How much weight loss until you're out of 'obese'?

ItsLikeClimbingAMounjaro · 06/04/2025 10:36

I've had a positive start (first week) and it's nice to see the graph/stats on Shotsy BUT I've just made the mistake of looking how much weight I'll have to lose to even just be 'overweight' 😭

Current BMI 33.4

3 stone to go from Morbidly Obese to Obese. 3 pounds of that to go.

5 more stone to go from Obese to Overweight.

I’m not even aiming that high. If I can get to BMI of 32 and under 200lbs, that would be miracle enough. Shedding 6 stone would make an enormous difference to my daily life and my health.

sweetpickle2 · 07/04/2025 11:39

When I started it was 14kg, now its just 1kg till I'm into the overweight category!

InfoSecInTheCity · 07/04/2025 12:12

When I started August last year I had 21lb to go from obese to overweight. I take it for T2 diabetes so lucky enough to be prescribed on NHS.

I’m now 60lbs down, in the healthy BMI range and working my way towards the middle, somewhere around BMI 22 is the goal, but will be guided by the remaining belly flab.

Out of curiosity (I'm miles and miles away from my goal and not diavetic) but if you are diabetic does that mean you'll need to stay on MJ long term and if so do they reduce the dose if you keep losing weight or does it just even out eventually as your body won't know the goal in your head (if that makes sense).

I have been wondering this about people on maintenance whether the body just keeps losing or if it eventually reaches a balance ( I am also fearful my body will decide that's higher than a healthy bmi!)

I created a blank version and hosted it in Google Drive a while ago because someone said it would be useful to have so if you want a copy it’s here

plan is to use it indefinitely for me. I get my HbA1C tested every 3(ish) months at the moment and since starting Mounjaro it’s gone from 11% to 5.7%. Diabetes is diagnosed when it hits 6.5% so MJ has put me into remission.

I am currently on 10mg, will titrate down to 5mg when weight goal is hit or if bloods indicate sugar levels are getting low but I’d feel if that were the case because there would be physical symptoms of low blood sugar. Will then stay on 5mg indefinitely. The NHS consider the .5 doses to be for titration purposes only so used to get from 0-5mg, then 5-10mg, then 10-15mg, they don’t consider them long term doses and that’s because the research studies were done on whole doses only so that’s where all the data is.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 07/04/2025 15:14

Wow that's an amazing result for the diabetes!!!

I'm on shemed and they're following that for. 5 doses too.

I'm on 5 and currently losing. So potentially I could just keep losing until it settles....

My mind boggles with the magic of it al!!

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 07/04/2025 15:14

(And thankyou for explaining!)

I stayed on 5mg for 20 weeks before moving up. I only moved up because weight loss had slowed, so I took a chance when I had a diabetes review and the Doc agreed I could, otherwise I’d have stayed on 5mg.

PurpleCoo · 07/04/2025 20:12

It would have been 16kg from starting weight.
I am almost 8 weeks in, and I have 6.2kg to go.

I hadn't realised that until I just calculated.to answer this thread. That actually feels really good, and easily achievable

Lovegame · 07/04/2025 20:13

I reached over weight today. 1 stone and 8lbs down.

Are you still taking other diabetic meds as well as Mounjaro? I’m due to start jabs Friday with diabetic nurse but still need to take 2 x 500g of metformin alongside, my latest bloods showed HBA1c is down to 47 today from 51 3 months ago but BMI is 47.5. Following these threads for a while and looking forward to seeing some good results, you have done amazingly.

FeatherChops · 07/04/2025 20:46

You’ll be a amazed how quickly the time flies by

I started at a BMI of just under 36. It’s now about 22. Took me about 10 months all in all and I’ve maintained at between 9 stone 7 and 9 stone 10 for 4 months now

FeatherChops · 07/04/2025 20:47

Oh and I’ve never gone above 7.5 and I’ve always eaten 1500 calories a day.

InfoSecInTheCity · 07/04/2025 21:15

@52soon I was initially taking insulin twice a day and 4x 500mg metformin a day but had a freestyle Libre sensor and noticed within a few days of starting MJ that my sugars were going really low so was advised to stop the insulin. Over the next few weeks I reduced down the metformin to 2 a day, then 1x slow release just in the morning. By 6 or 7 weeks in I was off of everything except the MJ.

Sherrystrull · 07/04/2025 21:17

I’ve got 4lb to go until I’m officially ‘overweight!’. Will put my loss at just over 3 stone so far.

ResultsMayVary · 07/04/2025 21:35

I've no idea. I just focus on the next kilo then the next kilo. My body is getting smaller, and stronger and more flexible, my blood pressure falling my blood results improving.

I think if I focused on how much I need to lose it would demotivate me. And I don't think I'll know what my end goal is until I get there and I will judge it by many things including what I look like in the mirror naked but I don't think BMI will come into it at all

That’s a fabulous result with your diabetic meds, I’m hoping to reduce the metformin as the weight comes off. I’ve been waiting since January to start but had to have the retinopathy eye test first but results in and all good so will be prescribed Mounjaro on Friday.

15kg to go to be obese

Redlightbulb · 07/04/2025 21:59

About 2 stone to go to overweight from obese
Nearly 4 stone lost so far on MJ and lost a stone before that.

Cheesesteakyum · 07/04/2025 22:10

I started with a BMI of 35 and it took me 27 weeks to get into overweight but I’ve stayed on low dose and had minimal side effects so slow steady losses. I’m now in middle of overweight and keeping going.

painpain · 07/04/2025 22:14

I became “overweight” this morning! Lost 3st 5lbs since late August and bmi from 39.7 to 29.9.
