I’m 70 and see this as a last ditch effort to lose weight/ improve my health/ maybe increase my life expectancy.

Yesterday I took my 2nd 5mg dose, loses so far :
-2lbs
-6lbs
-1lb
-1lb
-1lb

Food suppression has been at a level that supports my willpower ie I have never felt that I can’t eat and food noise is somewhat reduced.
No nasty side effects so far.

I have arthritis so exercise is chair Pilates and walking. I average 6,000 - 7,000 steps daily. I would like to do more as Arthritic pain is reducing and my mobility is improving.

Big plus for me is no alcohol since I started.

Any other older users happy to share experiences and offer each other support ?
I’ve learned so much from posters on these boards and thank everyone who posts offering advice.

I'm 66 and doing this for health reasons. I worry that, if I needed an operation for example, I would be too heavy. I need to lose 70 lbs to be in the healthy BMI range and am half way there after 6 months. I haven't gone any further than 5 mg so far. My losses are slow - no more than a pound a week now, but fairly consistent. For exercise I swim twice a week and walk every day, but need to do more. I haven't had any really bad side effects, only a bit of constipation and some days I am freezing cold - definitely looking forward to Spring!

WeAllHaveWings · 16/03/2025 09:51

I might be too you for your thread at a youthful 56 👶. Sounds like you are doing a great job.

I wish I could walk more but working FT restricts me, the lighter nights coming in might help. I have a lot of post menopause joint pain especially ankles, and losing weight has reduced muscle. Do you follow a routine/video for your chair Pilates or suggest how to start? Does it help?

That should say, "might be too youthful". On app and can't edit. 🤦🏻‍♀️

56 ! I remember it well 😉😂 @WeAllHaveWings
I will add a link to the Senior Shape videos that I follow.

I understand your worry @Adelstrop about maybe needing an op or other health interventions, that’s definitely a motivating factor in all this.

Here’s to a new version of us as spring comes

Senior Shape with Lauren on YouTube she does lots of different ones. I mainly do the chair Pilates.
I couldn’t get a link to work - sorry.

I am a few months off 66. I had a gastric bypass 5 years ago. That has been fabulous. I lost over 7 stone, but never lost the final two and (as is normal when we can eventually eat more normally than a few tablespoons), I have gained a little (maybe 7lbs, haven’t weighed myself). I’m on holiday at the moment, but when I get back, I’ve decided to weigh myself and order Mounjaro.

I go to the gym to swim a few times a week and will start lifting weights. I also walk for an hour most days. That said, I haven’t done any of that for two months because I had a nasty virus, followed by very stubborn bronchitis.

I’ll check out Senior Shape.

Hello all. I am 68 and been using MJ since 10 October and have lost 3st 3 1/2lbs so far. I still have at least another 1 1/2st to go.
I am coping well and love the lack of food noise. My main concern is I have is loose and wrinkly skin. I have lost and gained so many times over the years that there can be no elasticity left in my skin. Will I need to be in shapewesr forever?
I feel so much better though and at my age does loose skin matter that much?

I’ve decided that my loose skin is just part of me and I refuse to stress about it. like you and have lost and gained more times than I care to remember. I just love feeling fitter, stronger and having lots more energy. I’ll be happy to get to the top end of a size 14 though (currently 18). Any lower and I think the loose skin and wrinkles would take over 🤣

Hi all. Ive been seriously thinking about having the mounjaro injections and phoned my doctors surgery so that I could have some advise as I am 70 and a little nervous as Im on some meds. Unfortunately my doctors dont do them and apparently wont discuss them. The receptionist suggested I ring a pharmacy who will assist. Im curious to know where you all get yours from please.

Most people get them online from online
pharmacies but increasingly you can go to your local pharmacy and have them prescribed there. If you are nervous this might be a good option for you, it may stop you becoming overwhelmed with all the choices out there and you would get face to face support.

SilenceInside · 11/08/2025 09:38

@NattyMintMaker when you apply to an online pharmacy you give your medical history including all the medication that you are on. The pharmacy and its prescribing pharmacist/doctor will then make a decision on whether to prescribe to you or not based on that information.

NattyMintMaker · 13/08/2025 16:31

Thanks everyone for your take on this. I'm still thinking and researching. x

RaisedVegBeds · 13/08/2025 17:17

I’m 60 and have lost 35kg over 10 months. Still another 15-20 to go I think. So not been super fast loss but good. I’ve also increased exercise and am in much better shape. The thing I hadn’t factored in was I now have a terrible prolapse. I had a slight one for years but managed by pelvic floor exercises. I thought losing weight would make it better but it hasn’t it’s much worse and quite suddenly. GP said it was because weight loss always involves loss of muscle. I’ve been referred to a gynaecologist to look at repair- too far gone for physio. I feel kind of cheated because I’ve made a real effort to eat protein and build muscle and overall it’s good but this can’t be fixed with exercise alone.

So a warning - don’t not do it but be aware of this side effect.

Everdecreasingcircle · 13/08/2025 17:37

I’m 64 and have lost 9stone 4lbs on Mounjaro. Has been slow and steady but worth plodding on and losing slowly but surely. Can’t believe how easy it has been really and never gone above 7.5mg.

Your local pharmacy will more likely than not offer this service.
I see my local pharmacist on a monthly basis for a check in, weigh and basic chat about how I'm getting on. You can obviously discuss health issues and medication that you are on etc.

I'm 61 and have lost 2 stone and 5 lbs in 15 weeks.

NattyMintMaker · 16/08/2025 18:35

Ive decided to bite the bullet and try mounjaro myself after speaking to a pharmacist who said he would prescribe it but he isn't qualified as yet as he was a locum filling in for someone on holiday. I received it from online today and keep looking at it when I pass the fridge! I am thinking of starting on it tomorrow evening as my daughter suggested if I feel a bit nauseous it wont feel as bad if I'm asleep. If the low dose is okay for me is it feasible to stay on that and I usually cook slimming world so I presume that is good but smaller portions. Thanks for listening to me and would appreciate any feedback. x

IrisPallida · 16/08/2025 19:14

63 years old, started last June/July, have lost over 5 stone at a rate of 1-2lbs a week, which is 33% of my starting weight and got to goal weight in early April. Never went above 5mg apart from a few rather higher 5th doses, and never had any gastro side effects. BMI is now 23 and I am a size 8-10.

I have been maintaining since then and have lost a couple more pounds which I intend to put back on, as older people are healthier at a slightly higher BMI range for all sorts of reasons including bone density. I am still taking 5mg and may well titrate down slowly but in truth I am happy to stay on it.

The interesting thing about having been on more or less the same dose for a year is that I can eat more or I can eat less, according to what I am doing or what the occasion is, and that this is a choice led by me rather than the drug either suppressing the hell out of me and preventing me eating, or conversely wearing off and me being starving. I know this is the way the drug can act when you hit the sweet spot and it works for both weight loss and for maintaining. There really is a feeling of eating being right and normal and well, balanced. There is really a lot to say for doing it slowly and steadily!

Hello everyone! I'm older too and finally decided to “bite the bullet” earlier this week and placed my first order on Wednesday evening. Received an email to say my application has been processed and was OK, received another email the next day to say my order was being despatched. Within half an hour I got the price increase email - which something of a dampener on things.
Took my first dose this morning and so far feeling OK. I'm using the Glapp app and it tells me my dose won't be at peak effective ness for a few hours yet so hopefully won't bring any side effects.

Given my age and previous yo-yo weight, I'm very much hoping that I can stay on a low does and lose weight slowly which may help minimise skin sagging (fingers crossed). Mostly my motivation is reduction in or elimination of health risks of obesity- that I may look a bit better (fully clothed anyway!) would be a bonus.

My online pharmacy didn't send a sharps bin or say anything about disposal. What is everyone else doing? I have read that I can ask my GP for a prescription for a sharps bin although I don't mind buying one of my own - just wondering how I would dispose of a “private” one?

Also, due to the price increase I will definitely be using the “golden dose”. Can anyone recommend which needle and syringe I should buy please as I see there are ones with short needles (like the pen) and ones with longer needles which I'm guessing might be needed to get the last dose out of the pen, it I'm not sure.
Any assistance/links to info gratefully received.

Your story is very motivating and well done on you weight loss. Smile Hope I can achieve something similar in terms of the journey although I have more to lose than you. Feels very much to me like my last chance at this.

NattyMintMaker · 21/08/2025 11:53

Hi all. Well started on first dose on Sunday evening after anxiously standing with eyes closed then decided this is it and off I went on my Mounjaro journey. Of course this is very early to say but at the moment I have had no adverse reactions. I have felt a bit shaky in the afternoon but put it down to eating quite little at lunchtime. I'm drinking loads of water which leads to frequent trips to the loo 😉I enjoy reading all your inspirational updates and will do the same at a later date. Thanks everyone x

Hi

to dispose of a sharps bin, you need to contact your local council. They will arrange to collect. Just go on the council website and search for sharp bin disposal. I’ve been on MJ a year soon, and my bin is not full yet, so it isn’t something that needs to be done very often.

Itscoldouthere · 22/08/2025 12:56

@IrisPallida very interesting to read your post, I’m very similar to you, 62, started last July I’ve lost about 4 stone. I got to my goal weight in about April and have been going down the doses, been on 5 for a few months but will probably go to 3.75 next.
I am eating quite a lot more, and have had a few more glasses of wine in the last months but I’m still loosing weight, just small amounts but I’m now 4kg less than I was at target, I’m beginning to feel a bit too thin as my BMI is just under 22 and my arms look like old lady arms even though I’ve been doing lots of weights, my face has also suffered.
I feel very like I can sort of eat what I want, days I think I’ve eaten too much don’t seem to make any difference, I presume it’s because overall I’m mindful and conscious about what I eat and seldom have mindless snacking. I also use Zoe so try to avoid UPF which is for my overall health.
I just feel like MJ just makes it all so much easier and is really benefiting my general health in lots of ways, I just hope I can keep taking it long term (cost allowing).
@JadedCat you can pick up sharps bins cheaply at chemists or online, I’m still using my first one I bought last July it’s not full yet, they can be tricky to dispose of, it depends where you live.
There are lots of posts here on MN with links to needles if you do a search, just make sure you buy human grade, people say many on Amazon are not human grade, but i I don’t know if it’s true or not.
Good luck with your journey, lots of helpful advice here on MN (and the odd bust up/drama 🤣).

Am an older lady .. hit 54 this year and started on the MJ cause of menopause, i have been a size 12 since 40 but now am creeping up, and dont want to buy a new wardrobe or start wearing size 16 knickers.

Lost 10kg so far - 2 months in. am on 5mg and gonna stay on that for another two months because it seems to be working.

I just want to be back to size 12 at 70kg although my bmi says I need to be 63 kgs if I want to be in the healthy not overweight range. I mean, I've not been 63kgs since I was in my early 30s, so happy to stop at 70.

NGL ... The price increase took me by suprise. I only found out about it cause The Guardian put out a questionaire on wednesday asking how Munjaro users were being affected by the price hikes. I was like what price hikes..and then found out! 😬

LadyClumber · 24/08/2025 17:34

I’m 63 and started MJ towards the end of June. Had always battled with portion control (especially carbs) but post-menopause and a high stress/ long hours job with no time to sleep/ eat/ exercise caused my weight to balloon over the past few years. Since starting, I have lost almost 2 stone, am eating properly (good-bye Deliveroo!) and exercise (running and weights) is a non-negotiable part of my daily life. Feels great to be in control!
