Mounjaro has arrived

Do I start Mounjaro. I have constant food voice. I am 14.5 stone only 5ft 3. The prescription arrived yesterday but I feel so irresponsible for ordering it. I don’t drink or smoke but have a very high stress home life and eating is my coping mechanism. My weight gain is soaring and a friend recommended Mounjaro. I aim to start tonight but I’m incredibly nervous about side effects.

Hi, my weight and height corresponds to yours (give a few pounds or so). Like you don’t smoke or drink but my eating was my coping mechanism too. I’m a month in with no side affects whatsoever, in fact I wondered whether I had been injecting correctly. I would say it still requires will power, there is food noise turned off but still I find I need to exert self control. My biggest change has got to be changing my habits in terms of physical activity.
Did you start tonight? Do you have a time frame for how long you are going to use it? Mine is bound by financial constraints and hopefully I’ll have reformed way of eating and learnt to stop overeating by way of coping by end of time w it.

Apologies for long post.

Wishing you the best.🌸

shrinkingthiswinter · 06/03/2025 07:50

Why do you feel irresponsible?

Cerialkiller · 06/03/2025 07:51

Go for it!

I injected in the morning after kids were at school which allowed for any immediate symptoms (usually none). First time I had suppression within a few hours.

My worst symptom was bad trapped wind on day 2/3 If you get this, massage tummy right to left to burp it out. I never got it after that.

Snozzlemaid · 06/03/2025 08:08

It's not irresponsible, in fact it's the opposite, to take steps to improve your health.

We all have concerns at the start as we don't know if we will suffer side effects, but the majority of us don't.

SilenceInside · 06/03/2025 08:59

I don't understand the "irresponsible" comment. You have had Mounjaro prescribed to you, presumably from a reputable online pharmacy and you meet the prescribing criteria for it. It's meant to treat the issue that you have. That all sounds perfectly sensible to me.

Side effects are usually mild and manageable, short lived. If you get any worth mentioning, many people don't.

Fairislesweater · 06/03/2025 12:49

Mine arrived yesterday and I know what you mean, I think it’s linked to me growing up in the nineties thinking (knowing) diet pills were dodgy etc. I injected this morning. Not sure what to expect really but I struggled through my lunch which is unusual, but possible unrelated!!

ThirdStorm · 06/03/2025 13:18

Best thing I ever did. Food noise went after just 2 hours! Join one of the new starter threads to pick up top tips so you can navigate your way through the first few weeks. Good luck.

WeAllHaveWings · 06/03/2025 13:26

You have a health issue and a medication to treat it. Your prescriber confirms you are eligible to take the medication.

The only reason you would be irresponsible is if you either lied to your prescriber and you are not actually eligible, bought from an unregulated source or if you haven't checked the benefits/risks of the medication.

Jessicapancake · 06/03/2025 13:34

I can totally relate. Also 5ft 3, started at 14st 4, bulging out of all of my clothes, terrible indigestion, aching joints and feeling 60 rather than 4.
I bought the mountain but didn't take it for weeks just not sure if it was a good choice.

I eventually went for it, am now down to 12st 5. No side effects. Still on 2.5mg lowest dose.

I really struggle to lose weight, most of my life either on or off a diet and this is a total game changer.

I'd say just do it and see how you feel in a week.

Charlieart · 06/03/2025 18:47

Thank you so much everyone for sharing your experiences. I guess I feel like I should be able to do this with more exercise and will power but I just can’t and I’m now suffering other effects from being so overweight. I plan to inject tonight but still feeling very nervous although you have all reassured me. Thank you. I have an appointment with my own GP next week and will let you know their opinion.

I spoke to my GP when she was reviewing my HRT. She was very supportive and said when you started to take HRT I had to tell you about the small increased risk of cancer but being obese increases your risk of cancer much more.

ThirdStorm · 06/03/2025 18:56

@Charlieart i felt like I should have had enough willpower to do it myself, like I’ve done before. But I’m only human and had to admit I needed some help. So glad I took that help.

Thank you, I’m hoping to inject later tonight. That’s great it’s working for you. My friend is now maintaining a healthy weight from using it. I’m just so nervous of detrimental side effects as I am a full time carer for my family member.

@Charlieart - go for it! I started at a similar weight and height to you in August. I’m now 9st 7.

I’ve had a few days of upset stomach caused by trying to increase dose to 5mg. Stayed at 3.75 (45 clicks on a 5mg pen) and it’s been fine.

good luck!

@Weepixie

Not helpful and frankly you didn’t add anything to the OP’s thread. Clearly, you meant to cause trouble.

Well done for taking this step. I'd recommend the recent Oprah Winfrey podcast about GLP1 medications as she had a doctor on and it was so enlightening. I finally realised that this isn't my fault and I deserve to take this medication and need it.

Charlieart · 06/03/2025 21:31

Well, the deed is done. I’m on my way on a new journey. I can only hope I’m not one of the unfortunates that suffer side effects 🤞.

Hi OP. Just took my 1st dose tonight as well, and we are the same height and weight so I'll be watching out for you on threads! I've felt how you have felt, I'm in the few "fat" clothes I bought until I shifted some weight and now they are so very tight. Looking forward to seeing where this journey takes us.

MJBear · 06/03/2025 22:05

It was said in jest but I accept it probably didn’t come across that way.

I’m on Mounjaro and have been since August.

You’ll be fine, and if you are one of the unfortunates who suffer side effects the upside is that you’ll probably lose weight even faster. Every cloud and all that 😉

Join a thread for those who’ve started Mounjaro in March and you’ll be amongst posters who are all at the same stage you are. It helps to see that everyone is different and no two experiences are the same.

Thanks, I’m feeling ok this morning. I’m new to mumsnet, just joined to chat about Mounjaro. How do I find a group who started in March? Ta

Hi OP,
There's absolutely no need to feel guilty. It's a new medication and it works. So why wouldn't you make it easier for yourself?
I'm no stranger to diets, yes it's possible to lose weight with willpower alone but it is SO much more difficult.
I started exactly a month ago and now a stone down, with no effort and also not feeling like I'm depriving myself of anything!
It's brilliant- good luck on your journey :)

Weepixie · 07/03/2025 12:26

Charlie, here you go. This will link you to the thread but there’s also a general Mounjaro thread. How are you today? Excited At all?
