I’ve seen a lot of people say they’ve not told anyone they are using weight loss injections, even their closest family and friends. I haven’t started yet, waiting for my first pen to arrive, and so far have only told my husband. I don’t plan to tell anyone else straight away but I imagine I might tell my sister and a couple of close friends eventually. I’m not sure I’d be able to fib about why I wasn’t feeling well if I had side effects.

I’m curious what others have done and who you’ve told?

My partner knows. I discussed it a lot with him. I can't imagine keeping something like that from my partner... Surely partnerships are about sharing (it seems a lot of people are keeping it from partners based on comments in other threads).

I have also told close friends and close colleagues I consider to be friends. My cleaner. I am not keeping it secret, but at the same time I am not shouting it to everyone. I see it as no different to any other medical information about ourselves. It tends to come up with people you are close to, but no reason to share personal information with people outside of our inner circle

bsaptimdaenr · 31/03/2025 22:54

I don’t really have anyone apart from immediate family to tell and they all know

Overhaul54 · 31/03/2025 22:57

I’ve told everyone. Partner, kids, work, friends. Why would I not? They can see I eat less, it’s not a secret.

PinkArt · 31/03/2025 23:58

Just a close friend so far. I'm single, otherwise I'd have told a partner too.
I didn't want to tell people initially in case it didn't work - it felt like I'd have made a big 'guys, I'll be thin soon!' announcement and then potentially nothing actually happen. I've said to my mate that I'm very happy to tell other people but only once they notice I've lost weight, which hasn't happened yet.
People are so incredibly judgey about WLI though I think there's good reason not to disclose in general, although for safety ideally everyone should let at least one person know.

SpiralSister · 01/04/2025 04:05

I was determined not to tell anyone, not even DH. That lasted a week.

2 months later I’ve told every fucker 😂. MJ is so marvellous and I’m so much better for it. Had nothing but support and interest. I think people are generally a lot nicer in RL than online!

AnnaQuayInTheUk · 01/04/2025 04:09

I've only told DH. That's because I've been prescribed it for diabetes and only DH knows that I have diabetes.

I'm not very overweight so not trying to lose weight, although that would be an added benefit, but I really want to get my blood cc sugar under control. I doubt any weight loss will be that noticeable so people won't ask I don't think.

popdepop · 01/04/2025 06:11

I havent told anyone, I prefer to keep it private, but im geberally like that anyway.

TidyDancer · 01/04/2025 06:24

I’ve told a couple of friends and that’s it. Funnily enough they are actually long-ish distance friends and therefore the people in my life least likely to notice weight loss! I’ve not bothered telling anyone else because it’s no one else’s business and I don’t care for the judgement I’m sure will come from some.

Seaitoverthere · 01/04/2025 06:34

Family and a couple of friends. Others will just assume I am doing what I did when I lost weight previously as the weight is coming off slowly. I just can’t be doing with the judgement from some that you often see on here though I would like to think my friends wouldn’t but I saw a couple of people get weird when I lost over 100lbs in the past.

PS5Gamer · 01/04/2025 07:36

I”ve told my Husband. I’m not telling anyone else, as I cannot be doing with the judgement, negativity and constant questions surrounding it.

SilenceInside · 01/04/2025 08:47

My partner knows, and that’s it. I don’t tell anyone else in the same way that I don’t tell them about my high BP and the medication I take for that. Or any other medical details really.

mounjarowoes · 01/04/2025 09:06

Just my husband. Don't plan on telling anyone else.

Yellowsubmarine55 · 01/04/2025 09:32

Just my husband as I didn't want to keep it a secret and it's in the fridge so he'd see it.

Kids don't know

housemaus · 01/04/2025 09:45

I've told my husband and mum/sister - everyone else has noticed me exercising more and eating more healthily so not necessarily a surprise that you can now see I've lost weight. I think most people assume GLP1s now though - I've had a few people say "oh you look great, are you on the jabs?", and hearing some colleagues discuss a mutual friend of ours the other day who has also lost a fair amount of weight recently it was assumed he was on them. So I'm guessing people will assume even if I don't say anything, which is fine!

When directly asked if you were on the jabs did you say no or just avoid the question?

If asked directly I'll say so, yeah. If someone had asked in a rude/judgemental way I might be tempted to lie just out of annoyance, but thankfully anyone who's asked so far has just been interested.

IsItSnowing · 01/04/2025 10:19

My husband knows, I discussed it with him before I started. He's been very supportive despite never having a weight problem himself.
I wasn't going to tell anyone else as I don't think my prescriptions are anyone's business but I did tell my daughter in law as she has a friend on it. She's also super supportive.
On the other hand, I haven't told my mum or my sister as they'd just be judgy and start with the daily mail generated horror stories. I just tell them I'm eating less and counting calories which is true.

WafflingDreamer · 01/04/2025 17:38

I'm a nurse and have lost over 4st now. Most of my colleagues asked directly and I got over whatever perceived embarrassment or shame I felt around it.

People will say things like Gosh you look amazing tell me your secret or what are you doing you look fabulous. I felt insincere telling people it's calorie counting and exercise as I have struggled with being overweight since puberty and have tried eat less move more so often and this is the only time I've been able to be consistent with it. I feel like not telling people makes it sound like I just wasn't trying before, so I tell anyone who asks my 'secret' that I'm taking a weightloss injection.

No-one has had anything negative to say about it, although one of my colleagues is convinced I'm buying it on the dark Web! This might be because I had a starting BMI of over 40 though so it's obviously been wonderful for my health.

bert3400 · 01/04/2025 17:40

I have only told DH and DM as she is on it too. People keep asking me how I've lost so much weight and I just say low carb, cutting out alcohol and intermittent fasting....which is all true 😁

I think this will be me soon, once it starts to notice.

AskAl · 01/04/2025 18:40

No-one.

I considered telling a friend but suspected she’d be judgmental. I was right as last time I saw her she started a rant about how these injections were “killing people”. I can’t be arsed with all the ignorance and judgment. Also, don’t know if it will work long term! It’s sad in a way that I can’t be open/honest with a friend, and it’s made me question our friendship …

OntheTrainX · 01/04/2025 19:08

No one. My kids are fit young adults who don’t think about weight. My mates don’t struggle with obesity, they’re all BMI 22-28 types who don’t have food issues. My partner is one of those people who thinks that everyone can lose weight by low-carbing and fast walking if they put their mind to it.

In short, I don’t think many people would understand and I don’t want to hear the “dangerous” comments and feel the need to defend my choice.

Also, because I’m a tallish hourglass with athletic arms and legs I looked thinner than BMI 32 when I began, and I didn’t want people to think I got hold of it by lying. Because I always looked ok, I actually didn’t care about my weight until I hit 50 at which point I started to worry about health. So I don’t want the purse-lipped, suspicious “how were you prescribed it when you’re not properly big” comments. Funnily enough, I didn’t want to have to tell folks that actually I weighed 14 stone 10.

Zempy · 01/04/2025 19:23

I told everyone but I am a chronic over sharer.

wordywitch · 01/04/2025 21:56

I tend to be an open book about most things so I’m sure I’ll blab eventually but I want to see how I react to it first and give myself some time.
