Weight loss myths/facts - remained static for 3 weeks

Is it true that not drinking much water and eating too few calories can stall your weight loss?

I am averaging 1200kcal per day (tdee calculator states 1560pd for 2lb per week loss)

And drinking around 1.5litres a day plus a couple of cups of tea.

On 5mg mounjaro, suppression OK. Don't feel hungry on what I'm eating, though day before injection day is a very peckish feeling day, but am still able to not give in.

How are your bowels?

How are your bowels?

Generally fine. A little constipated on days 1 and 2 after injection but nothing a few prunes on my breakfast doesn't soon fix

I think increasing water is always a good thing but eating in a deficit does cause weight loss so there are likely other factors at play. Retaining water, constipated, hormone fluctuations for example. Could be underestimating calories if not rigorously tracking??

I am planning to start rigorously tracking tomorrow to check.

I pretty consistently eat the same stuff though. I'm boring like that so I don't think it's strayed off track to the point of maintenance (2560kcal per day)

Just keep going! Your body will try and plateau but if you are eating less calories than you need to maintain your weight then the weight WILL eventually come off.
It doesn't always come off at even increments.

Nevertrustacop · 09/03/2025 21:14

Of course eating too little doesn't mean you put on weight. Or stay the same weight. Have you see the hostages being released in Gaza?

This is my tdee calculations done this morning when I checked my weight.

Thank you 😊

I wish it bloody would, it's getting very annoying!

It does happen that the body adapts to a lower calorie diet - it’s called metabolic adaptation. Also, most people who lose weight will go through plateaus where they will have weeks where they are in a deficit but they won’t lose anything and then they will lose quite a bit overnight. Fat cells can fill with water that is then released for instance. You just have to stick at it and eventually it will start coming off again. How much have you lost so far and how long have you been doing it? I think that often your body sees it as a trauma to lose a lot of weight so sometimes it’s an idea to eat at maintenance for a few weeks and then get back to the diet.

MJconfessions · 10/03/2025 08:45

To be honest I did not drink enough water. I still lost weight on MJ

Started on 7th November and have lost 12 kilos (nearly 2 stone)

Lost 1.5 stone the year previously under my own steam.

It's just so frustrating isn't it!

That’s good weight loss so far. And yes it’s very frustrating but it will come off eventually if you stick at it.

TheWisePlumWasp · 10/03/2025 15:49

I find increasing my calories for two days and then going back down to 1200 works. Seems to kick start the weight loss again.
Good luck. Keep going!

I know. I'm just desperate to get under the 18st mark! If I do, it will be my lowest weight in 12 years.

Move scales dammit! 😂

I've tracked so far today and found I've been under-estimating my breakfast by around 200kcal!

Wouldn't have mattered before now as anything better and less than my normal meant a calorie deficit.

Time to start religiously tracking I think!

IT MOVED IT MOVED!!!!!!

113.5kg this morning 💪

I am officially the lightest I've been for 12 years.

Hi, please can I ask are you avoiding drinking 30 mins before and after food and not drinking with meals?

That link doesn't work. What's supposed to be the benefit?

Avoid drinking 30 mins either side if eating to optimise the effectiveness of mounjaro.

Right, how does it optimise the effectiveness?

I am on week 6 and have lost 1st on 8lbs so far (taking me to just under 17stone). I track my calories religiously, everything is weighed and I don’t underestimate but this week the scales say I’ve put on 1lb. I could cry 😭. My bowels are fine, I am WELL under my TDEE but I’m also under the calories Nurtracheck set for me to lose 2lb a week and I don’t eat my excercise calories back. I have found these last few days though I’ve been eating a bit more, I’ve stayed on 2.5mg as I feel my suppression is still high but I think I’ll go up to 5mg when I order my next dose

i am not going to worry to much, my uniform is a lot looser and a couple have people have asked me if I’ve lost weight so 🤞🏻 it continues to work for me

lovealongbath · 16/03/2025 08:34

With much persistence, I was able to open the link, I will attempt to copy it…

This is paragraph about water…

  • Drink 6 to 8 servings of fluid every day (focus on water!) - Staying hydrated is always important, it's especially crucial to drink plenty of water while taking Mounjaro to maintain proper hydration levels, which are essential for effective weight loss. Additionally, drinking water before meals can help you feel fuller and enhance your efforts to shed pounds.
  • Sip liquids between meals, not with meals, and avoid drinking 30 minutes before and after eating - It's best to avoid drinking water while eating on Mounjaro to prevent diluting the medication's effects. This can help ensure that Mounjaro effectively signals fullness and slows down gastric emptying, supporting your weight loss goals. So, it's recommended to wait until after meals to drink water while taking Mounjaro.
