a clue lol I’ve got quite a lot of intolerances and every time we go shopping he’s like are you allowed this or that 🤣 i just get a delivery for anything extra for myself and let him have what he buys from the supermarket!

TweetingHurricane · 05/05/2025 18:17

Can I ask everyone, do you feel sad that you don’t like your old favourites? Or because it’s not forever are you looking forward to going back to enjoying them sometimes once you come off?

Maarva · 05/05/2025 18:31

I don’t mind going off things, it is a relief not to nag myself into eating them. I’ve gone off most food but the thing I notice most is I’ve really gone off tea and coffee. The thing I most like eating is yogurt.

@VivIsBlonde I often get phone calls letting me know he's calling to Greggs or similar and do I want anything. I've started leaving a pause and then hanging up. It might be rude, but nothing is getting through to him.

@TweetingHurricane I feel sad about the salad. I used to really enjoy it. The most I can force myself to eat now is cherry tomatoes and yogurt coleslaw (I've gone off the usual mayo type since discovering most of the supermarkets are now offering a yogurt version with red cabbage).
