MJ - which dose worked for you?

I'm still on 5mg and feeling the effects wearing off by day 2 and can't wait to move to 7.5mg. Just wondering what everyone's dosing schedule was like and which dose worked for them and was stuck to for a while?
A bit nervous about moving up too fast, as there is no where to go after 15mg.

I moved up every month as recommended, now on ten, 3rd week of second pen, and it’s constant suppression, but enough to still eat and get hungry for meals, but fill up quickly. It’s brilliant, and am hoping to stay on this.

ive noticed reading the forum the slowest losers often are the ones who don’t move up as per the guidelines and suffer a lot of stalls, and those same folks struggle when they do move up with side effects, not everyone, but a large amount,

Tulipsandaffodils · 22/02/2025 11:32

Oh and it doesn’t wear off when on the right dose op. If it did it would not be getting approved for multiple health issues and be approved for life.

its wegovy that wears off.

I'm on 2.5mg and have been for 3.5 months now.

RobinEllacotStrike · 22/02/2025 11:42

I stayed on 5'mg for 3 months and I'm on my 3rd 7.5mg pen. I have ordered #4.

In 7 months I'm just over halfway to goal which is 50kg so I needed to pace myself.

I have steady losses and feeling cold is my only side effect. Suppression etc is fine.

It's absolutely fine not to move up every month.

RobinEllacotStrike · 22/02/2025 11:43

50kg loss is my goal (not to weigh 50kg).

Summerhillsquare · 22/02/2025 11:44

I went up to 7.5 but my hair started falling out and the cold became unbearable. Back on 5 for the foreseeable future, then tapering down to 2.5, which had good effects for me, wish I'd stayed on it.

Did you ensure you ate enough protein, and took your supplements ie biotin and marine collagen?

DaffodilFrenzy · 22/02/2025 11:49

I’ve been on 2.5mg for 3 months and am consistently losing 2lb a week which is as much as I want to lose.

HansHolbein · 22/02/2025 11:52

I have done 1 month at 2.5, 1 month at 5mg, 2x months at 7.5 and have done 1 month at 10mg.

10mg seems to be my magic dose. It's effective all week, no side effects, no wobbling at day 5&6.

@Tulipsandaffodils

I have never taken a supplement, I just eat proper food. What's the supplement for?

Nobody needs supplements if they have a balanced diet, and hardly anyone is protein deficient in the west.

Quite. In fact I have never eaten so well since I started using MJ to support my weight loss. I can't imagine how eating a proper diet leads a person to need supplements. If anything I probably needed them before.

I agree with half your statement, but someone who is taking a medication which makes them feel full isn't necessarily going to be eating a normal amount of protein. It isn't a bad thing to remind people to consume a minimum of protein (80grams or so) every day if they want to avoid their body consuming their muscle along with their fat.

I literally told this to someone in another forum because they'd eaten one egg that day. That isn't enough, and there is strong evidence that people on a very low calorie diet are losing muscle along with fat.

I know you added 'if they have a balanced diet' but sometimes people need spelling out what that means, and if they only managed some toast and an egg today, that isn't it.

(Absolutely agree about collagen et al, I'm not even sure it's proven that dietary collagen does anything at all for hair.)

The brilliance of MJ is that I no longer want to eat refined starchy stuff, but I do want to eat beans, veg, nuts, whole grains in moderation - which low and behold leads to a healthy weight too.

femininomenon · 22/02/2025 12:20

I've been moving up each pen but currently taking 10mg from a 12.5mg pen as when I came to start it 10mg was still working perfectly (constant suppression but not so strong I can't eat, no side effects) so I am going to continue with 10mg until I feel i need to increase again.

InfoSecInTheCity · 22/02/2025 12:45

I stayed on 5mg for 20 weeks and have just moved up to 7.5mg this week. I am on it for Diabetes and the dosing guidance is different, you use the half doses for just 4 weeks, but the whole number doses you stay on until they stop being effective, so I will go up to 10mg and then stay on that indefinitely unless there are issues.

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 22/02/2025 12:45

Just to disprove @Tulipsandaffodils‘ theory - I spent 5 months on 5mg, 2 on 7.5 and haven’t really had any stalls (other than Christmas which was well deserved! 😂) and have lost 88lbs. Just gone up to 10mg and still haven’t really had any side effects along the way!

The thing to remember is that we ALL react differently and whilst each individual may have patterns to loss etc, you cannot generalise!

I’m sorry but how does this disprove my statement of “not everyone but a large amount”?

The half dose thing, who is recommending that?

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 22/02/2025 12:58

@InfoSecInTheCity that may be specific to your area/ prescribing Dr/ Nurse etc as I’ve never heard that from anyone else. Interesting (and a little odd).
@Tulipsandaffodils I think it’s very likely the majority are much like me but we only ever hear from those who are stalled or have side effects and rarely from those who are plodding along happily.

This is the NhS guidance on doing for diabetes -
medicines.bedfordshirelutonandmiltonkeynes.icb.nhs.uk/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/Tirzepatide-prescribing-support-information.pdf

The starting dose of tirzepatide is 2.5 mg once weekly. After 4 weeks, the dose should be increased to 5 mg once weekly. If needed to achieve individual treatment goals, dose increases can be made in 2.5 mg increments after a
minimum of 4 weeks on the current dose. The recommended maintenance doses are 5, 10 and 15 mg depending on individual tolerance. (The 7.5mg and 12.5mg strengths are not licensed maintenance doses but for titration alone). The maximum licensed dose is 15 mg once weekly.

And Diabetes UK - www.diabetes.org.uk/about-diabetes/looking-after-diabetes/treatments/tablets-and-medication/glp-1/mounjaro

How is Mounjaro taken?
Mounjaro is an injection that you take once a week. Your healthcare team will give you more information about how to take it, and how to inject.
There are different types of injections that you can use to take Mounjaro. You can take it through a one-dose pen or a multi-dose pen called the Mounjaro Kwikpen.
The Mounjaro Kwikpen comes as a four-dose pre-filled injection pen which you take at a starting dose of 2.5mg once a week for 4 weeks.

After taking the starting dose for the first 4 weeks the dosage will increase every four weeks until you are taking the dose that is effective for you, up to the maximum dose of 15mg. Mounjaro KwikPens, containing four doses per pen, are now available in each different strength from 2.5mg up to 15mg.
This means your prescription will change every four weeks until you are on the right dose for you, but you’ll still only have to take 1 injection per week – so it’s important to check you have been given the right strength pen for your current dose.

www.gov.uk/government/news/four-dose-mounjaro-kwikpen-approved-by-mhra-for-diabetes-and-weight-management

Starting dose is 2.5mg once a week for four weeks, increasing to 5mg once a week. The dose may then be increased in at least 4-week intervals up to the maximum dose of 15mg once weekly, if recommended by the patient’s doctor.
