MoonDustInYourHair · 10/02/2025 19:27

I am taking Mounjaro...

I dont eat alot ( I KNOW i should- just lost my mojo a bit)

Funnily though I have not lost alot of weight despite eating way less than <1000kcals some days

Why is that???

I know that I need to do better I have just been feeling a bit uninspired but I have got a nice mealplan sorted now.

I just wondered WHY? X

How much have you lost and how long have you been taking it?

purplebrat · 10/02/2025 20:16

If you are eating in a true calorie deficit you should lose weight. This isn't anything to do with Mounjaro, it's basic science.

Have you been keeping a true record of your intake?

MoonDustInYourHair · 10/02/2025 20:24

Intermittently since October but following properley since January lost 3lbs

Genuinely I barely eat.

Party just was not feeling much like eating but I know this isnt the right thing and I will correct this.

I track my Kcals and only once did I go over 1000kcal a day.

I just assume metabolisim kicks in but then I thought about VLCD's where its 600kcals a day etc and people loose.

I have some nice meals planned.

Just curious x

How much do you weigh and what strength are you on?
when you say you’ve been on it intermittently, in what way?
I have jabbed every Saturday since the end of October and have lost just over 3 stone but had a starting weight of 16st 0 - the weight came off quickly but I had days where i was struggling to hit 1000 calories in the beginning.
For the last 4 or so weeks the loss has been a lot slower and steadier, a pound or two a week at the most which is to be expected as I weigh less now and my appetite has settled so I’m able to eat a bit better now.
Your weight loss will slow the less you have to lose but I’d recommend tracking and eating enough to lose weight.

InfoSecInTheCity · 10/02/2025 20:31

Can you provide a bit more detail.

  • Your weight, height, age and activity level
  • do you drink plenty of water?
  • what does a typical day of food look like?
  • do you weigh and measure your food?
  • do you do any exercise?
  • have you had any tests for metabolic or hormonal issues - PCOS, thyroid, diabetes etc?
BestDIL · 10/02/2025 20:37

It sounds like you are not eating enough and your body is in famine mode. Try eating a little more of the good stuff and make sure you're drinking plenty of water.

unsync · 10/02/2025 20:48

You're not eating enough.

FeelinTwentySixPointTwo · 10/02/2025 20:53

Are you doing any exercise? If you're not losing any weight you will be still eating as many calories as you're expending.

And how much weight are you trying to lose?

fearfulexchange · 10/02/2025 21:00

I'm the same. Been on 2.5mg since early December and lost 10lbs.
I barely hit 1000 cals a day, I thought the weight would just drop off. I am 3-4 stone over weight which isn't massive.
My life is very stationery though so I'm heading back to the gym next and am interested to see what happens.

lapuf · 10/02/2025 21:15

If you read the Why We Eat Too Much book (Dr Andrew Jenkinson), chapter one explains really clearly why our bodies will fight us calorie counting and hold onto weight. It's all to do with leptin and insulin. When we cut out inflammatory foods (wheat, sugar, UPFs, veg oil), our hormones are able to recognise that our fat stores are too great and regulate them! The book explains it a lot better than me, obviously Blush

Shouldn’t you be on 7.5 by now? I know a lot of folks do, but the starter dose isn’t really for weight loss.

TheChosenTwo · 10/02/2025 21:25

@Gettingslimmer the only thing I could think of is they are struggling with side effects if struggling to get the calories in so don’t want to move up in case it’s even harder to eat anything. Otherwise I don’t know why you wouldn’t move up either.
i found 2.5mg great for a couple of weeks but definitely felt ready to move on.

LivingLaVidaBabyShower · 10/02/2025 21:30

I lost slowly like 2-3 lbs some months. I was expecting 7-14lbs pm especially at the start....

I felt like it was going NO WHERE at points.

Its been a year im down 30kg.
Focus on high nutrition foods and whole foods id also up your total intake and get some steps and water in

fearfulexchange · 11/02/2025 05:54

@Gettingslimmer I was told that if I'm not craving or overeating on 2.5mg to stay on it.

You have been given the wrong information. 2.5mg is not a proper dose, it's just the warm up for the first proper dose of 5mg, then you go to 7.5mg which is the warm up dose for 10mg, then 12.5mg which is the warm up dose for 15mg.

3wDavid · 11/02/2025 10:16

on the “non-weightloss” dose of 2.5 I lost 2 stone and stayed on it for 2 months.

If you feel suppression, and you do lose weight, there is no need to rush up the doses. If you go up too quickly you have nowhere to go from there. So if you have a lot to lose, slow and steady wins the race.

You are definitely eating too little though.

Without knowing your height and weight it’s hard to determine how many calories you should be on, but at the very minimum, you should aim to NOT be under 1000 cal per day.

I’d say try the following:

  1. make a conscious effort to hit 1000 calories every day;
  2. drink at least 2 litres of water (not coffee, tea, juice - water) every day;
  3. prioritize protein out of the food groups - make sure you have protein rich foods in your diet (yogurt, meat, seafood, pulses) - aim for 1 g of protein per 1 kg of body weight (i.e. if you’re 100 kg, aim for 100 grams).
  4. get a fibre supplement to make sure you’re regular

Do that consistently for 1 week - see how that feels and looks on the scales, before deciding if you need to move up a dose.

This is not quite right.

The poster isn’t eating too little, as she clearly eats more than 1000 averaged over a week.

amd if she’s not losing weight she should move up. Going with the guidelines is not “rushing”, it is simply following the tried and tested dosing guidelines.

your diet advice is right, but the issue is clearly the poster is not averaging a 1000 a day, unless they are very short in height and completely sedentary ie bed or wheelchair bound. Otherwise it is obvious they are underestimating their cals.

They are eating enough to lose less than half a pound a week, so whatever their tdee is , they are under eating by likely less than 200 a day, as most women’s tdee is at least 2000 even when sedantry (not inc wheelchair /bed bound, but someone who can walk around their hours etc) then it is likely the poster eats an average of 1800 a day.

none of us are medical marvels. No able bodied person is eating less than 1000 a dat and not losing weight, the only explanation is they eat and drink over the course of a week much more than they think

3wDavid · 11/02/2025 10:43

@Gettingslimmer I have always operated under the assumption that I will move up a dose once the current dose I am on is “exhausted” - meaning that I do not lose any weight on it at all anymore. If you lose less than you would personally like, you are technically still losing, so the dose is technically still working for you.

OP is saying she’s lost 3 lbs since January. it’s 10th of February. That’s on the slower side but not nothing.

However, I totally agree with you - if the OP is not tracking calories and is guesstimating calorie intake, that’s a sure way to underestimate how much you’re consuming. You could guesstimate if you have consistently tracked for a while and have a pretty good understanding of how much you consume each day, but even that is a slippery slope sometimes.

IrisPallida · 11/02/2025 10:45

First question that needs to be answered - did you actually buy your Mounjaro from a proper licensed pharmacy?

You say you were taking it intermittently since October... That suggests that you were not using a proper prescribed pen in the prescribed fashion.

Second question - can you provide the stats asked for upthread?

I really hope she meant “intermittently” about tracking her weight loss as in weighing , and not about taking the MJ.

Agree, no need to move up if it is working strongly, just I think for that poster it isn’t.

and there is no way rheir cal estimation is correct. I see it a lot on here, where folks swear blind they weigh and track everything and don’t lose on a very low number. But thr reality is it is humanly impossible unless they are completely sendentary and very small.

as such, over the course of a week, the poster is consuming, either in food or drink, much more than they think. Could be portion size, drinks, grazing, etc, but it does need to be taken over a full week then averaged.

If you eat less calories than you need, you will loose weight. It's basic science.

So .. are you drinking the calories (milk in tea? Sugar in coffee? Coke/pepsi? Juice? Protein shakes?) are you measuring everything you eat correctly???

Calories add up VERY quickly.

mjcosy · 11/02/2025 13:23

Same issue for me. I haven't lost even 1 lb since starting the 2.5mg three weeks ago. I am hoping it will go better once I up to 5mg. I eat healthy and eat around 1000 calories (have always done) so I am wondering if there is something else wrong. All the threads with amazing weight loss journeys are making it even harder to stay on Mounjaro!

Honestly it is not possible to eat 1000 cals a day and maintain an obese weight. Never mind become obese in the first place.

im sorry but if you wish to lose weight, you need to revisit your calorie intake as you’re hugely underestimating.
