Scared to start … Mounjaro fears?

mefornow · 12/02/2025 13:24

Hi,

Ive looked so many times at Mounjaro and want to start injections as I’ve failed with any other weight loss (slimfast, weight watchers, slimming world, oviva, over the counter weight loss supplements) but I’m scared to try Mounjaro for fear of side effects. Can anyone reassure me so I can take the plunge?
my weight has gradually gone up and up until I now sit at 16stones (5ft6) and appalled with myself but can’t seem to stop getting fatter!

help

I'm hoping to start next week and I'm scared too.
I've put an order in and hopefully it will be delivered at the weekend. My plan is to take the first dose on Tuesday morning (I'm on holiday for a week from Tuesday 4th March and don't want to take the medication with me so I think starting on a Tuesday will work to minimise disruption).
I guess I'm scared about side effects and about starting yo take a drug that I may be stuck taking for the rest of my life, but really, I think I'm scared that it might not work and I'm desperate for change. I'm 5ft 8in and hover around 110kg (& that inability to stick to metric or imperial should tell you that I went to primary school in the 70's 😂)

I'm hoping to start on Tuesday too, I get paid friday so will order then....its all very nerve wracking isn't it. I am sure we will all be fine and have each other to offer support

Housewife2010 · 12/02/2025 20:51

Please join us all on the February 2025 thread. I took my second injection today. I feel completely fine. As others have said, drink lots of water and avoid rich meals until you can see how you will react. All my food cravings have gone so I am concentrating on eating healthier food.
I've put the video that helped me with the injection on the February thread today. It didn't hurt at all, but I was worried about doing it correctly or breaking the pen and wasting all that money! I used Zava which approved and delivered my order in three days.

keeponplodding7 · 12/02/2025 21:05

I’ve been hugely worried about the whole thing too. To the point I took my first jab on the 20th of Jan - which was fine - but then didn’t take another one until today. I’ll take one more from this pen next Tuesday and then will have to throw the pen away as it will have been opened more then 30 days. But this is it now I’m on it and have pulled myself together. Feeling ok tonight - ate my dinner but do feel full tonight !

mefornow · 12/02/2025 21:17

Can I ask as a few of the sites I’ve seen are talking about vitamins etc and trying to get you to add them to your order… is everyone taking multi vitamins too? And which ones? Or is this just a sales ploy to get you to spend more?

It's a sales ploy.

Cantbesure · 12/02/2025 21:34

Good luck OP. I've got some hair and nail gummies I take as I got them for Christmas. And some days I'll have a protein shake. Otherwise I don't take any supplements or vitamins. My biggest side effect has been constipation.

WompWompBoom · 12/02/2025 21:49

I was the same. Read all about the side effects (and I already have gallstones!) and decided not too. But then looked at the fact I wasn't losing weight etc and went for it. I started just before Xmas. I've stayed on the 2.5mg pen and have steadily lost about 1lb per week after the initial whoosh I had. I'm now on my 9th week, 16.5lb down and the only side effects I had was a bit of tiredness and constipation.
I've found the key to this is getting protein in you. I have a protein yoghurt for breakfast and since I've been doing that the constipation has eased up and the weight loss has maintained a steady pace.

@keeponplodding7 I think some countries say you can keep it in the fridge and use it longer than 30 days. I've definitely had one longer than that and used it later on with no ill effects.

ForeverSkys · 13/02/2025 00:29

I've been on MJ since boxing day last year and only side effects were mild constipation and had a funny pain in my stomach but soon went. I'm now on 7.5mg so see how that goes. But so far so good

One question I am hoping someone can answer.. what happens if you miss a couple of weeks of injection? I am going on holiday in April and really don't want to take the medication half way across the world with me

I've taken mine on holiday with me. It's not a problem.

If you stop taking it for a couple of weeks, you should seek advice from your pharmacist about which dose to restart on.

MissPobjoysPonies · 13/02/2025 11:10

I’ve had some headaches - but as a migraine sufferer they haven’t been that bad - just make sure you are hydrated.

ive had some constipation - prunes are good

indigestion - acid heartburn: yup, but then if I had eaten fatty food I’d have had that and by being fat Ive had that.

a little nausea, bit out of 7 weeks this has been about two weeks in total of the multiple - the majority of which is constipation!

good luck. I was apprehensive too

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 13/02/2025 11:13

Also - for those who are anxious about side effects: I've had very few. I've lost nearly 7st now, and had a bit of acid reflux and some very occasional nausea. I take cyclizine tablets for it if required. But it's very rarely that I feel I need the cyclizine.

My BMI is down from 50 to 32. So I'm still obese, but much, much better.

I feel fitter, slimmer and younger.

I'm the same as you OP, I really need to do it but scared to take the plunge! But I need to..

One question I am hoping someone can answer.. what happens if you miss a couple of weeks of injection? I am going on holiday in April and really don't want to take the medication half way across the world with me.

I don't mind if I put weight back on during that period, what I mean is, does stopping the medicine cause any horrendous side effects/going to make me seriously ill?

I keep saying 'oh I shall wait until that holiday is over' but then I just know I will find another excuse. I need to get on with it now.

You can take a week's break and continue on the same dose as long as it's no longer than 14 days between injections. Or you can take your pen with you. Or if it's longer than 2 weeks between injections you can start again at the lowest dose, see how you tolerate it and titrate yourself back up again.

Not sure what the manufacturers say about this, but Im with Chequp and they let you go four weeks before you have to go back to the lower dose. I just took mine on holiday with me last June.

SeaBaseAlpha · 13/02/2025 11:26

@Glorybox2025 Thanks!

I think my main reason for not taking the pen with me is I keep seeing people mention it being stored in the fridge, so assumed that wasn't possible to take it with me.. or am I misunderstanding?

SilenceInside · 13/02/2025 11:42

@SeaBaseAlpha the unused pens must be stored in the fridge, in order to last potentially many months until their expiry date. Used pens, after you have done the first dose, can be stored at room temperature or in the fridge, doesn't matter which - but must be disposed of within 30 days regardless.

If stored outside of the fridge, the used pen must be kept under 30 degrees Celsius. So that's only an issue if you are going somewhere very hot. Some people get a cooling case like the FRIO wallet in those circumstances, to keep it under 30 degrees C.

TheLionandAlbert · 13/02/2025 12:17

It will work! It’s fantastic and every day there are more reports of other health benefits it offers.

I’ve not had any side effects, even at higher doses.

My BMI today is 21.9, and I started at 29.4. I’ve gone from 188 pounds to 140. 48 pounds. It’s been so easy.

thesugarbumfairy · 13/02/2025 13:07

well done OP for taking the plunge. Its been a life changer for me. I've lost just over 4st since June - other folk lose faster but for me just losing anything is amazing let alone that much. I feel so much better, and my joint pain has eased significantly. I have another 2 to go and I don't feel like its this insurmountable hurdle - I can do it - even if it takes till Christmas!
I haven't really had side effects although recently I feel more queasy after taking it so I'm considering taking the dose down a bit as it is still working. (I'm on 125mg now)
The only supplements I take are collagen (which I took anyway) and biotin for my hair.

mefornow · 13/02/2025 14:58

Aaah.. order approved. It’s real now then. I haven’t even told my DH!

I never told my DH until the morning I planned to inject (about a week after it arrived as it took me that long to build up the courage to inject!). I hid it in the fridge door behind some jars.

He was initially very worried, as all he had seen were news reports about people ending up in hospital, but once I explained to him how concerned I was and how my obesity was impacting my health and how I had thoroughly researched, he was very supportive (but he still wouldn't do the first injection for me!)

TriangleLight · 14/02/2025 22:39

Ordered!!

GildedRage · 14/02/2025 22:55

Similar boat, approved on Wednesday, ordered and awaiting delivery. I’ve not told dh.
Scared spitless as my BMI is 32 and I have lost weight in the past by dieting and exercise BUT I’m older and the exercise is harder to sustain :(

TriangleLight · 14/02/2025 23:31

I feel a bit of guilt as my DP/boyfriend is overweight, even more than I am, and would like to do it but says he can’t afford it. But I’ve resolved to try it to put my own health first

shrinkingthiswinter · 15/02/2025 00:37

I’ve traveled with mine loads. You just take it in hand luggage with Dr letter/prescription. I’ve never even been asked about it at security, not in any country.

I have a little cool bag and some mini cool packs (100ml) for it. If no fridge in room, hotel or hostels have always had a routine for storing fridge meds. Fridge meds are common. I set an alarm to remind me to collect it before leaving.
