Foods you've gone off unexpectedly

I've been on MJ since October and haven't fancied McDonald's, KFC, chip shop etc. since starting. All expected. With the nice weather this last week or so I've been thinking about eating salads - and have absolutely no desire for one, despite loving salads before.

Anyone else gone off something healthy they previously loved?

@VivIsBlonde I often get phone calls letting me know he's calling to Greggs or similar and do I want anything. I've started leaving a pause and then hanging up. It might be rude, but nothing is getting through to him.

@TweetingHurricane I feel sad about the salad. I used to really enjoy it. The most I can force myself to eat now is cherry tomatoes and yogurt coleslaw (I've gone off the usual mayo type since discovering most of the supermarkets are now offering a yogurt version with red cabbage).

I can imagine, it’s lovely to have salad on warmer days. When you get to target hopefully you’ll be able to enjoy them again

Oblomov25 · 05/05/2025 20:48

I've gone off most food. Only really strong tasting things do it for me now, onion, chilli, chicken, minted lamb chops. Sad really.

winnieanddaisy · 05/05/2025 20:50

I’ve totally gone off butter and sandwich fillings . I now eat dried bread without any accompaniments for breakfast 🤣.

ShaunaSadeki · 05/05/2025 21:00

I have gone off potatoes, especially mash and those nice sachets of cooked flavoured grains. So I guess it is a carb thing.

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 05/05/2025 21:08

Went off steak for quite a while and still wouldn’t eat one by choice. Had roast beef yesterday and enjoyed it whilst eating it but had a really nasty meaty aftertaste for hours. Weird!

It must be such a strange feeling after loving food all your life and then being unbothered about it and even put off it. This must be how people who have always been naturally thin feel, and it suddenly makes sense how it’s so easy for them

Yes, exactly. Though I still really enjoy good food, but it has to be really good for me to be properly excited by it. I wouldn’t be bothered with a custard cream, though I always loved them.

PoisonIvy89 · 05/05/2025 22:14

nearly all of it but especially carbs, and my coffee is now too sweet.

It sounds perfect. I feel like I’ve wasted a lot of my life on shit food that was on hand in the cupboard. Cheap bread, cheap butter, beige crap etc etc
I’ve finally got to a stage in life where I only break my healthy eating for amazing food, food that is worth the calories, also means I don’t regret it. But it took getting to my 40s. It’s so great that these jabs exist and I’ll try them if I ever let the binger in me take over again.

I have gone off so much food that I used to love. Which is a good thing because it was all bad in the amounts I used to eat it.
I loved rich food with loads of flavour - anything creamy, cheesy, slow cooked fatty meats. Complex recipes!!
Stir fried rice - loved it. Don't want it but I miss not wanting it.
Chocolate - I ate some the other day - literally I'm about to start my period and it was good. I also didn't feel guilty about eating it. I also don't feel the need to eat any more. Which honestly is the best thing ever! Have it once a month and be done?!! Like normal people?
Also I didn't mind a beige food session in the air fryer. Now not bothered.

I am enjoying salads though. I also am no longer a fan of thin leafy lettuce. I've just bought some baby gem lettuce and might use the whole leaves to scoop up chopped tomatoes, cucumbers and onion.
I haven't had sunflower oil in the house - olive if necessary (crying at the cost). And saturated natural fats for any taste.

Meat - all good.
Fish - all good!

Yoghurt - all good as well.

Alcohol - no longer is as exciting, dopamine hit gone but quite happy to sip a drink in the evening

It's actually made me quite sad, I feel like I've had a loss. It's been an eye opener though. I wonder what long term will be like?

Redlightbulb · 07/05/2025 10:46

Gone off coffee as well.
Used to drink a couple of cups a day with sugar free caramel syrup but stick to tea now.

Ashabeth · 07/05/2025 13:44

I have completely gone off coffee to the point that I struggle if DH tries to kiss me after his morning coffee. Bless him, he's swapped to tea and then has a coffee when he gets to work!
As a seasoned drinker and someone that was used to drinking wine daily, I no longer can stomach it... It's a blessing really but I do feel bad when I can't join DH in sharing a bottle together. I've bought some gin for the weekend as we're child free and would usually enjoy a drink together.
Drink aside, I've gone off crisps, carb-heavy meals and red meat... I enjoy very plain chicken salads and fish dishes most now, which is insane to me!

TweetingHurricane · 07/05/2025 14:45

All the coffee posts are interesting. I wonder if it being a drug that it interacts with the weight loss drugs? I would have thought coffee wouldn’t change for people as most seem to need it to function

RainbowZebraWarrior · 07/05/2025 14:48

Salmon. Had it last night and it tasted disgusting. And the house smelled. Tbh, the quality of salmon has really declined in the last few years and the price has shot up, so I've saved myself a bit of money by saying no more (as I double bagged the stinky remnants that I didn't eat)

Adelstrop · 07/05/2025 17:54

I haven't exactly gone off it, but pre-MJ I was a real cheesoholic. Cheese and crackers - I could put a lot of that away! Hardly any cheese gets eaten now, and the cheddar is sadly mouldering away in the fridge.

SlippySausage · 07/05/2025 23:38

Only done one week, but I have gone off milky things. Then today I ordered a glass of wine, salmon and mackerel at a lunch out and all three made me feel bleurgh. I wonder if it's the fat in the fish.

aylis · 07/05/2025 23:46

Tuna. Even the thought of it makes my stomach clench, I don't know what's happening there as before I would easily eat it 2-3 times a week. I've eaten tuna once since starting the jags in February.

Eggs have gone the opposite way, I used to only be able to stomach them once in a while but now I'm eating a lot of eggs.

slowlyswimming · 08/05/2025 00:52

Coffee still smells nice but I just don't want to drink it (I only drank decaf anyway so I'm not missing out on the good stuff).

Plain water I'm not interested in unless very cold and then rarely, I crave sparkling water (dusted off the old soda stream and hoping for the best for my teeth!).

Garlic smells repulsive now.

Similar aversions to whilst pregnant but without the accompanying nausea / metallic taste.

So strange!

Gingerkittykat · 08/05/2025 20:12

I've lost my spice tolerance.

I loved chilli, curries and any other hot food but now they just make my mouth burn.

Lobsterteapot · 08/05/2025 20:13

Pasta absolutely turns my stomach now. Loving seafood, anything pickled and fruit and veg

UsernameShmusername2024 · 09/05/2025 20:47

I've gone on coffee and am not drinking anywhere near as much tea either. I have a few things that I've never particularly liked that suddenly I really fancy often - tuna, avocado, herbal teas. And rich tea fingers have become my big treat 😅 I've also gone off salad leaves! I was expecting to really embrace salads and bought some pickles, sweety drop peppers, articokes etc to make them more interesting but I want the meat/fish whatever plus the accompaniments but really, really don't want the salad leaves!

Bellyblueboy · 10/05/2025 18:50

Cream cakes, crisps, carrot cake, sweets.

oh and I drink a lot less wine! Rarely pour myself a glass now.

tryingtobesogood · 16/05/2025 16:27

I’ve just had a square of galaxy chocolate, not had chocolate for months and months. It tasted salty. Has it always been salty? Thought it was horrible.

idrinkandiknowthings · 20/05/2025 13:51

I wouldn't say "gone off" entirely, but milk! Used to have whole milk but switched to semi and I'd drink literally glasses and glasses of it daily. Since MJ I hardly even have a swig. Very odd.
