Scared to start … Mounjaro fears?

Hi,

Ive looked so many times at Mounjaro and want to start injections as I’ve failed with any other weight loss (slimfast, weight watchers, slimming world, oviva, over the counter weight loss supplements) but I’m scared to try Mounjaro for fear of side effects. Can anyone reassure me so I can take the plunge?
my weight has gradually gone up and up until I now sit at 16stones (5ft6) and appalled with myself but can’t seem to stop getting fatter!

help

I feel a bit of guilt as my DP/boyfriend is overweight, even more than I am, and would like to do it but says he can’t afford it. But I’ve resolved to try it to put my own health first

You could suggest that he tracks what he spends on food - take away, snacks from the corner shop or garage, restaurants as well as the supermarket to see if he can save a chunk of the money by buying less food on the go.

I started early January, even though my first dose sat in the fridge for 3 weeks whilst I decided whether I could do it or not. I've lost nearly 2 stone and , even though I have another 6 to go, already feel much better for it! I have stuck at 5mg as it seems to be working and, since January, have had ONE bout of diarrhoea, easily stopped with Imodium. Nothing, no other side effects at all. But the arthritis in my knee has eased, I can walk to the shops without getting out of breath and I FEEL lighter. I'm loosing 2-3 lbs a week, which I've never been able to sustain previously, so I can see there is light at the end of the tunnel!

I live alone and track my expenses rigorously.

I am spending an average of £108 a month less on food than previously. That’s just food shopping. In addition, I am eating and drinking outside the home less often and when I do, I spend far less.

You need to look at the net cost. It could even save him money if he’s the sort who buys lunch out every day or drinks alcohol.

TriangleLight · 15/02/2025 16:04

That’s interesting , thanks, @Zempy and @Winter2020 I shall say that to him. He’s stopped drinking alcohol except some weekends, and is trying to shop better, but did suffer from issues with food as comfort. Maybe he’ll give it a go if he thinks he could save money!

Im still awaiting approval 🙈

GildedRage · 15/02/2025 23:31

hopefully not much longer for you @TriangleLight
i'm awaiting the delivery of ?? not even sure what i've been approved for and the web site is relatively awkward. i need to calm myself down, for me this is a big decision, one i would like to, and will have to, share with my dh but now isn't the right time.

mefornow · 22/02/2025 08:35

Ok so I bit the bullet, told dh and I’ve got my pen. After you’ve used one dose from the pen do you then keep it in the cupboard or does it stay in the fridge, I was a bit unsure from my instructions leaflet

Once you've had your first dose it can be stored either in or out of fridge.
It should then be discarded after 30 days.

mefornow · 22/02/2025 09:40

Thankyou!

I've always been a comfort eater. I've eaten when I'm fed up, miserable, bored, in secret ..I'm on week 3 and don't feel hungry or have any urges to snack. No food noise at all. Previously when I've dieted, I've felt really low without the comfort of eating, but on MJ I haven't felt that at all. I haven't needed an alternative form of comfort either.

I swapped from Ozempic to Mounjaro 3 months ago. I had no side effects with Ozempic but also no weight loss. With Mounjaro I have also had no side effects, I don't like the injection pen, however. I am losing weight on Mounjaro.

Iamthemoom · 29/03/2025 21:18

It’s impossible to know until you try. I don’t get any significant side affects really. My oura ring shows I don’t sleep quite as well on injection day and the next day but I don’t notice that. I sometimes feel a bit more tired than usual or a bit cold those days too but that’s it. I had a slight headache the first week. But I’ve lost over two stone now and feel great. I had aches and pains that vanished and I just feel so much happier and healthier.

I’m planning on starting at the end of February once I’m back from holiday. Very nervous. DH has been on it since beginning of January and just gone up to 5. He’s had very bad diarrhoea for a couple of days. One question - does anyone use protein shakes and/or kefir as well?

Why not join in and post on the current February 26 starters thread.
This thread is a year old! 😂

I do understand, I was very much the same and actually had a wegovy pen stashed away for several months, but was too scared to use it. In that time, I put on another 10 pounds. I’d reached diet rock bottom and as soon as I took my eye off the ball (which was only enabling me to stand still at not-quite-obese anyway), I whacked on another stone and became properly obese. In the end I went to a local pharmacy rather than buy online. I had a face to face consult, she talked me through all the risk factors of the medication vs doing nothing, and recommended MJ. I took the pen home and did it that night. I’m three weeks in and I still worry about pancreatitis but otherwise I’ve been fine. I’m to see the pharmacist every month and she has recommended taking it as slowly as possible. I’ve lost 7lb already and feel much better in myself. It is more expensive buying like this, but I think I’ll stick with it as long as I can as somehow it makes me feel safer to know I can literally pop into the shop and see the pharmacist or the nurse if I need to. May just be a placebo effect but it’s one I needed to get me started. The only problems I’ve had is the odd wave of nausea on days 2/3 every week and some diarrhoea, which could be the drug or may just be my usual ibs.

Sorry - just realised this is a resurrected thread someone has bumped.

Idontthinkicandothisanymore · 10/02/2026 14:30

The side effects I had were just feeling really cold for the first month. I felt a bit sick sometimes so changed what I ate to things that wouldn’t bloat. No pizza or pasta for ages.

I lost 4 stone and did t suffer with it.
