How often do you weigh?

Just out of curiosity- do you weigh daily/weekly/monthly?

I'm considering changing to monthly as I'm a slow loser and find the scales so disheartening when weighing weekly and not losing. I'm on MJ week 5. I know lots of people weigh daily and take the average for the week.

I weigh daily and then record the lowest weight. I found it disheartening to only weigh once a week and not see a loss (whereas it might have been a loss the day before / after).

AuntiePushpa · 19/02/2025 13:41

Weekly. Pretty sure this is the nhs recommendation.

Daily doesn't feel mentally healthy as more likely to lead to fussing over tiny natural variations.

Monthly I think you can't remedy in a timely way if you need small adjustments to your diet because you're losing too much or not at all. Plus I think I'd give up and be disheartened if no loss or gains after a full month.

Whatever works for you is good tho!

TheChosenTwo · 19/02/2025 13:43

Weekly, once on a Saturday.
I think it would do my head in over analysing if I weighed daily.
Weekly works fine for me.

stealthsquirrelnutkin · 19/02/2025 13:46

Every four weeks.

Voy tried to convince me that people who weigh themselves more often have more success. The longest weigh in interval available on their website was 14 days, which I found quite irritating. I have been losing weight steadily since February 2022 and joined Voy last June, so I resented them trying to force me to change a system that was working well for me.

There have been times earlier in my life where I've allowed weight too much prominence in my thoughts, and I am very reluctant to allow that to happen again. I concentrate on eating to improve my gut microbiome, as a way of controlling several debilitating autoimmune illnesses, the 80kg weight loss has been an positive side effect, but I refuse to allow it to become my main focus.

I continue to weigh myself once every four weeks, if I haven't lost more than 1kg over the past 28 days I adjust my daily calorie allowance downwards for the next month. A fortnight later I log onto Voy and guestimate a weight for their records, then follow it up with the correct weight after my next weigh in.

Though I am not above breakfasting on 100g of dried figs and a pint of black coffee the day before weigh in day.

Glorybox2025 · 19/02/2025 13:48

Daily, but I don't stress about fluctuations.

SilenceInside · 19/02/2025 14:15

I weigh everyday, but I only record the weight on my weekly weigh in day. I don't find the daily fluctuations to be something that worries me, just find them interesting and prefer not to be surprised on my weekly recorded weigh in.

Howinthehelldidthishappen · 19/02/2025 14:24

Daily, but only take the 'official' weight on Thursday which is my weigh in day, even though it could be 2-4lbs heavier than a couple of days before.

unsync · 19/02/2025 14:43

Daily, but that's so that I can normalise seeing my weight. It doesn't actually mean that much now and I find it interesting to see it go up and down through the week, which I find helps with not freaking me out IYSWIM. I record once a week at home and then at the end of each month, I use the body comp scales at the gym.

Adelstrop · 19/02/2025 14:47

Weekly. Occasionally I have a sneaky interim weigh-in, but I don’t record that.

shrinkingthiswinter · 19/02/2025 15:07

Every day because it fluctuates so much that I’d read too much into weekly data.

BettyandtheVets · 19/02/2025 16:58

Daily and I only record the lowest that week whatever day it falls on. I can fluctuate up and down by as much as 3lb so don’t want to hit the higher weight on a weekly weigh in!

I don’t tend to stress about weighing like I know many people can do due to past experiences. But if I did, I would choose monthly rather then weekly weigh ins as this would show almost always show a loss.

Queenofthejabs · 19/02/2025 18:11

Daily but onky record the measurement the same one day each week, I like seeing the fluctuations and find it means I can just get on. I also went years without weighing and it helped me kid myself I wasn’t as fat as I was.

susiedaisy1912 · 19/02/2025 18:16

Twice weekly.

Pyjamatimenow · 19/02/2025 18:18

Twice a day. In the morning and about 6pm.

ChunkyMonkey2020 · 19/02/2025 18:19

Daily. And I take a weekly average. Works for me

BookishType · 19/02/2025 18:21

Daily, but I’ve always been a daily weigher even when porky.

Dueanamechange2025 · 19/02/2025 18:28

Weekly at the same time and day.

BookishType · 19/02/2025 18:29

I have that Fitdays app which gives you lots of stats from the scales. I find it so motivating.

Redlightbulb · 19/02/2025 21:35

I weigh pretty randomly. Might be daily for a few days.. then goes to a week.. every 2 weeks etc.
I don't record it either just a mental tally.
The main thing is that i know my weight is going down over time.

frogpigdonkey · 19/02/2025 21:48

Daily. Like others I don't stress and it's helpful to see variations over time. I have my official weigh in once a week and that's how I record it- whatever the number is that day. But on a weight loss journey it helps- I'm definitely a what gets measured gets managed person.

frostydaytoday · 19/02/2025 22:10

Daily, but lately as I have got happier with my weight, I often forget and it's every few days

healthybychristmas · 19/02/2025 22:31

Does anyone else find it weird that their weight stays stable for a couple of weeks and then drops by a pound or so? I weigh myself most days but don't worry if it goes up slightly.

Similar to this, one of my favourite things about MJ is that it's let me chill out about my weight, as long as it's roughly going down the way, life is good. I also weigh in various stages of dress/undress/shoes on so I only ever have an idea of what I weight so I can't stress over the little (getting littler!) numbers
