Is there anywhere that will do the injections?

I am toying with the idea of trying injections. My BMI is 30 and I have been struggling to lose the weight. But I hate injecting myself. I had to inject myself a couple of times after my c-section years ago and it really freaked me out.

Is there anywhere like Boots or Superdrug where they would order the injections and do the injections? I am OK with injections if someone else is doing them and I can look away.

DH is even more squeamish than me so I know he couldn't help.

This might be a stupid question but I thought I would ask.

I doubt it very much. It’s for self administration.

TheMeasure · 20/03/2025 19:13

It's not anything like a normal injection. Don't know about anyone else but there was/is so much flab on my stomach that I didn't even feel the needle go in. It's very very thin and short.

Azandme · 20/03/2025 19:13

If it was the anti clot stuff you had to I ject yourself with previously (that stung like hell) then I promise you this is NOTHING like that.

Incredibly fine, short needle that you can barely feel, if you even feel it at all, and it doesn't sting.

Anti clit.... 🫣😂😂

Sorry..

Marylou2 · 20/03/2025 19:17

I know you might be anxious but the needles are so fine that you genuinely don't feel them going in. Do you have any friends or a partner who'd do it until you feel confident? Perhaps when you see how painless and easy the pens are you might feel better about it.Good luck.

stargazer02 · 20/03/2025 19:19

Ive fainted several times at needles (and then always asked to lie down so I didn't faint) but have been able to self inject. Had to psych myself up the first time but afterwards it was nothing. Once I kinda went to the side when taking it out and it was a momentary small scratch feeling, but that the worst it's been.

lunar1 · 20/03/2025 19:23

The needle is time, nothing like the one you will have had before. If nobody else has I’ll post a pic of mine when I get home.

lunar1 · 20/03/2025 19:23

Tiny, not time!

SilenceInside · 20/03/2025 19:28

It’s nothing like the horrible clexane injections after a c section. I couldn’t do those to myself. I have been severely needle phobic in the past, got over it mostly during my pregnancies. The Mounjaro pen doesn’t trigger any of the needle phobia issues for me. It doesn’t look like a traditional syringe, the “needles” are tiny and don’t look like the sort of thing you see for vaccines or blood tests. Then, you honestly and truly can’t feel it when you do it. To the point that I doubted I’d actually got it in me.

I think you’d be able to do it.

shrinkingthiswinter · 20/03/2025 19:33

I’m another recovering needlephobe who finds this absolutely fine. I really struggled to do anti-clotting injections a few years ago, in fact I only managed one, but this is not the same at all.

Puyyt · 20/03/2025 19:38

I had to inject blood thinners after an op and it hurt SO much.

The mounjaro needle is so small, you dont feel it!

Watch some videos of people doing their first injections on you tube!

AmateurNoun · 20/03/2025 19:56

Oh thanks everyone. It was the Clexane/anti-clot stuff that I was thinking of so it's good to hear it's not the same.

On a slightly different topic, I'm not really sure where to start. I was thinking of trying Boots or Superdrug as I am nervous about whether other suppliers may be dodgy, but does anyone have any tips for someone who is just thinking of dipping their toe in the water.

I'm still slightly on the fence as to whether to try it because I have dieted before down to BMI 24, but haven't been able to sustain it recently.

Boots are ridiculously expensive. Have a look at monj.co.uk/discount-mounjaro-price-list/

It looks a bit complex at first, but has links to Trustpilot scores too. If you scroll down a bit you'll see how to be sure the company is legitimate, eg they have to be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council.

SilenceInside · 20/03/2025 20:06

Don’t go with Boots or Superdrug, they are really expensive for no additional value, Boots in particular are hugely overpriced. Check out the price comparison website monj.co.uk which lists GPhC registered pharmacies. They are all regulated and inspected, so above board. I’ve used Asda and Zava, but lots of people posting here use many of the others without issues.

lapuf · 20/03/2025 22:49

To add reassurance, I couldn’t do any of my post c section jabs on myself but this is as close to painless as you can get!

statetrooperstacey · 20/03/2025 22:52

I get mine from pharmacy online, try there it’s very straightforward. Also to echo pps yes the needle is tiny! It’s odd watching it go in and not feeling anything at all. I’ve done 2 pens on 2.5 and just gone up to 5 today . I’m loving it , best decision I’ve made.

statetrooperstacey · 20/03/2025 22:54

And yes I also couldn’t give myself the blood thinning jabs .

Sorry..

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I posted, saw it, laughed my ass off, then edited.

Thought I'd gotten away with it!

Best typo I've ever done!

Azandme · 20/03/2025 23:03

I'm with SheMed, they're very good.

Lola3034 · 21/03/2025 00:26

Oh the bloody post C-Section injections... Still fill me with dread. Had to do it myself as my other half faints at the sight of needles 😅. Once you have done those, you can definitely do mounjaro. Definitely try the price comparison website that previous posters mentioned. No point to spend too much money on it. Service doesn't differ much between the pharmacies.

Zempy · 21/03/2025 07:35

Here is a graphic of the whole pen with a hand for perspective. I think this gives a better idea of the needle size than showing just the tiny needle iyswim?

Honestly you won’t feel it or consider it much of an injection.

Beachcomber74 · 21/03/2025 08:09

local pharmacy injects mine as I’m needle phobic. They also order & keep meds there away from prying eyes of my kids. It costs me the price of the meds currently £149 pcm & I weigh in there too to keep track of progress 2 stone lighter in 10 weeks.

PoundsLost · 21/03/2025 08:14

What I WILL say about injecting, as I don’t like it much myself, is to not push the needle in too hard, just the plunger. Otherwise the site will look like this. Makes me feel ill just looking at it and that may be my suppression!

Maybe not the best idea to share that when OP is already worried about injecting! 🤣 That is a cracker of a bruise, but most people never get anything like that. I have had one very slight bruise where I perhaps nicked a small capillary in 38 weeks of injections.

OP you don't need to even look at the needle when injecting, I don't, just position at stomach, then turn away and gently push towards skin, the first thing you will feel is the plastic reaching your skin. Once it is in you can look again, it is less scary when you don't see the needle.

If you really can't face seeing the needle there are "safety" or "autoshield" pen needle tips you can buy that hide the needle a bit, but they are more expensive.

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 21/03/2025 15:01

Blimey - I bruise like an overripe peach and there's not a mark on me after the pharmacy jab last week. Where did you inject @PoundsLost ?

@AmateurNoun I also remember the horrors of the clexane injection, Jesus they smart a bit. Have just self administered my first in a belly roll of flab and genuinely didn't feel anything. Managed to make more of an impact on my fingers with some inept sewing last week.
